If Mordant is taking over defence we’d better start learning Russian or Chinese.

Heck, I’m worried even the Swiss might have a crack at us.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 01/05/2019 19:41

Joanna Cherry was amazing. I just wish that her questioning reached a broader audience.

EweSurname · 01/05/2019 19:45

She’s come to the attention of sonic fox, who’s tweet was eventually deleted.

Yummummy1973 · 01/05/2019 19:51

So glad this is happening!
As a Transwoman, I think it's about time we women had some protection online from the hate!

ThePurportedDoctoress · 01/05/2019 19:57

Watching it now. I'm so grateful to Joanna Cherry, Joan McAlpine and other women politicians who get it, they give me hope!

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 01/05/2019 20:16

Ooooo that was great. I enjoyed that very much. Yet another SNP woman proves herself to give zero fucks and take zero prisoners. Why can't we get some politicians like that in England? The kind with a spine and a conscience. That waffling prat in the blazer didn't stand a chance.

I'm going to watch it again.

SaskiaRembrandt · 01/05/2019 20:57

Interesting (and surprisingly unbiased) report about the questioning of the Twitter rep. techcrunch.com/2019/05/01/twitter-grilled-on-policy-approach-that-reinforces-misogyny/

Genderfreelass · 01/05/2019 21:14

So Penny M not satisfied with doing one job badly now wants to do another badly. I'm starting to think SNP might get my vote and im totally anti indyref2. Joan has been amazing now Joanna and those in the leaked emails... SNP seem to be only party even questioning trans ideology and it's impacts.

Cuntysnark · 01/05/2019 21:33

I’ve just written (another) thank you card to Cherry. I’m feeling a bit emotional.

LizzieSiddal · 01/05/2019 21:46

Joanna you are bloody amazing.Star

I loved her question about gender (though I wish she’d said sex) balance amongst the Twitter mods.
Shall we take bets? 98% men is my guess.

Does anyone know how we can see the letters which Twitter have agreed to write, re questions not answers today?

TerfectlyImperfect · 01/05/2019 21:46

That was bloody brilliant! Thank you Joanna.

RedDogsBeg · 01/05/2019 22:01

We all know exactly why the tweets stayed up for as long as they did and why those written by women were deleted and the women suspended as does the person who was there representing twitter, she just didn't have the courage to say it. No doubt Joanna will receive a woolly, word salad letter full of meaningless soundbites trying to cover Twitter's sexism, misogyny and general contempt for women.

There is only one cohort of users Twitter listens to or cares about.

The performance of the person from Twitter was excrutiatingly embarrassing, couldn't answer a single simple question and waffled or tried to answer a question that hadn't been asked.

Good work Joanne.

RedDogsBeg · 01/05/2019 22:03

Apologies - Joanna not Joanne at the end.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 01/05/2019 22:20

Blow me down. The woman is fierce.

Voice0fReason · 01/05/2019 22:30

Outstanding work - questions that need answers

LizzieSiddal · 01/05/2019 22:34

I think the person representing Twitter was purposefully unhelpful.

They know the option is there to “look into that and write to you”, so it makes sense to say as little as possible at these committees. They can then go back to the office and get the lawyers to write the woolly, worded letters.

NeedChoos · 01/05/2019 22:36

Excellent work, Joanna!

The woman from Twitter was woefully inadequate.

I’ve just looked and Joanna’s twitter and it’s awful.

TheInebriati · 01/05/2019 22:37

Joanna Cherry is retweeting some of the ''feedback'' she is getting on twitter Envy

Sparkyduchess · 01/05/2019 22:45

Joanna Cherry was outstanding - the rep from Twitter was completely out of her depth. Hurray for women like Joanna, and Joan McAlpine.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 01/05/2019 22:47

It's rough seeing the abuse retweeted, but in the long run, it will help. This is what a woman is subjected to if she dares question misogyny on Twitter. It's clear as day. Nicely illustrating the use of 'terf' in context, also.

OvaHere · 01/05/2019 22:49

Joanna was excellent. I'm so glad this is getting the airing it deserves.

The twitter rep response was woeful, they know exactly why this is a problem with their platform, why they have done nothing about it and why sex was excluded as a protected characteristic.

I remember them launching the consultation about their hateful conduct policy, I and many other women filled it out explaining that sex must be protected and why it would become a big issue if it wasn't.

They chose to ignore this - I suspect because it clashes with gender/gender identity which they favour above sex as a company and as a platform.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 01/05/2019 22:50

Was interesting the Twitter rep said they were communicating with women's groups about the misogyny on there. Tbh unless the women's groups are GC that's unlikely to help. Any chance FPFW or similar can insist on being consulted?

LizzieSiddal · 01/05/2019 23:05

The Twitter rep did say she was meeting Caroline and the Journalist-sorry can’t remember her name. That meeting should be very interesting.

AncientLights · 01/05/2019 23:16

Seems to me the Twitter rep was a lamb sent to the slaughter by her (no doubt male) bosses. She had no idea and at times I felt sorry for her. Plus, I think she believes sex and gender are the same thing. Joanna Cherry was brilliant.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 01/05/2019 23:33

Ah that was fantastic. Thank you Joanna!

What a pathetic performance from that woman from twitter. I would ask how on earth someone of such limited capability has got a job at a level where she's the one put before MPs, but actually, I think it just further demonstrates how poor twitter are on misogyny, they obviously don't place any importance on it at all.
