Charlize Theron: My child I thought was a boy is... a girl!
mol.im/a/6938233

...apparently because 'Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: 'I am not a boy'

Sorry for the daily fail link.

It's bizarre to me that anyone could be so affirming to gender stereotyping as to deny the child of their actual sex, assuming what's reported is correct.

My ds went through a phase when he was about 5, where he wouldn't do naughty things, it was his evil secret twin apparently Hmm.

I guess I just forgot for years that he had a bother? Silly me... He's also been a werewolf, Dracula, Frankensteins monster, spongebob square pants, and frig knows what else...

This is lunacy..?

BettyFloop · 19/04/2019 02:23

Having a trans-kid is now fashionable doncha know - in an AbFab way, obvs.

The damage these people are doing is indescribable.

ReSistingPink · 19/04/2019 02:46

@BettyFloop
Nail on the head there.

Daffopill · 19/04/2019 02:57

I think she should have respected her child’s right to privacy.

entropy76 · 19/04/2019 03:48

I feel like there are a number of people using their "trans" kid for woke points, never mind how the kid feels about it.

No one could accuse actress Charlize Theron of following the crowd Opening line of the article...isn't that exactly what she is doing though? Buying into this "fashionable" idea that we all need a trans child.

GeordieGenes · 19/04/2019 03:59

Op, there's no need to apologize for the Daily Mail. It is one of the only newspapers that is repeatedly covering and challenging this topic. They are surprisingly fair to both sides of the debate.

FlyMayBe · 19/04/2019 04:01

My strapping 17yo DS used to love wearing his sister's Snow White costume. Guess I must've gotten things wrong?

BettyFloop · 19/04/2019 04:10

Yes, seems to me that's that's exactly what she's doing differentname

It's reminded me of Waynetta wanting a "brown baby" because everyone else on the estate had one....

lboogy · 19/04/2019 04:59

It's so weird to encourage a child to be confused. By all means let them explore but surely given them some guidance

differentnameforthis · 19/04/2019 05:03

@BettyFloop Exactly.

This is what happens when it's more "trendy" to have a child believe they can change their sex, instead of allowing them to explore their own style and personality through clothing etc

Letting a boy wear pink and dresses... NO way! Boys can't wear pink ...

unless they "suddenly" become trans, then it's absolutely fine because that's a thing now, isn't it. We can't have kids wearing the wrong colors, because that's damaging, but we can have them believe they can change their sex.

Face palm

Forgotthebins · 19/04/2019 06:27

Her childhood sounds highly traumatic - the terrifying abusive father, threatening them with a gun, the mother having to take the extreme heroic action of shooting the father in self-defence. It wouldn't be entirely surprising if a mother with that history was watching a son, trying to make sure they never turn into the mother's own terrifying father. I hope this family do okay, and get past this history of trauma.

LassOfFyvie · 19/04/2019 06:31

We discussed before. Theron wanted a black baby but the nasty South African authorities wouldn't let her have one.

CottonDuvet · 19/04/2019 07:08

She needs to look up "attachment disorder" then think again very carefully about who she gets advice from regarding her adopted child.

MoltenLasagne · 19/04/2019 07:43

If her priority was doing the right thing by her adopted son she’d keep his privacy about personal medical issues. The fact this is a headline appals me - what does this do if he starts having doubts now that she’s told the world?

littlbrowndog · 19/04/2019 07:45

Yeah. Wtaf putting this ought to a paper.

It’s private to her son and should remain private

Punxsutawney · 19/04/2019 07:49

When eldest old son was at pre school he believed he was Buzz Lightyear. He told all the staff that is who he was and convinced them to change his name to Buzz in the register. They did and called out Buzz instead of his name each morning.

This of course was short lived for a few months in pre school and he is now 19 and has no desire to be a space ranger.

sue51 · 19/04/2019 07:58

My DD believed she was my little pony and made a tail out of a j cloth sticking out of her pants. It went on for about 2 years on and off. No lasting damage done, I hope this child comes through unscathed too.

My now 14yo dd regularly used to announce "I a boy!" Aged about 3 and 4. Mins you, sometimes she was a dinosaur. Or a dog.

She was - and is - a v happy, well adjusted girl.

eurochick · 19/04/2019 08:15

My four year old spent the first three months of this year claiming to be a cat and miaowing loudly. I haven't had her neutered and bought a box for her to shit in. Ffs.

Isadora2007 · 19/04/2019 08:19

My daughter was definitely a dog for a good while and would only eat if fed under the table from a bowl.
Then she wanted to be a boy when she was 7/8 and we all called her her boy name for a while.
She’s now a mum- and most definitely a woman.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/04/2019 08:21

At that age DS used to pretend to be a dog.
