There's a load of men (actual men, identifying as male) telling Alison off on that twitter thread. The world is so full of men (actual men, identifying as male) who want to tell women what to do and how to think - nothing has opened my eyes to this more than the transgender movement.

99% of the time after TRAs tell omeone to go educate themselves, they do so and come back solid GC. Its an awful tactic really if they are trying to win public opinion, this attacking everyone and..educate yourself when they know fine well that sunlight is very bad for the things tey campaign for

I'm confused... is she for or against the trans movement? I don't know any trans people, so would be grateful if someone could explain what she's getting at.

If she rejects CIS does that mean she does not go along with the notion of gender being assigned at birth? Or is she saying that gender is a biological fact, but you don't have to conform to gender stereotypes?

She was a bloody strong LGBT ally for years....but got shafted last year iirc for saying she did not like the cis label. Which is her right. I don't care personally about cis as a term but many many do. As is their right.
So I would guess she is like many on here - she is not anti trans, she is anti TRAs taking away her right to define herself as a woman.

Oh, this is amazing news! It was so sad when she backed down before, but the fact she is back is bloody brilliant!

From what I've heard, some people are saying that gender details should not be put on birth certificates. Seems crazy and confusing to me.

Many LGBs don’t like the term cis either.

Gender is all about misogynist sex-role-stereotypes & ‘cis’ implies that women accept the box we’re pushed into. India Willoughby was shocked that Mumsnetters didn’t just talk about pushchairs & lipstick, because that’s what would occupy cis (stereotypical) mothers.

You’re conflating sex and gender. Gender cannot be observed at birth - that’s sex. Gender isn’t on birth certificates - that’s sex. Biological.

Gender is a societal construct - made up. Not biological fact.

Let’s just make it simple.

Let’s just use sex as a description. With the very occasional variation that is intersex.
