A MODEST PROPOSAL

For preventing the darker skinned people in the land from experiencing racism, preventing racial tensions and preventing the resulting burden on society and creating great benefits to the publick.

by Whodathunkit

It is a melancholy object to those, who walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the streets and houses crowded with mothers of swarthy appearance, followed by three, four, or six children, all displaying similar epidermal colouration, and causing great offence to all.

I think it is agreed by all parties, that this prodigious number of children of darker hued skin is in the present deplorable state of the kingdom, a very great additional grievance; and therefore whoever could find out a fair, cheap and easy method of helping these children to become useful members of the common-wealth, would deserve so well of the publick, as to have his statue set up for a preserver of the nation.

As to my own part, having turned my thoughts for many years, upon this important subject, and maturely weighed the several schemes of our projectors, I have reached an important conclusion.

For too long darker skinned persons have had to struggle and fight agains oppression in a racist society, of this there is no doubt.

Many darker skinned people dream of being able to live in a wonderful world in which they share all the entitlements and privileges that heir fairer skinned neighbours take for granted.

Various products, many prohibitively expensive or illegal and thus beyond the acquisition of the general public, do possess the most wonderful effect of transforming the skin of our swarthy brothers and sisters into a most charming and agreeable pinkish shade.

There are, as always, many nay sayers who complain in the most vigorous terms that these products may generate the most harmful diseases and dangers in those who make use of them, however any educated person must of course balance these harms in relation to the undoubted benefits to society of purging this most odious problem of racism from our dear land.

What better solution to this urgent crisis of inequality than to make these wondrous skin lightening products available on the NHS to those persons whose natural coloration places them at a disadvantage in all aspects of their life?

Some commentators will no doubt opine that the wish to lighten one’s skin is indicative of some underlying problem of the mind, a problem they term “internalised racism” but this ridiculous claim may reasonably be challenged by speaking to any one of thousands of people, currently undergoing a journey of “racial transition” who will tell it how it is and “speak their truth” about their brave and stunning journey of transformation.

I profess, in the sincerity of my heart, that I have not the least personal interest in endeavouring to promote this necessary work, having no other motive than the publick good of my country, by advancing the progression of our citizens, creating equality and benefitting our land for the good of all.

I think, unless people know the Swift that this was adapted from (and are good at reading satire) this might misfire on Twitter etc. I personally think it is very clever indeed and something well worth discussing - I am just not quite sure that the world is up to Swiftian satire nowadays.

hoodathunkit · 12/06/2019 12:14

thanks Cismyfatarse

It did seem like a bit of a risk but, as there are clever readers here, presumably familiar with satire, I thought it was a risk worth taking

I hoped that the inclusion of videos would make my position clear in the event of doubt

I got the reference. And yes, excellent work.

But it's getting ever harder to tell the difference between satire & someone being serious Hmm

RiversDisguise · 12/06/2019 12:28

Brava! Really nicely done. You make a very important point in a very clever manner.

Your solution would lead to certain spontaneous internal combustion of those who hate paying for people being treated on the NHS but also want to rid Britain of "dark-skinned" people... the inner conflict would kill them stone dead. Another win. Grin

Btw-
Typos: para4 agains[t], para5 [t]heir

Thanks RiversDisguise

Thanks also for pointing out the typos

skin whitening creams
"ethnic cleaning"
tantric sex cults / Neo-Reichian genital massage
toilet cleaning advertisements

I'll do it as soon as I can :)

I’m sorry but I don’t actually get it. Can someone please explain?

You're not the only one, BogglesGoggles.

Swift's original essay A Modest Proposal was a satirical piece advocating that a solution to starvation in Ireland was for the poor to sell their children to the rich as food.

Of course Swift was not really suggesting that cannibalism was a way forward. His essay highlighted the appalling treatment of the poor and served as a catalyst for change.

In my modest reworking I propose that skin whitening creams, dangerous oppressive products, would be available on the NHS.

I am not advocating that this actually happens, simply using satire to highlight the similarities of such an outrageous idea with current policies re the transgender agenda, especially in relation to FtT

Also I believe we should be making greater use of satire as a way of exploring the tidal wave of insanity that is engulfing the world

that's it from me for now :)

It's a satirical take on Jonothan Swift's already satirical essay [http://www.online-literature.com/swift/947/ "A Modest Proposal]] where he suggested solving the crisis of poverty in Ireland by getting poor people to sell their children to rich people as food.

Comparing eating the babies of poor Irish families, to skin lightening creams?

I agree skin bleaching is awful though.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 12/06/2019 12:54

The idea of "solving" oppression by implementing inhumane and ridiculous social change/ policy which ignores the cause of the oppression whilst benefiting the oppressors, is a very apt satirical comparison in deed.

Every time I see RiversDisguise posts I start humming the song 😂 Doing it right now...

But it's getting ever harder to tell the difference between satire & someone being serious

I just wanted to comment on this important point

The effect of astroturfing of all manner of causes including; minority rights, human rights, feminism, ecological / environmental movements, freedom of religious beliefs, and various other movements, when such movements are promoted to their extremes, is that the real world becomes a hyperreal, theatrical, satirical representation of itself.

That's why it feels like the world is going mad.

OP posts:
SomeDyke · 12/06/2019 18:42

is that the real world becomes a hyperreal, theatrical, satirical representation of itself.
Which links to, rather than thinking and discussing, and disagreeing and hopefully finding a consensus, instead we have no debate nonsense, and a large number of actors who just read from a script. That is where 'no debate' actually takes us, and the only thing that anyone is protected from is hurting their brain because of excessive thinking. From daily papers to academia, we are being told again and again, that thinking, and perhaps coming up with different opinions is dangerous or wrong, and instead we just need to read the script, repeat the script, photocopy the script and pass it on...........

hoodathunkit · 12/06/2019 18:56

The things is I think we all personally and as groups can easily fall into echo chambers, confirmation bias and binary thinking where everything is reduced to right and wrong, raw and cooked, clean and dirty, good and evil etc. rather than staying with the overwhelmingly confusing and complex experience that is reality.

Satire is an effective way of facilitating thinking when it is otherwise hard to think.

Given what is happening in the post truth world I would encourage activists against the abuses of the vulnerable to consider satire as one of the most important weapons in out battle.

One of my favourite satirical films is here

Just sharing in case it inspires others to get creative with their thinking and expression

Also, for much of the time, the "trans" depiction of a "woman" can be useful considered as a satirical depiction using the same methods that are used in satire, with particular reference to exaggeration, burlesque and parody.

Just sharing some thoughts

This is a brilliant example of satire that illustrates the insanity of current self-ID narratives
