Regrettably but predictably, VRR choosing to ignore Canada's civil rights laws causes blow-back.
What laws are they breaking exactly? Only a minor point MO but they won their court case, so this is bollocks. (see below)
I empathize VRR feel threatened by the predictable response to their conduct.
So they were asking for it, and MO empathises. With who exactly - I’d say the perpetrators.
As I have previously offered, I am ready to help VRR get out of their mess if they wish to.
A ‘mess’ Oger created. And this sounds like a direct threat or extortion. This sounds like something I’d expect to hear from a pimp, abuser, or terrorist.
VRR v Nixon
On December 19, 2003 the Supreme Court decided that there was an error in judgement in the previous tribunal. The Vancouver Rape Relief was not guilty of discrimination based on the group’s right of freedom of association. This meant that the group had the right to organize as women-only space, irrespective of gender identity.
Following this decision Nixon appealed to the British Columbia Court of Appeal who unanimously maintained the previous decision by the Supreme Court of BC. They held that Vancouver Rape Relief Society was protected under the Human Rights Code, Section 41. This allowed the society to abide by its women-only policy, based on its rational and interests in serving women. On February 1, 2007 the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed Nixon’s request to appeal the decision. Nixon was also charged with covering the awarded costs of Vancouver Rape Relief, which she has refused to pay.
