Onwards women!

I've decided to follow the trend and change my MN name to my real name. I apologise for my last comment on the JH thread. I ❤️ MN But it is a different format to the other platforms and I still haven't quite got my head round it yet!Confused

Bloody hell, the last few weeks have been extremely stressful and divisive for all of us! A sort of crescendo of all the behind the backstabbing that I've seen going on since I got involved in this movement in July 2017 and from what I'm told, has always been part of any women's movement. Sheila Jeffreys told me that back in the day, women even threw bricks through each other's windows. Shock

Does it matter if Posie is more working class than Bindel? That some women are just fighting against self ID while others reject transgenderism in its entirety? That some are staunch socialists, others politically homeless and our movement even includes religious conservatives? Blush

Personally I think our diversity is our strength. We are not all friends or even comrades and we may viciously disagree. With this multi pronged (haha) approach we have achieved amazing things in a very short time here in the UK and women all over the world are now speaking and standing up to misogynistic gender ideology. Smile

While social media is amazing for networking and sharing ideas, I honestly believe that the best way to get things done and make a positive change is to get together in real life. Who is up for a big social event in London soon? Glitterball Post edited by MNHQ at OP's request to correct an inaccuracy

As I said on one of the 'have a pop at Posie' threads, I'm never going to slag off or put a woman down who has had the brass balls to speak out in their own names.

Honestly, what you [and you personally] have done since I first heard your name/s is off the fucking scale.

All of you. Fucking ace.

BeUpStanding · 11/02/2019 23:22

Yes to a party!

RaininSummer · 11/02/2019 23:29

Sounds marvellous. I am going to the march with my daughter. Don't get to London much so this would be the icing on the cake.

Slapdasherie · 11/02/2019 23:32

Sadly not in the UK, so no meet-up for me, but totally agree that diversity should be strength.
The insistence on ideological purity just leads to splintering and extremism, and the end result is a lot less effective.
The same pattern has been repeated over and over again in history, and it certainly isn't just within feminism, but somehow it's only when women disagree that their whole argument is invalidated.

VeniceAllan · 11/02/2019 23:34

Is there going to be a GC MN block on the march?

OP posts:
Angryresister · 11/02/2019 23:35

But those of us who disagreed with each other in the 70s can now continue to debate and argue and make up on the net and in real life.

Pythagonal · 11/02/2019 23:46

Is there going to be a GC MN block on the march?

If there is, you need 'radicalised by Mumsnet' t-shirts!

MilletSentToForceIt · 11/02/2019 23:53

Is there going to be a GC MN block on the march?

I do hope so Venice. Good to be grouped together, easier to get everyone together for drinks! Gin

VeniceAllan · 11/02/2019 23:57

Julia Long would like to correct my assertion in the post that she and Rosa Freedman 'can't stand one another'. Julia does not know Rosa, has never even met her, and therefore holds no personal feelings towards her. Rosa made a number of comments about Julia and Posie Parker on social media; Julia has not responded in kind.

Quite. When politically active men disgree with each other it’s just called politics.

I echo people posts about diversity being a strength.

I also think disagreements are important for any movement, and would be desirable within political parties too. I think Lisa Muggeridge’s warnings about the Labour Party and momentum constituting a risk of totalitarianism are worth heeding. -Certainly, they are not covering themselves in glory with their point blank refusal to give a shit about women.

I say this as a life long socialist, who is done with mens politics, and at this mature time in life, I have come to realise that it would actually be truely horrific if everyone else agreed with me on everything. We’d all stop thinking and only realise the harm we’d done far too late.

terfsandwich · 12/02/2019 03:46

Not in UK here. I'd love that t-shirt though.

And well done, Venice, and Posie and Julia. I'm deeply admiring of your strength.

SandyDrawsBadly · 12/02/2019 08:04

Meet up?
T Shirt?
Women of Mumsnet?

This is sounding like my kind of thing.

Daughterofmabel · 12/02/2019 08:13

not near London or would've loved to join in. I'm up for a t-shirt though!

CallMeWoman · 12/02/2019 09:56

You can make your own using that website for a tenner. Easier than a secret handshake, imo!

OhHolyJesus · 12/02/2019 10:30

I'd love to come to a London event, childcare allowing. I'm still scared in some ways but trying to be brave!

MarciaDidia · 12/02/2019 10:47

If anyone is thinking of designing their own T-shirt, just thought I'd flag that the organisers ask that marchers wear red if possible (to symbolise the women's blood shed by male violence).

CallMeWoman · 12/02/2019 10:55

Excellent reminder. Thanks.

hackmum · 12/02/2019 11:37

I don't expect all GC feminists to agree with each other. Every political movement has its disagreements, often vicious. Sometimes the TRAs fight each other, which is fun to watch.

But I really wish women wouldn't carry out these arguments in public. It doesn't do our image any good and it gives encouragement to the TRAs. And people get so angry on social media, much more than they do in real life. I have found it incredibly upsetting to see women I admire hurling insults at each other.

Cwenthryth · 12/02/2019 12:05

Great post Venice, just want to say Thankyou for your work on all of this. I attended the WNTT event at the Houses of Parliament, and it was a phenomenal evening. The pub after was amazing - I’d gone solo, but that was no problem, I was amongst friends immediately.

I think I’m attending MWR with another group but would definitely come to a gender critical social meet after.

RiverTam · 12/02/2019 12:31

I'm not wearing a T shirt that has a rogue capital N in there

Otherwise, I'm in!

VeniceAllan · 12/02/2019 12:58

Julia Long has asked me to delete this thread as it misrepresents her and I have reported one of my comments to MN but not heard back. Can someone please help me get it taken down?! Thanks 🙏

Datun · 12/02/2019 13:03

Venice, you'll have to report it on your post, or your opening post. But it doesn't necessarily mean they'll do it.
