The protesting students divided into two groups, one supporting girls and one suporting transgender use of the facilities. The transgender support group was twice as big as the female support group. The school says the law is on the side of the transgenders.
This is disgraceful.

Student Brandi Scherlund said, “I believe if you have the male parts you go to the males’ bathroom and if you have the female parts you go to a ladies room and that's just the way I was raised." She is quite correct.

Whatever happened to LP? They must be at uni by now I suppose. Or working.

Lamaha · 13/04/2019 10:36

Oh my goodness me. I noticed that the headmistress was choosing her words very carefully indeed. She didn’t look happy or in agreement with the law at all.

Absolutely! She's basically saying, my hands are tied, it's the law, but they have the right to protest.

I did read on here if I remember correctly and more than happy to be corrected that in fact she was disappointed in the end result as the changing room.was far from what American movies portrayed with girls stood around naked or in underwear chatting and play fighting with towels.

Again I have no idea if it's true but I would like to know how many actually end up in a room.on their own while the girls all just shiver their clothes on over the pe kit or change in the toilet instead.

Shove their clothes.

Stupid phone

You're right about Ireland. We've haven't so much drank the kool-aid as bathed in the bloody stuff. They're seeking to update the gender recognition act so that children can undergo the process without parental consent.

DuchessDumbarton · 13/04/2019 11:23

Nobody do you have a link for information on that? Seriously concerning.

DuchessDumbarton · 13/04/2019 11:35

Found one here.

which seems to say that

Quote-
" The key recommendations of the report are that, in principle;
A: a system of gender recognition be introduced for children subject to the following key principles:

  • parental consent required
  • the process to be administrative,
  • third party support for the child and family involved
  • a straightforward revocation process to be included" End Quote

I think the second point is to exclude a medical assessment- on that page the head of the LGBT charity says that
" Basing legislation on self-determination reflects that this is a legal process and therefore there is no requirement for medical experts, medical treatments or diagnosis of a mental disorder for individuals to be legally recognised."

DuchessDumbarton · 13/04/2019 11:36

Am I missing something here?
Is it seriously proposed (in Ireland) that children can legally change their gender without any medical assessment or support?

NobodysBlackerThanMe · 13/04/2019 12:48

spunout.ie/life/article/recommendations-gender-recognition-act

"The report also recommended that a legal process be put in place for cases where there is not consent from both parents or it is not possible or safe to get consent."

Ireland likes to think itself as being ahead of the curve in whatever is trending (smoking ban, plastic bag tax) . I think this is just another example.

There have been other walk outs due to transgender use of girls' toilets and found the following:

www.christianexaminer.com/article/100.high.school.students.walk.out.when.transgender.uses.girls.locker.room/49446.htm

The entitlement is mind-boggling: "I didn't want to be in something gender-neutral," Perry told the TV station. "I am a girl. I am not going to be pushed away to another bathroom."

Perry, who wears a wig, also refused to believe the girls are simply uncomfortable.

"I think this is pure and simple bigotry," Perry said

@Nobody that is truly disgusting. I'm concerned because it looks as if my 9 year old granddaughter is going to be moving here in summer. Do you know if the schools have trans info packs like in the UK?

I'm not sure. I'd like to believe the church controlled schools are keeping out of it. Educate Together schools are a bit more suspect. The ones in the firing line are single sex schools now that the law recognises transitioning at 16.
