I just want to say a huge "thank you" to Rachel McKinnon.

They have helped to bring a hugely important topic into the mainstream media, and in doing so have peak-transed thousands of new people!

They have also attracted the attention of numerous iconic female sports stars: Martina and Dame Kelly Holmes, to name just two. This will surely encourage many more women to come forward.

You cannot buy publicity and exposure this good! Smile

Thank you Rachel. You may be a feminist icon after all! (But not quite in the way you envisioned...) Thanks

There's a German verb which is perfect to describe what Rachel has done recently:

'verschlimmbessern (the verb verschlimm means “to make things worse” and the verb verbessern means “to improve”). This word literally equates to making something worse during the act of trying to improve it.'

In trying to stop any debate on the subject she has dragged it right into the spotlight.

Well done Rachel.

I believe it's also known as 'the Streisand effect'.

FermatsTheorem · 07/03/2019 23:35

That orchestra tweet - what a non-sequitur. Though strangely typical of McK, whose thesis was after all on how truth doesn't matter if you tell a lie assertively enough; McK's idea of arguing seems to go "P on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, not P the rest of the week, and affirm the consequent on days with a y in them." I fear that they may have skipped the formal logic component of their philosophical training.

(However on the subject of sex discrimination, Malcolm Gladwell has some interesting stuff on how orchestras, particularly for section leader's chairs, were male dominated until they introduced auditions behind screens!)

Yes, thanks Rachel! We truly can say that no-one has done more to get the issue of transwomen competing in women’s sports on the agenda. You really have made people sit up and notice.

Sadly, the thing that they mostly do after the sitting up and taking notice is heartily disagree with you and start lobbying to change the rules that let you in. Ah well, you win some, you lose some, eh?

SophoclesTheFox · 07/03/2019 23:51

I love that word, fairenuff, trust the Germans to nail it Grin

Fairenuff · 07/03/2019 23:54

The Germans have all the best words. What a great language!

EcclesThePeacock · 07/03/2019 23:57

I'm sure there should be some way to get 'verschlimmbessern', 'zeitgeist' and 'schadenfreude' into one sentence (or, quite possibly, one word).

AornisHades · 07/03/2019 23:59

Oh Rachel I so hope you get to compete in the Olympics. Imagine the world at your dainty feet, lauded as a gold medal winning woman. Sharron's only got a silver (because of drug cheats but you're different). Can you imagine standing head and shoulders above the losers while the world looks on?

frazzled1 · 08/03/2019 00:01

Thanks for the peak trans Rachael.

Now, about this no live debates policy......

More peak trans. Spot the lady brain.

BertBox · 08/03/2019 00:06

Rachel has some interesting photos on Instagram as well. I wonder if Rachel ever won money in men's' races.

Thanks Rachel. Your help to me, as a mum, has been invaluable. I’ve tried for such a long time to peak my young adult sons (also known as young men, because they’ve got a penis), and had to cope with them calling me a bigot. It’s heen really tough, but you did what I couldn’t and peaked my boys. little tears of joy escape from my eyes I shall be forever grateful. 🤗 💐 and something to eat, 🥜 🍆 🥜 to keep you healthy. After all, we want to keep you around for a long time. You have an awful lot more people to peak, on behalf of women.

MhairiV · 08/03/2019 00:10

McKinnon has done more damage to the trans movement in recent months than almost anyone else I can think of. All because Rachel is a self-indulgent narcissist and bully with more brawn than brains. The mask has slipped and then some.

Those photographers? They knew. Everybody knows. Those women you cycle with? They're not actually delighted that you're stealing their opportunity. They're being silent, accommodating and polite, like we've all been doing for way too long. There's some truths for you. Suck em up.

Fairenuff · 08/03/2019 00:11

That bike in the photo looks like it's designed for a male. Just an observation as women's bikes don't usually have the crossbar do they?

FermatsTheorem · 08/03/2019 00:13

Fairenuff racing bikes always have cross bars, regardless of which sex is riding them. The triangular shape is an intrinsically stronger structure meaning the tubing can be a lighter weight.

Fairenuff · 08/03/2019 00:16

Why isn't there a crossbar on the other bike in the photo?

Fairenuff · 08/03/2019 00:18

Maybe there is and we just can't see it because of the angle?

FermatsTheorem · 08/03/2019 00:21

In Frazzled's screenshot? Camera angle. Look at the height of the handlebars (bearing in mind that the saddles are a lot higher than the handlebars so as to get into a really tucked position to minimize air resistance). The crossbar on the woman rider's bike is just out of shot below the bottom of the photo.

AornisHades · 08/03/2019 00:23

A quick Google of Laura Kenny shows her competing on a bike with a crossbar. It also shows a pic of her looking v glamorous.

PeakTransedAgain · 08/03/2019 00:27

The award for peaktransing us all again goes to.......
Rachel! 🎉🍾🎊🥇🏆

BertBox · 08/03/2019 00:28

Specialized have a separate twitter account for women's bikes - (@specializedwmn) - there's some links on it to design, and a few articles discussing the idea that bikes don't have to be designed differently at all.

boatyardblues · 08/03/2019 00:39

However on the subject of sex discrimination, Malcolm Gladwell has some interesting stuff on how orchestras, particularly for section leader's chairs, were male dominated until they introduced auditions behind screens!)

And also remove their shoes, as the women’s heels were giving them away.

WRT to Rachel - yes, a case study in the Streisand Effect. Brava!

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 08/03/2019 06:21

Thanks Eresh!

McTufty · 08/03/2019 07:23

I am actually horrified by the “is the penis doing the smear” tweet.

DonaldTwain · 08/03/2019 07:28

God that orchestra tweet. RM can’t be that stupid. Must be a double agent.
