Traffic to the FWR board

Hi @MNHQ

Please could you let us know the numbers of visitors to this board since the last published figure? (June 2018)

Thank you! Smile

Hang on - I was talking with a friend and think I might have led people astray.

That figure (246,000 visits during June 2019) is only people who entered MN via FWR.

People like me (who likes to check AIBU first Blush) or my friend (enters via “Active”) won’t be included (although we will in the overall MN figure - 18,000,000 visits in June).

But yes - people who click on FWR first has increased 39%.

^when comparing June 2018 against June 2019.

GirlDownUnder · 25/07/2019 06:21

Woohoo we can stop worrying about monitors too cos apparently the visitor stats just prove how insignificant FWR is.

From the stats, we see quite clearly the reputation and corruption of its feminism board is a turn off.... the feminism board is attracting a niche of bigots, and has become the speakeasy of transphobia, homophobia and endorsed bigotry.
Bravo @Justine_Roberts

Of course Joss includes their own twitter stats and not to be out done RMcK has to chime in and one million up Joss

So if we’re not worth bothering with can the special FWR rules be relaxed now?

GirlDownUnder · 25/07/2019 06:22

Ha opps sorry 2B your post wasn't there when I started writing mine. Brew

Wizbetisanizbet · 25/07/2019 07:08

So insignificant that they were moved to comment on it. 🤔

Awesome news about the increase in traffic. Just shows you how important this board is. Onwards and upwards my friends.

HandsOffMyRights · 25/07/2019 07:38

Excellent news.

Nice try, Joss, but a quarter of a million is hardly "niche" Hmm.

Wow! Do we think all those women just woke up one day and decided not to be kind to MRAs, or could there actually be a major violation to our rights and freedoms?

If we're so insignificant then why worry?

This growth will be reflected IRL too. Try as they may, they can't silence us.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/07/2019 08:21

I think it’s hard to reliably infer much from those numbers other than for many people FWR is the reason they use MN (because that’s how they enter the site) and that is true for many more people this year than than last year (and it was true for plenty last year!)

I probably won’t be included in those numbers for example because I normally enter the site via threads I’m on, but FWR is pretty much the only board I use. So I think it doesn’t give much of a reliable guide to traffic to this board (which is probably why MNHQ felt ok about releasing it, as I’m guessing that this is sensitive commercial data)

But it does give some indication of why the national conversation is changing, the part we play in that and why the monitors feel that they can’t leave us alone

And I think we saw very clearly how heavily used this board is when MNHQ had a thread some months ago asking why people use MN and the majority of answers cited FWR

KTara · 25/07/2019 08:24

But the drop in overall entrances to MN is huge, unless I am misreading it.

I do not know how much the chat boards are part of the entrances and how much people use other parts of the site. But overall, I find the tone of the boards so much more combative and nasty than before. Some of it is just astounding when people are asking for advice or even in discussion. I used to think it was a good place for support whereas now I tend to find it a damaging experience to read some of the stuff which people post.

I tend to agree that FWR is an important part of the debate on self-ID and mobilising action and debate and this is very important. But the overall tone of the boards is one I feel increasingly at odds with. I am one of the people making fewer ‘entrances’. I increasingly feel it is not really good for me to use the board and I have been a member for about eight years now.

So while it is great that the traffic to FWR is up, the diminishing use of the site overall is not. That is a loss for women because something is driving traffic down. One would need to see stats over a longer period and in more detail to know what was going on.

cardyop · 25/07/2019 08:32

Do those stats include traffic on the apps?

2BthatUnnoticed · 25/07/2019 08:56

Ktara yes I once posted on AIBU and got some very cutting responses - some one even said I was a troll! I only lurk there now, worried about it happening again.

On FWR, people might be terse sometimes, but overall I find it nicer. This is one of the few places we can talk about safeguarding so I’m grateful for that Smile

2BthatUnnoticed · 25/07/2019 08:57

I think MN lost a lot of users after that last data beach.

