Requesting a woman as a chaperone for medical procedures

The erosion of women’s boundaries continues apace under the name of trans inclusion, prizing validation over women’s rights to consent and dignity.

The fuck did I just read

Showed DH he was wtf also

Zero consideration for the patient, the vulnerable person in that situation.

Verify2Terrify · 05/02/2019 21:46

I took copies of these from twitter - they've been posted by Clare B Dimyon - maybe adaptable for chaperone request too, as I think these refer to the treating HCP I think.

Heaven forbid that the patient’s need to have a potentially traumatic examination should be the focus of this HCP’s day, rather than their ‘gender identity’ and validation as a woman.

Can nothing, not even a gynaecological examination, be about a woman’s body?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2019 21:49

Deserves to be fucking well struck off.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 05/02/2019 21:51

It’s telling how little the woman patient and her needs features in this story isn’t it?

adultFemaleElf · 05/02/2019 21:53

Jesus H Christ.

No woman would be so ignorant of another woman’s needs in this situation.

drspouse · 05/02/2019 22:00

I would reply but surprise surprise, I'm blocked.

rocketromano · 05/02/2019 22:05

Zero concern for the female patient - what a surprise. I think the fact the female doctor was offering to help demonstrates her unease with the situation ie 2 biological males doing an intimate examination on a woman.

AncientLights · 05/02/2019 22:06

I'm just a teeny bit suspicious about this tale. What A&E in February has such a surfeit of staff? We have the writer, their registrar and the Dr offering to chaperone, so 3 of them. Plus, chaperoning usually falls to a nurse, not a Dr.

BowBeau · 05/02/2019 22:14

If this is true then it shows a huge lack of understanding about the needs of women who feel more comfortable being treated by a female HCP. The doctor’s needs and beliefs are irrelevant here. What’s important is the patient’s comfort. If she doesn’t want to be treated by a man or a trans woman or even a natal woman who reminds her of her abusive mother for example, she should have that option.

ClosdesMouches · 05/02/2019 22:15

Is Simon Eccles, Chief Clinical Information Officer aware that lots of people (including NHS staff) have been blocked by that account? Hmm

WokerThanWoke · 05/02/2019 22:50

This sounds like it was written by an American.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/02/2019 22:59

I suspect it's not true either. Although I can't believe the stupidity of making it up as it will peaktrans yet more people.

On the slender chance that it is true I applaud that transphobic doctor who was actually giving a shit about the patient.

Iused2BanOptimist · 05/02/2019 23:09

And among the cheer leaders is a pro science birthworker who has protected her tweets in the last five minutes.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/02/2019 23:14

WTF did I just read. How on earth can anyone even remotely sane object to midwifery being women centred?!

AncientLights · 05/02/2019 23:20

"Accessing our services who isn't a woman" FFS it's midwifery you're talking about here. Why would any not--woman need to access a midwife??? Jesus wept.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/02/2019 23:20

Why is a midwife sign posting anyone to Mermaids?

WokerThanWoke · 05/02/2019 23:27

”Midwifery as a profession is woman-centred’

You don’t say?

Iused2BanOptimist · 05/02/2019 23:27

I think I've had my ration of photos today so can't post any more screen grabs but it goes without saying that she has a workbook on "The Cissexist Language of Midwifery Care and Reproductive Justice".

My days of needing a midwife are long over thank God but should I meet one who spouts that nonsense there will be sharp words. Why are the sensibilities of the 99.9% of pregnant women so unimportant?

OvaHere · 05/02/2019 23:28

Absolute batshit nonsense.

All the screenshots in this thread read like The Creepy Fuckers 101 Guide to disassociating women from their bodies and their boundaries.

I do suspect the Gyne exam one might be made up though.

SwayingInTime · 05/02/2019 23:33

Chaperoning isn't sex/gender based, both male and female doctors are chaperoned by a non doctor, female midwives aren't. The story sounds bizarre.

AngryAttackKittens · 06/02/2019 00:02

This appears to have been made up in an attempt to win sympathy for the idea that transwomen HCPs should be treated as if they were born female by both patients and NHS guidelines. Rather a comical own goal in that it exposes how self centered the thinking behind that demand is, and how totally lacking in any concern for quality of patient experience.

XXcstatic · 06/02/2019 00:06

I agree that the original post is likely BS.

What is astounding though is Simon Eccles - a very senior doctor suggesting that it was bullying and might have led to the TW killing herself.

Women really aren't going to be allowed any boundaries are we, even bodily autonomy? Sad I don't care about Dr Haddock- he's a loon - but Eccles is a very senior policy-maker: it's disturbing.

Noqont · 06/02/2019 01:14

It's not about the gps bloody gender. It's about their biological sex. I would not want a transwoman acting as my female chaperone as their biological sex is not female. Biology is a reality. Gender is simply a feeling.

AngryAttackKittens · 06/02/2019 01:20

If I say I want a female chaperone then that is exactly what I mean. If I wanted a feminine chaperone (no idea why I would) then I'd ask for that instead (and assume the response would be bafflement).
