Writing to MPs about the 4thWaveNow threads

Morning all

Following the horrifying threads posted recently by 4thWaveNow I am going to write to my MP highlighting this issue and asking for action. I know that FB group is predominantly American, but I think we can all imagine the same scenario easily taking place in the UK.

I wondered if anyone could give me a helping hand crystallising my thoughts beyond “Fuck this is so horrible it makes me cry”

So far I’m thinking:

Reference 4thWaveNow threads as what brought it to my attention
Somehow (help!) link together the environment which enables these things to happen so - overall push for trans inclusion, affirmative practice from HCPs, support groups run by TRAs, aggressive targeting of dissenting voices, disturbing reports coming out of Tavistock = parents purchasing “age/size appropriate prosthetic bulges” (heave, horrible thing to type) and strapping their children’s genitals down with duct tape.

Obviously I will be doing some additional reading of threads! Any help gratefully received and if anyone would like to join me in writing to their MP, ChattyLion suggested on the other thread that we ask for a Health select committee inquiry, which seems like a great idea.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for the thread Badger, just placemarking for now but will have a think and get back to you. This thread really made me think there needs to be proper scrutiny from a health perspective and ideally ultimately some kind of case by case regulation because the system is really not working safely for either gender non conforming kids or kids who have actual gender dysphoria in the current set up:

Here’s how the Commons Health Select committee works:

Below link to who the members are:
Sarah Wollaston the Chair is a GP. Good start.
committees need some evidence to start their enquiries- whether of concerning issues and of public concern. We have loads of both of that on these threads. TRAs have no evidence, that is why it’s always all #nodebate

So If parents just email a few points that we think are important to the committee - whether or not we are gender critical or think that affirmation is the way to go- it can be heard and looked at in the open. Who can argue against that?

I want mental health support to be better for young people in general with shorter waiting lists, including those with gender dysphoria and those who are confused or exploring gender (if they are also in distress).

Evidence and political attention is how any issue gets to be prioritised. So let’s just start contacting people asking them to look at this.

You can email the Chair, any member MP (especially if it’s your own MP) and the secretariat of the committee directly who may pass these things on to the Chair to consider.
