No 1: ‘To My Trans Sisters’ – Edited by Charlie Craggs

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 13/03/2019 13:23

I’m genuinely surprised that they were all books regards Transwomen.

EcclesThePeacock · 13/03/2019 13:30

The link won't open for me.
Am I right in supposing I'm not missing much?

Centering The Lady Cock: How to Make Your Feminism More Intersectional

Lemoncakestrudel · 13/03/2019 13:53

Is feminism not inclusive of women enough? Why do we have to include men other people?

ColeHawlins · 13/03/2019 13:54
Angry
WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 13/03/2019 13:56

who is this tiresome non-capitalizing person at the end?

They're not all about trans, are they? The first one is but none of the rest?

hellandhairnets · 13/03/2019 13:59

Yawn.

Pathetic.

It would be good if people actually bothered learning what "intersectional" - as Kimberley Crenshaw saw it - is actually about.

Clue: It isn't neoliberal or about sparkles. It also doesn't mean "put women and girls below trans women in the hierarchy of oppression at all times." It doesn't mean "all women must agree that they have lady-brain or they are all evil bigots." And it has nothing to do with inclusion.

Can't think how they left out Woke by Titania McGrath.

Bowlofbabelfish · 13/03/2019 14:15

Can you explain why my feminism needs to centre men, please?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 13/03/2019 15:33

How I lowered the cotton ceiling. A selection of poems centering penis.

pigsknickers · 13/03/2019 15:40

bell hooks is well worth looking up, I certainly don't find her tiresome.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 13/03/2019 15:41

saying 'I don't do capitals' is enormously tiresome.

pigsknickers · 13/03/2019 15:57

She's an African-American radical feminist from the south, she pretty much sums up what "intersectional" was coined to mean. Her writing is incredibly powerful. Your sneering makes you look a bit ignorant tbh.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 13/03/2019 15:58

she may well be all those things. Saying 'I don't do capitals' is tiresome and detracts from whatever message she wants to convey.

Lemoncakestrudel · 13/03/2019 16:25

bowl because men?

Bowlofbabelfish · 13/03/2019 16:32

Intersectionality was supposed to examine how types of women were doubly disadvantaged by for example, being poor, or black.

It does not provide any justification for centering men in feminism.

Italiangreyhound · 13/03/2019 16:36

I must be ignorant because I too got hung up on the not doing capitals! But I am open-minded because I want to know why!

User07734 · 13/03/2019 16:48

Why does not capitalising her name in anyway detract from what she is trying to say? Confused I'm sure this prominent black feminist author in her sixties is worrying that people won't take her seriously because of the way she writes her pen name.

User07734 · 13/03/2019 16:49

We're really all very quick to tell women how they must behave in order to be worthy of being listened to.

Italiangreyhound · 13/03/2019 16:51

User07734 who do you think is doing that?

User07734 · 13/03/2019 16:53

Gloria Watkins attended racially segregated public schools in Hopkinsville as a child. She performed poetry readings for her church community and was heavily influenced by her great-grandmother, Bell Hooks, who was known for her sharp opinions. As a writer, she chose the pseudonym, bell hooks, in tribute to her mother and great-grandmother. She decided not to capitalize her new name to place focus on her work rather than her name, on her ideas rather than her personality.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/03/2019 16:55

That Audre Lorde collection is amazing

OldCrone · 13/03/2019 17:04

Thanks for posting that. I was wondering why she didn't use capitals, because like others I find that sort of affectation irritating. But surely by not capitalising her name she's doing the opposite of what she says, and drawing more attention to her name, because most people use capitals.
