Very interesting article

Too long for this time in the morning! Aren’t they too tall to be a ballet dancer?

Igneococcus · 02/02/2019 09:04

It's a contemporary dance company, might not have the same restrictions as classic ballet.

Why is the tone so fawning? The Times is a serious newspaper, not an outlet for press releases.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 09:05

It’s a primo piece though.

Igneococcus · 02/02/2019 09:06

It often is in the Magazine or Times2 sections.

Same story as always. Boy likes stereotypical girl things, undergoes drastic cosmetic surgery to conform to societal standards. How is this progressive, fabulous or worthy of praise?

Juells · 02/02/2019 09:15

Aaron attended consultations there from the age of eight. At 11, Aaron was prescribed puberty-inhibiting drugs.

What strikes me as odd is at how young an age the father went looking for information about gender dysphoria. The child was dancing! Why would he not have thought the child might be gay? Or just like dancing and feminine things?

TooMinty · 02/02/2019 14:12

I'm being flippant, I know. But won't ballet be ruined if all male dancers are transitioned?

MargueritaPink · 02/02/2019 14:34

She isn't a ballet dancer.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 15:56

They started in ballet though. And no, a male wouldn't really pass as a classical female ballet dancer - its hard enough as a female to be the 'right' shape and size.

GalacticChickenShit · 02/02/2019 16:00

Trans twins...

But only one of them is trans surely?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 16:07

True that - but who are we to assume anything these days?

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 02/02/2019 16:10

Yes, definitely not ballet. There is a male dancer who has been dancing female roles recently; apparently he's had facial feminisation and is "gender fluid" but says he's a man & doesn't want to transition etc. TBH, not sure how a dancer could avoid or ignore the implications of biology. The thing that I do find distressing about this one, though, is what he did to cannibalise his body to reduce muscle mass etc. It's really unhealthy.

FlyingMonkeys · 02/02/2019 16:17

Not sure why the article requires taking their pants off though?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 16:23

I just took a look at the photo of the story above. The first thing that really struck me is their arms - very sinewy -and the second thing wasa their ribs showing through the leotard. The female body just has more body fat and the female form is more 'rounded' and softer looking. So no, unless in full costume I wouldn't be sure (i think the face is of a beautiful male or 'handsome' woman').

Taking parts from the women? No that's not on really is it? You aren't hearing howls of protest like you do when an actor plays a part that is not the same as their own sexuality, race, gender bla bla bla.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 02/02/2019 16:34

Yeah, Fekko, it's competitive enough for female dancers as it is!

I looked at films of Johnsey dancing and he's obviously amazing but also obviously male. It's the upper body that gives it away! He could do some fantastic stuff without taking roles from women.

AspieAndProud · 02/02/2019 16:36

Identical twins but only one is trans? This rather undermines the idea that trans is a genetic condition as they will have identical genomes. They’ll also have been subject to the same intrauterine environment during development. Something has happened that makes one trans and the other not, but whatever this is it can’t be said that one has ‘always been a girl’.

AspieAndProud · 02/02/2019 16:39

Precisely. Yet the article says there have been bowls of protest over a non-trans actor being cast in the role of the transwoman in the movie. Transwomen are women and are entitled to everything women have but only transwomen can have transwomen roles. Fuck that.

AspieAndProud · 02/02/2019 16:39

Howls of protest, FFS.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 02/02/2019 16:44

And can just state for MN record my post was about Chase Johnsey who is a male dancer dancing female roles who does use "he" pronouns and not about Nora.

Just in case someone gets trigger happy on possible misgendering!!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 17:18

He was even in the Trocks fgs. I wonder if they would let a woman join them.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 17:21

Aspie - I was thinking that too. I studied psychology about a million years ago and they were always citing twin studies (monozygotic and dizygotic). I found these very interesting although when I read later about how and why some of these twins (and even triplets/quads) were separated it made my skin crawl.

Gosh. What would Billy Elliot be like if it was made today?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 17:27

Betty Elliot. All glitter and sparkles
