Peaked over periods

Well ladies I’ve finally peaked to peak all peaks.

I’ve been lurking for some time, following threads here, Reddit, twitter etc.

I was quite liberal about these issues for a long while - it seemed the liberal thing to do, ‘live and let live’ and all that.

I think my first query was Jenner winning woman of the year, which seemed... typical I suppose.

Since then, it feels like an ever-escalating series of events. But I digress.

I’ve been reliably (!) informed that Transwomen get periods (minus bleeding). They get breast tenderness, moodswings and cramps apparently. Every month without fail.

This cannot, cannot possibly be right? Are periods the next battleground?

When this has come up before, I've put it down to the natural male hormone cycle which will be linked to all sorts of endocrine systems driven by the pituitary adding in synthetic hormones probably adds to the emphasis:

irritable male syndrome:

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/02/2019 17:36

But it's not a period. That's the shedding of menstrual blood.

It's just a fuck load of hormones.

anomoony · 25/02/2019 17:36

Prostaglandins! That was it. The uterine lining slouches off, releasing prostaglandins, which leads to cramping. The bloating they claim to also suffer from comes from progesterone. Their estrogen pills have nothing to do with this and cannot cause these symptoms no matter how they take them.

Well what a out post hysterectomy period that I get. In my head mostly . But I say it Is. So it is.
And that's my truth

Lemoncakestrudel · 25/02/2019 17:46

I believe its hormones released by the follicles in your ovaries that causes cramps etc. Willing to be corrected as it is a wee while since my last biology lesson.

Hamster00 · 25/02/2019 18:01

Period symptoms - rubbish. The hormones given are continuous, not cyclical. No cramps, or any of the fanciful bs they are making up. Nothing... damn, did I miss out on something? Hmm

Breast tenderness - yes, at the start of development. Mainly around the nipple area to start but then it stops after a few months. Nothing to write home about...

The TRAs will probably put down the nausea at the start of taking hormones down to "morning sickness" next... wait for it... lol.

Funny they don't mention the constant liver function tests you need, the constant blood monitoring or the other barrage of things you need to stay healthy when you're taking them. Oh wait - most of them are getting their "tit tacs" and "femme & ms " from the black market and unregulated sources....

BettyDuMonde · 25/02/2019 18:05

But, but, but... how else do they explain the need to watch chick flicks and eat chocolate?

Not symptoms I recognise, btw. My period makes me do crazy DIY stuff, single handedly, after midnight, whilst thinking bad thoughts about why my family isn’t helping me cut down this tree/lay these bricks/dismantle this triple wardrobe.

Hamster00 · 25/02/2019 18:12

But, but, but... how else do they explain the need to watch chick flicks and eat chocolate?

But isn't that what women do Betty? God, I'm not very good at this whole transsexual business... sigh.

Courday · 25/02/2019 22:52

My favourite was one I came across who said they had been laid up in bed with 'period pain'
A) whatever was wrong with them is/was not a period.
B) how many women have the luxury of lying around in bed when we have period pain? We have to try to get on with things the best we can. Deeply insulting to the women out there with severe menustrual issues.
But insulting women is what some individuals seem to revel in

I love it when you get to witness the batshittery in full force

Gingerkittykat · 25/02/2019 23:39

I wonder if they get period shits, a bunch of spots the week before and crushing depression the day before their period starts?

bluescreen · 25/02/2019 23:45

Whatever cs women suffer, transwomen will have it worse because for starters they don't have cs privilege, which lack makes everything hurt more. Both biologically and sociologically. So you can shut up, you shouty c*swimmen.
Because reasons. Which we don't need to re
Ewww.
I think I got the message right there.
But it's still crap. Keep warm and safe. xxx

esk1mo · 26/02/2019 00:53

i peaked further today after reading this

www.dailydot.com/irl/trans-sex-masturbation/

a MTF trans calling his penis a “clitoris”

the whole article made me feel sick

ToeToToe · 26/02/2019 01:00

Yup- not read that article, eskimo, but seen certain twitterers calling their penis their "clitty". There's not enough brain bleach really, there's not enough peaks in the world.

Yeahnahyeah · 26/02/2019 01:38

"clit on a stick..... come get my clit on a stick". Confused

Vixxxy · 26/02/2019 01:43

Surely this would only happen if the hormones were bespoke, so they varied on a daily basis as that’s what gives the mood changes/tenderness etc.

