I'm confused about this. Can someone who understands these things better than me explain this to me?
The Daily Mail article says that Miranda's case was the first criminal prosecution for transphobic hate crime in the UK.
Government stats on hate crime (www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2017-to-2018) says that 1651 transgender hate crimes happened in 2017-2018. 9% of these were "violence against the person with injury" and 24% were "violence against the person without injury"
Did none of these crimes go to trial?
If so, I feel that there is a serious issue with reporting them as "hate crimes". How do you know if a crime occurred, if it never went to trial? But also, why didn't they, if they involved violence?