Yeahnahyeah · 25/07/2019 09:17

A proud radicalised on Mumsnet user here. 💪. About a year ago.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/07/2019 09:18

Yes, I find it much nicer here than elsewhere on the site

People who’ve been here for years will inevitably have seen a huge change and not everyone’s going to like it

Before 2018 this was a much smaller community than it is now (15,000 site entrances in June 2017)

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 09:44

It’s so creepy how obsessed with MN Joss & McKinnon are, especially since they’re so keen to insist it’s irrelevant and not popular. I wonder why two male born transwomen are so keen to disparage a predominantly women’s forum, while being so quiet about the many other platforms that are so toxic and sexist- including both Facebook and Twitter. They seem to have zero issue with the abuse millions of women encounter on those platforms. I just wonder why they’re like this, incessantly monitoring us... it’s a mystery

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/07/2019 09:52

It’s negging

You’ve just got to treat it the same as you’d treat any MRA type behaviour. Doesn’t matter what the male is wearing when they’re being a sexist twerp

NotTerfNorCis · 25/07/2019 14:25

Joss seems very perturbed by the Yaniv thing.

Joss, if you're monitoring (and I'm sure you are):

  1. Yaniv proves what feminists have been saying - that self id will give male predators access to female spaces.

  2. More importantly, this case shows how powerful trans ideology is , and how it protects predators while silencing those who speak out, like Meghan Murphy.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/07/2019 15:16

Joss you say Meghan should have been banned anyway, but her exposure of Yaniv's predatory behaviour 'brought it to the fore'? So exposing a predator is worse than being a predator? Yaniv is still on Twitter while feminists are being banned- shows the power balance right there.

Also, feminists aren't saying that trans people are responsible for Yaniv. We're saying that allowing men to identify as women will cause problems, and Yaniv is a prime example of those problems. It's a shame for the many innocent transwomen out there that people like Yaniv exist. We can't lose sight of the fact that transwomen are male, and sometimes that can be a problem.

LangCleg · 25/07/2019 15:55

I fondly remember the days of 2D + L = 69.

Come back to us, Joss! Stop sniping from the sidelines!

terryleather · 25/07/2019 16:23

Come back to us, Joss!

Maybe you could tempt Joss to return with the offer of a bowl of WBH, Lang...

GirlDownUnder · 25/07/2019 16:27

I fondly remember the days of 2D + L = 69.

That was a very enjoyable maths lesson Grin

LangCleg · 25/07/2019 16:38

I bet Joss loves WBH, unlike you load of old crones.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/07/2019 16:57

Joss is insisting that transwomen are much more like women than men.

If that were true, Joss, we probably wouldn't have this situation with Yaniv, would we?

If transwomen are just like women, how do you account for the high numbers of people in prison for serious offences who are identifying as transwomen? Women don't tend to commit the serious, violent, sexual crimes... that's a male thing.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/07/2019 17:29

Joss, your argument makes no sense. It's just a fact that women commit far less serious crime than men. So the high numbers of transwomen locked up for serious crime reflect a male offending pattern, not a female one.

As for saying that a feminist who rejects gender ideology is not a feminist - firstly, who are you to decide? And secondly, since feminists invented the concept of gender to mean restrictive stereotypes based on biological sex, then by definition all feminists are gender critical.

Shinsplints · 25/07/2019 17:38

I used to go straight to AIBU but rarely have the inclination these days, in the last 12-18 months it's all about FWR for me. By the time I've finished checking twitter, checking FWR & Posie's Facebook feed I am well past my bedtime!!

HandsOffMyRights · 25/07/2019 18:31

I joined MN 14 years ago while I was pregnant. I wanted to be around other pregnant women

Now, I want to be part of the single most important threat to my rights. I want to be around women who feel as I do about this circus.

And if I want to talk with other women about issues that affect me, then I will do just that.

I wouldn't troll a platform called 'Transnet' and go on Twitter gaslighting, aghast at the audacity that transgender people might discuss relevant issues on a forum predominantly frequented by people of a similar mindset.

So in my best Vicky Pollard voice (remember Matt, when you used to take the piss?) "Screw you" to those who try to close women down.