Well yes, this is my view also as a sensible person, but who knows what kind of 'science' there is backing up TRAs views!

Can well believe a few act 'bitchy' 'emotional' or whatever a few days a week and blame it on periods though, as thats obviously what all women do right, just to be horrid to poor men? So OBVIOUSLY that goes for male women too. Bigoted witches thinking otherwise.

bluescreen · 26/02/2019 03:38

Meanwhile, in other news, a [[https://mashable.com/video/period-end-of-sentence-oscar-netflix-documentary/?europe=true#CK48uSHorgqO
documentary about menstruation just won an Oscar.]]

PRoseLegend · 26/02/2019 03:48

@neurotrashwarrior
That's a really interesting read!
I've noticed my husband has ebbs and flows in his mood throughout the month, and it's good to see that people are researching this.
That being said, comparing a man's natural hormone fluctuations to a woman's monthly bleed and pregnancy and childbirth is like comparing apples and bananas.
Completely different matters, different hormones involved.

For milennia the fact that women bleed has been held against us, we have been called unclean, impure, banished to huts outside the village, been shamed, told our periods are vile and dirty, and convinced to stop our periods or pretend they don't happen with "whisper" and "quiet" pads and tampon wrappers, ads with women in white prancing about playing tennis on their periods.
Can any transwomen replicate that experience?
I'm a woman. I bleed. I just had a baby tear its way out of my vagina after camping in my body for 9 months, making me horribly sick and tired, causing aches in joints I didn't know existed.

Nothing a man who "feels like he's a woman trapped in a man's body" will ever compare to that experience.

And I'm not the most "feminine" of women either, I have short hair, wear t-shirts and jeans most days, go without makeup unless it's a wedding or a special occasion, and hate the colour pink.
These preferences don't make me any less of a woman than the woman who wears pink dresses and heels and has perfect hair everyday, yet some trans activists would tell me that I'm behaving in a non-binary manner.
Those are all external characteristics. Womenhood is not about how we dress or our hobbies and activities.
What makes me a woman is a combination of my chromosomes, my sex organs, and my lived experience of womanhood.

MrsJamin · 26/02/2019 05:28

Does the hrt they are on vary in strength throughout the month, to mimic the rising of oestrogen and progesterone in the last two weeks and then sudden diminishing of these at the onset of a period? If they don't vary from day to day, then this trans period stuff is total bollocks, obvs, but if they do vary then the hormones might have some effect on mood and diet, surely? But it's not a period or menstruation, it's just hormone fluctuations. Why would they want a period is beyond me.
A woman replying to that twitter thread said many "afab" Confused women didn't have bleeding every month either, how ridiculous to suggest that that means transwomen have periods too! If you are between 16-50, are not pregnant or breastfeeding and are not bleeding every month there is pretty much a medical problem going on.

sashh · 26/02/2019 05:50

I’ve been reliably (!) informed that Transwomen get periods (minus bleeding). They get breast tenderness, moodswings and cramps apparently. Every month without fail.

Yes but these are special periods, they happen on the same date each month, not the 28 days those of us blessed with bleeding get.

Lamaha · 26/02/2019 05:51

I saw somewhere that there are little vials of blood transwomen can buy to substantiate the delusion that they have periods.

Wherearemyminions · 26/02/2019 08:13

I am on HRT after having everything out a few years ago, so oestrogen only patches and it is a continuous level delivery, the only fluctuations might be if I forget to change a patch and even then you have a few days grace as your body uses up what is in the system, it's not instant like running out of fuel in an engine.

Appreciate the female endocrine system is far more complex than just ovaries but for me personally no cyclical symptoms at all nowadays (yay!) although I do feel that I've more than paid my dues in experiencing the worst that can offer in the years before the op!

Wherearemyminions · 26/02/2019 08:17

Sorry meant to add so yes, unless they are receiving a very complex cocktail of hormones designed to mimic this then tis just a load of BS.

I have shitty days, get run down, skin plays up, etc etc, but that's just life and there's a 1001 reasons for any of these things but having a period (me or them) aint one of em!

OnlineAlienator · 26/02/2019 08:28

Thanks minions thats interesting
