Mermaids has apparently put lots of confidential data online including private emails, personal data and emails demonstrating the pressure they have put on the Tavistock.
Andrew Gilligan article - share token:

Empress (good username, btw) that is so sad and also so infuriating. I am straight but I also now feel uncomfortable and a little threatened by the rainbow as well, though I expect far less than you do. For me it is the banner under which men who hate women march.

Melroses · 18/06/2019 22:58

I used to love rainbows - had a series of postcards - also rainbow shoe laces c .……...1983?

Now? nada. Same for fecking unicorns

LizzieSiddal · 18/06/2019 23:11

The bloody rainbow is everywhere.

The only good thing is that by next year, it will be so “last year”, everyone will be fed up with it and people won’t want to be seen anywhere near it.

FannyCann · 18/06/2019 23:22

Yes indeed. A senior colleague has a rainbow lanyard. I have never heard her speak of anything relating to LGBT. I suspect she just thinks it's pretty. But I wouldn't dare ask and mind my speech just incase.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 19/06/2019 00:28

MrsJamin There are so many mistakes on that one page advert I don't know where to begin - I just sincerely hope no one paid her for training.

Exactly. But then there’s these, which as Posie says are Perfect for Pride.

Picture didn’t load.

To be honest I am swerving anything with a rainbow on it.

I mentioned recently that I was able to veto my firm's implementation of a rainbow logo, on the grounds it was a political and empty gesture.
(We support all-comers, with no need to make a song and dance about it)

However I have two friends - one gay and one lesbian who are both posting pics of their company's "inclusiveness" gestures and I feel sad more than anything, because the lesbian one is promoting the juggernaut that is trying to eliminate here and frankly, I thought better of the gay one.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 19/06/2019 09:00

I would much prefer an alternative LGB Pride. you know, the ones that actually affect sexuality.

Ereshkigal · 19/06/2019 10:28

Those Pride stickers are brilliant Empress. How can anyone argue with a clear statement about gay and lesbian identity. Hope to see them round and about.

ZebrasAreBras · 19/06/2019 10:40

Agree about the rainbows, unicorns and glitter - they make me cringe now. Always been a staunch supporter of the LGB rights, celebrated when gay marriage came in - but now it's been taken over by TRAs, women-haters, kink, fetishists and furries.

MrsDumpty · 19/06/2019 11:32

I have actually been wondering how long it will be until F (for Furries) is added to the LGBTQ+ line-up ... not to mention the P

It has clearly been taken over by exhibitionists who are relishing the opportunity to flaunt their bedroom predilections in public. I have no problem with anything that is consensual - in private. I don't need to see it in my local supermarket ffs.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/06/2019 11:44

It sounds like they sent out an email to donors with all of the addresses in Cc rather than Bcc

Bloody hell. That's... basic.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 19/06/2019 14:42

That GIDS statement sounds like they are backing away from mermaids as fast as they can!

(about bloody time)

FannyCann · 19/06/2019 14:55

"To be clear, this breach has nothing to do with the Gender Identity Development Service. We have never shared patient information with Mermaids."

They have discussed individual referrals with reference to the waiting list though.

"I can confirm that a member from the intake team will call...,as soon as possible to advise where....is on the waiting list"

I am not aware of charities such as cancer charities or osteoporosis charities for instance discussing the state of the waiting list and intervening on behalf of individual patients to bump them up the waiting list.

All kinds of wrong.

Yes. For example, the NAS couldn’t interact with CAMHS or our GP and ask where our daughter was on the very long waiting list for autism assessment. I’d be horrified if they could.

“Gender Identity Disorders in infancy, childhood and adolescence are complex and have varied causes: in the majority of cases the eventual outcome will be homosexuality or bisexuality, but often there will be a heterosexual outcome as some gender issues can be caused by a bereavement, a dysfunctional family life, or (rarely) by abuse. Only a small proportion of cases will result in a transsexual outcome. Whatever the cause, a child with a gender identity problem is very often deeply unhappy, and their family will suffer as a result. It is essential that sympathetic and non-judgmental help be sought in order to help the child or adolescent, and their family.”

God can you imagine if this was still their approach? They'd have so much more support from the women here. That's really sad to read. What the hell went wrong?

boatyardblues · 19/06/2019 17:15

I agree. That earlier statement is balanced, considered and compassionate.

Mermaids could go back to that though with a change of leadership.

Needmoresleep · 19/06/2019 18:12

What the hell went wrong?

Susie Green and her need to justify her actions.

A parents support charity should have been first and foremost protecting their children, not promoting American quackery and providing justification to middleaged AGPs.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/06/2019 18:51

And still companies fail over themselves to cost up to them.

Further back (page 6) there was discussion about Mermaids only having three Trustees. I've just looked them up on the Charity Commission's website and I can see four Trustees: beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-details/?regId=1160575&subId=0:

Has another one been added recently?

Also, this outfit is so flakey and unprofessional, would you believe they have a really embarrassing spelling error in their registered Charitable Objects? There, rather than their!

Spelling and grammar errors? That’s all but a capital offence on MN. The horror! Shock
