Thomas Cook (staff) are bullies.

I hate bullies.

I too want to see the "dress code" and I'd also like to know if the morons at TC have EVER treated a man this way. I suspect not. Arseholes.

Strugglingtodomybest · 14/03/2019 08:11

Even if there is a dress code, why did no-one mention it to her until she was sat on the plane?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 08:24

It’s a crop top and plenty of people wear them on flights in summer. Men get to wear vests? It’s stupid to treat her like this.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 08:28

anniehm - would you like to challenge them over their double standards in not asking the man wearing a vest to cover up then? Since you're in favour of "making a stand"?

feelingverylazytoday · 14/03/2019 08:28

One point she made was that on the same plane was a male passenger wearing a vest top. Who.... was not asked to "cover up'" in any way
Well maybe she should have worn a vest top as well then, if she wanted to be treated in the same way. The fact is, she didn't, she wore something that was considered not appropiate for the dress code.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/03/2019 08:31

TheOnlylivingboy it would only be double standards if women weren't allowed to wear vests and men were. The fact is, vest tops are different from crop tops/bralettes.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 08:34

It doesn’t look very comfortable or practical travel wear but I’ve seen less/worse in flights.

If that had been me I would have laughed, made a stupid comment like ‘well I suppose I’m just too darn hot so had better cover up’ and put on a jumper (I always have a jumper in my hand luggage as places get bloody cold).

Everyone knows that air staf Have The Power and can be very mardy, so here’s really no point in arguing with them.

Why is everything a drama with people these days? Put on a jumper - get a photo and take the piss online later.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 14/03/2019 08:34

I'm interested in the views of the people standing up for Thomas Cook

which part of this woman specifically needed to be covered up?

Her shoulders?

A part of her stomach?

which bit was so bad that it warranted singling her out in front of a plane full of people?

deydododatdodontdeydo · 14/03/2019 08:38

I guess airlines have clothing policies to stop people wearing beachwear on the flight.
It doesn't look offensive to me, but if they have a policy, they are entitled to stick to it.
If the man was contravening the policy and they said nothing to him, it's double standards.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 08:43

The fact is, vest tops are different from crop tops/bralettes.

Ah yes. The shocking sight of a woman's midriff must be avoided at all costs.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 08:45

Why would you want your bare skin touching a seat? Has she not seen the creepy crawlers on the tube?

She must have had a top with her - she got to the airport and it’s not exactly been tropical here.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 08:48

Why would you want your bare skin touching a seat?

So your arms don’t touch the seat? Your head? Should we wear hijabs?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 08:50

Don’t be silly! I mean a bunny suit of course 🙄

But really - your soft back touching the manky, scratchy seats? Yuk. And it gets lost cold on flights.

MullofKintire · 14/03/2019 08:56

I would like to see a dress code on a plane - and I would like to see it applied to everybody. I think shirts and shorts should be a minimum.

Many of the comments on this thread seem to imply that because she is a young woman with an attractive body, wearing just a bra on her upper body is acceptable. Would people take the same view if she was an obese, older woman? Or an obese man without a shirt? If not, what are the assumptions associated with the first judgement?

Planes are cramped. No-one wants to be touching a stranger’s bare flesh. It follows therefore that they should apply a dress code. Well done Thomsons!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 09:02

If there is a code then it should be publicised. Why didn’t anyone say anything at checkin?

I think they handled it badly and it escalated. Did noon tell the shouty man off?

TheFaerieQueene · 14/03/2019 09:02

What she is wearing is fine.

As for those saying planes are cramped and who wants to touch other people’s bare flesh, if you are sitting next to her, what part of her would you be touching? Her arm, perhaps! Oh, the horror!

Horsewithnogender · 14/03/2019 09:13

No-one wants to be touching a stranger’s bare flesh.

But if your arm was covered by your shirt, you wouldn't be touching her "flesh".

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 09:33

No-one wants to be touching a stranger’s bare flesh

So let me get this straight. When you go on a plane, you have covered every inch of your body which might come into contact with another person? You always wear long sleeves? And long trousers? And gloves?

How odd.

LassOfFyvie · 14/03/2019 09:36

She is wearing a bra. A badly fitting bra as her left breast is bulging out of it. It is disingenuous to witter on about her shoulders or midriff.

I've never sat beside anyone on a plane wearing just a bra on their top half . I would prefer not to sit beside anyone dressed like that.

Thomas Cook seem to have dealt with it very badly. Asking her politely to put something on top of her bra is fine but it seems to have escalated, presumably with help from her.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 09:37

Would people take the same view if she was an obese, older woman?

Actually yes. Maybe it’s those with objections that have an issue with the fact she’s young and slim? Body size and age is irrelevant to me when it comes to clothing.

BlackPrism · 14/03/2019 09:39

While it is a bra style top (a badly fitting one), it's not actually a bra and we've all seen young women wearing similar. While I wouldn't choose to wear it to travel (and I'm 23) it shouldn't have been deemed offensive unless she was travelling somewhere like Dubai or Turkey which I could understand. They'll see far worse IN Tenerife

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 09:40

Her left breast is not bulging out of it, plenty of women have the same area to the side of our breasts which can bulge out like that. If she wore a vest top, it would only cover an extra small area of her midriff- which has minimal exposure here.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 14/03/2019 09:43

She would have been cold wearing just that on a plane!

MullofKintire · 14/03/2019 09:49

So let me get this straight. When you go on a plane, you have covered every inch of your body which might come into contact with another person? You always wear long sleeves? And long trousers? And gloves?

I do always wear a long sleeved shirt and long trousers on a plane. No gloves though! And I really hate sitting next to people whose bodies intrude into my minimal personal space on a plane. The dislike escalates according to the flesh in question - brush of a hand I can shrug off, a covered arm ditto if it is fleeting, but a big roll of bare flesh even if on legs I find intolerable. Upper body worse. And I do not think I am odd!

And my point is that if it is ok for her it is also ok for larger people.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 09:59

And my point is that if it is ok for her it is also ok for larger people.

Wow. So are you suggesting larger people should cover their arms too? In case poor you has to touch their horrible flesh? My god.
