'I’m writing to you as a constituent, and a trans person, to ask you to support my right to be recognised equally in Scotland.
The Gender Recognition Act is the law that allows trans people to amend our birth certificates, and have legal recognition of who we are and how we live.
The Equal Recognition campaign calls for reform of the Gender Recognition Act in three ways:
Remove the psychiatric diagnosis and other intrusive evidence requirements and move to a system of self-declaration
Reduce the age at which people can get legal recognition of their gender to 16, or under 16 with parental consent
Provide legal recognition for non-binary people who do not identify as male or female
These reforms would bring Scotland’s law in-line with international best practice, and ensure that I have an equal right to be recognised.
That’s why I am asking you to urgently support the Equal Recognition campaign and support my right to be who I am.
