The 2019 MP Campaign

Badgerthebodger · 26/04/2019 20:50

Hello all

Following on from Brighterf's thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3570011-request-for-hsc-enquiry-into-tavistock-response-from-chair

I wondered if it might be a good idea to have a concerted 2019 MP campaign? I helped co-ordinate last year when we were really just getting started with writing to MPs, and I think now might be a good time again. Crucially though, we MUST make sure we write well before they all go on their Summer holidays so I think we ought to get going now.

Would anyone like to help co-ordinate? We'll need a list of relevant ministers, departments, committees etc, as well as some brief template letters and some overall agreement on what we are asking for.

I personally think Brighterf's suggestions to push for an enquiry from the Health and Social Care Committee is a great one, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people we could write to to try and influence this. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I think an overall focus on being concerned about the treatment of children would be beneficial as it's not a topic that can really be argued with once you start to look into it on even the most superficial level.

I want the clinicians undertaking "treatment" to be held accountable for their actions. I want the NHS to think hard about pursuing a pathway which is not supported by any evidence.I want every doctor and associated HCP to think, think and think again about the child sat in front of them and what reasons they might have for wanting to live as the opposite sex. Abuse? Autism? Munchausen's by Proxy? Any of the other issues children with gender dysphoria typically present with? And I want them to think about WHY they are so keen to put this child, this individual child in front of them, onto a lifetime of medication, mutilation and misery.

So, who's with me? Who's up for channelling some anger into action? Let me know if you want to be involved in co-ordinating or just generally want to join in with the campaign.

It is a terrific idea.

No cares. It's no-one's responsibility. Everyone is looking the other way as though it is the stinkiest can of worms and they don't want to soil their hands.

I feel that there needs to be a push to build on the investigative journalism that exposed the scandal.

MPs will have to come with a better script than the one they had to answer questions on self i/d - because the consequences of turning a blind eye, or fobbing people off with wibble-wobble, are too serious.

OhHolyJesus · 26/04/2019 21:27

I'm in. I will use some time in work lunch hours next week to pull together a list of ministers, departments and email addresses.

I used to think I was good at writing letters until I read some from other MNers so I'll leave the draft letter writing to others.

Happy to make a start and post back next week.

Daughterofmabel · 26/04/2019 23:28

Im in. Wrote loads of letters over the past year or so. I suspect a bit ranty though!

TheInebriati · 26/04/2019 23:32

Count me in, I can send letters.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 27/04/2019 00:31

I'm in, happy to write letters. In the vein of protecting children I also want to see this shit out of schools. Teach the whole gender identity thing in a metaphysical sense if you must, like how we teach that some people believe in a soul, but it isn't science and shouldn't be taught as fact. Not to children of any age but especially not those young enough to believe in Santa.

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/04/2019 07:06

I think the angle of investigating how children are being treated is a really good one.
There are reports from around the world about how the affirmation strategy is woefully inadequate and the long term effects of blockers and cross-sex hormones haven't been studied.
It would look very bad if MPs kept turning a blind eye.

I have zero experience in any sort of activism / campaign so not sure how useful I would be, but definitely have my support on this.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 27/04/2019 07:43

Great idea. I will write letters. I'd like to call for more research on off label drugs and hormones being given to children.

ChattyLion · 27/04/2019 08:26

Great thread. Happy to write letters and especially if anyone has public affairs expertise, very happy to be guided on strategy.

howmanyleftfeet · 27/04/2019 08:29

Yes, very happy to help with this.

ChattyLion · 27/04/2019 08:34

Also happy to be PMed. Some of this may be better off thread.

howmanyleftfeet · 27/04/2019 09:11

Yes, happy to be PMed also.

EweSurname · 27/04/2019 09:26

Happy to write letters too

Badgerthebodger · 27/04/2019 10:28

I agree this may be better off-thread. If you’re all happy with it I can set up a Trello board? Then we can allocate jobs and share ideas. I’ll need your email address - use a throwaway one if you like. If you are happy to be involved at that level please can you PM me your email and I’ll send invites out.

I’m in. Schools as well?

Badgerthebodger · 27/04/2019 14:08

I think yes, schools as well. An overall focus on the dreadful effects on children is a good area to concentrate on as I really don’t see how anyone can argue once they look into it.

jamrollyolly · 27/04/2019 18:03

I'm in to help, not sure how but I'll do what I can. I've pmd you.

GeneticTest · 27/04/2019 19:15

Remember- MPs don’t like generic emails. Make it specific. Make it personal to you. Ask questions.
Ask to be referred to the relevant minister.
Give your full address and postcode.

Expect to be ignored if you write to an MP who is not yours. If you write to a random MP your email might just get deleted- or forwarded to your own MP. Don’t write to lots all in the same email.

Lots of MPs are simply unaware of this stuff. I work for one. We have around 70,000 constituents. 5 have contacted us about gender issues.

As there is no legislation before Parliament it is not a priority.

Many MPs want to appear woke. They don’t realise the repercussions of GRA changes & self ID.

In some areas there are local elections next week. Candidates are keen to get votes- if you can write this week, write to local council candidates to see what they say. Many of them will not have even hear of the GRA, or be aware of the term transgender.

Good luck!

Badgerthebodger · 27/04/2019 19:28

Thanks Genetic - if you’re the poster I’m thinking of you gave us some great advice along the same lines last year!

I think writing to your own MP is brilliant, or better still go and see them and take a few resources with you (not too many, pick an area of concern and go with that, you can’t cover everything).

I would really like to focus on those MPs with specific responsibility for (eg) women and equalities, children, health, etc. All and any contributions welcome, the most important thing is numbers.

teawamutu · 27/04/2019 21:13

Bring it on. I lack many things as an activist but I do write a pretty good letter...

Badgerthebodger · 27/04/2019 21:52

Teawamatu good letter writers extremely welcome!! As is anyone who has a spare half hour to have a bit of a trawl through this board as there are some fucking marvellous letters and it would be great to use some of them for inspiration. Do PM me with an email if you’d like to do any behind the scenes type work. We will need a few of us to effectively co-ordinate Smile

Fallingirl · 29/04/2019 23:55

Badger, I’m more than happy to join in, in any way I can. Will pm you.

Daughterofmabel · 30/04/2019 08:39

Ive pmd you

OhHolyJesus · 30/04/2019 13:55

Will have a look at Trello when link is shared OP, never used it before and will need to set up a burner email address before connecting there.

Will share this on Trello too but seeing as I've made a start sharing here also...
