The 2019 MP Campaign

Hello all

Following on from Brighterf's thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3570011-request-for-hsc-enquiry-into-tavistock-response-from-chair

I wondered if it might be a good idea to have a concerted 2019 MP campaign? I helped co-ordinate last year when we were really just getting started with writing to MPs, and I think now might be a good time again. Crucially though, we MUST make sure we write well before they all go on their Summer holidays so I think we ought to get going now.

Would anyone like to help co-ordinate? We'll need a list of relevant ministers, departments, committees etc, as well as some brief template letters and some overall agreement on what we are asking for.

I personally think Brighterf's suggestions to push for an enquiry from the Health and Social Care Committee is a great one, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people we could write to to try and influence this. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I think an overall focus on being concerned about the treatment of children would be beneficial as it's not a topic that can really be argued with once you start to look into it on even the most superficial level.

I want the clinicians undertaking "treatment" to be held accountable for their actions. I want the NHS to think hard about pursuing a pathway which is not supported by any evidence.I want every doctor and associated HCP to think, think and think again about the child sat in front of them and what reasons they might have for wanting to live as the opposite sex. Abuse? Autism? Munchausen's by Proxy? Any of the other issues children with gender dysphoria typically present with? And I want them to think about WHY they are so keen to put this child, this individual child in front of them, onto a lifetime of medication, mutilation and misery.

So, who's with me? Who's up for channelling some anger into action? Let me know if you want to be involved in co-ordinating or just generally want to join in with the campaign.

Response from Dept of Children & Families to my letter of 8th April which was after the Times articles - I have replied asking for more on the research mentioned. At least 'gender' was used and not 'sex'.

Dear OhHolyJesus,

Thank you for your email of 8 April in which you ask about the Gender Identity Development Service. I am responding on behalf of the Minister for Women and Equalities.

The Gender Identity Development Service is the responsibility of the NHS, and like all trusts, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is subject to CQC inspections, monitoring and regulation. The Department of Health and Social Care is committed to ensuring thorough accountability and oversight, whilst supporting the NHS to deliver safe and high-quality health care services for young people. I would like to assure you that there are a number of oversight measures in place at present to provide regulation, scrutiny and evidence.

You may also be interested to know that the Government is aiming to deliver all commitments in the LGBT Action Plan by the end of this Parliament and that includes its commitment to improve our understanding of the impacts on children and adolescents of changing their gender. The findings of this research will be published in due course.

I hope this information is helpful.

Yours sincerely
Government Equalities Office

Very interesting. I wonder what research they mean?

OhHolyJesus · 01/05/2019 13:20

Indeed - who is doing the research, who are the researchers influenced by and when will we, the public, be told about what's happening?

I didn't expect any real answers but I'm pressing for more info on the research specifically.

I hope it means they're going to get round to carrying out that investigation Penny Mordaunt promised.

There is an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Young People's Health

This would seem to be an avenue for the enquiry into the state-sponsored experiment on children?

The Chair is Martin Whitfield (Labour, East Lothian)

Thank you for these really helpful links. Just to add that APPGs are well worth contacting to raise awareness and they do write reports- always good- but also that Select committee enquiry reports are the ones that Government Ministers have to respond to- and the government have to send witnesses to give evidence if they are called by select committees.. so these are a higher profile type of inquiry for influencing but at this point all Parliamentary attention is welcome given the scandalous lack of critical thinking going on in both Houses.

Just reviving this thread - has anyone got any emails sent that could be cut and paste and reworded to for us all to share?

I see many brilliantly written, strongly worded letters by you all on here and I take inspiration from them to write my own.

I have had replies from my MP and a reply from the Dept for Children and Families, has anyone else made progress?

I need to chase up Dept for Women and Equalities as I await a reply to my follow up and Matt Hancock and I'll report back.

Let's keep the momentum going!
