Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Outside of the 'echo chambers' even farmers are now discussing trans stuff.

I've never started a thread in feminism chat before but I am an avid follower and occasional poster.

I often post about farming related stuff on other parts of Mumsnet and its rare that my 'farming world' and my 'Mumsnet world' collide but I've found the following discussion on The Farming Forum really interesting do thought I would share.

thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/what-about-the-gender-for-farmers-forum.269892/

Everyone should be discussing it.

drspouse · 31/01/2019 21:01
Grin A robust lot.
OvaHere · 31/01/2019 21:06

Interesting to read. It seems like someone was attempting to 'queer' farming spaces. Perhaps they are running out of the obvious ones to infiltrate now. Grin

I struggle to imagine how anyone could successfully be a livestock farmer whilst also buying into the notion that sex is a social construct.

Scrowy · 31/01/2019 21:06

You could say 'no nonsense' I suspose.

I find that interesting: general array of views there are more what I'd consider those you are likely to find in the countryside in general. Mostly accepting but bemused about why its an issue that needs bringing up when there's actual life to be getting on with. The odd old fashioned one. Some modern liberal tendencies. One stirrer.

AnyOldPrion · 31/01/2019 21:20

Growing up on a stock farm (presumably the vast majority of stock farmers still do) leaves very little room for doubt about sex (both meanings).

Additionally animals mount others of the same sex on a semi-regular basis. It would make sense to me if farmers were of the demographic “people least likely to be trans”

Could be wrong of course. It’d be interesting to know.

Scrowy · 31/01/2019 21:22

OvaHere well, yes Grin

Interestingly although farmers have a bit of a rep for being Conservative (with both a big and little c) they probably know the realities of sex/life/death and everything in between better than most.

That thread is excellent. Esp liked this post:
Nobody is defined by their sexuality. If all you want to talk about is the fact that you're gay / straight / bi /whatever , then everyone else is quickly going to get bored with you . It really doesn't matter.

Just get on with life.

Oxytocindeficient · 31/01/2019 21:24

teawamutu

That’s excellent and very true!

Zwischenwasser · 31/01/2019 21:25

I think THAT should pe posted on billboards alongside the adult human female. As a reminder to out fragrance friends that out there in the big bad world, not that many people give a fuck about their genderfeelz.

Zwischenwasser · 31/01/2019 21:26

Oops. Xpost.

Sorry i am a Slow typist.

Anlaf · 31/01/2019 21:26

Interesting. I wonder if they'll get an influx of
new posters calling The Farming Forum a 'cesspit of hate'.

(also looks like there's been some drama/ backstory with a namechanging poster on 'TFF'. Intrigue!)

WokerThanWoke · 31/01/2019 21:35

Well farming requires practical clothing for either sex so I can’t imagine many tw being drawn to it. Also long days involving thinking of something other than yourself. Again, tricky.

Though I suppose you could queer the sheep by spraying them with blue paint instead of red? (Or whatever the substance is, sorry i’m a townie!)

Scrowy · 31/01/2019 21:42

It's called rud woker if it's on a tup/ram at 'tupping' time. The rest of the time it's known by the very technical name of 'sheep marker'. Grin

OP posts:
teawamutu · 31/01/2019 21:55

Loving the idea of farmers who think biological sex is irrelevantGrin

WokerThanWoke · 31/01/2019 22:01

Aha thanks Scrowy!

I always wonder what will happen to the role of chicken sexer in these woke times.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 31/01/2019 22:01

I bet there are lengthy discussions about how on earth they get their stock to breed. After all, if they just went by genitalia that would be ridiculous.

WrathofRancidKlopp · 31/01/2019 22:02

I would imagine farmers would be very interested indeed to acquire the ability to transform a retired female dairy cow into a prize bullock.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 31/01/2019 22:03

And yy to the never-bloody-ending desperation to always be announcing themselves, their bastard sodding pronouns and sexual orientation.

Nobody gives one single solitary fuck!

Scrowy · 31/01/2019 22:19

Wrath I can see a lot of farmers being keen to get on board with that branch of trans ideology.

If a retired old dairy cow says it is a prize bullock then it is. #nodebate

I would love to be the BCMS worker having to process that cattle passport.

Ah yes, but if you can legally change the paperwork to tell a lie....

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 31/01/2019 22:40

I enjoyed that discussion. Not least because of the link to Brother Dege, a musician I need to hear more of.

In these parlous times, a bit of robust common sense goes down a treat.

“What would they talk about anyway?”
“Slurry, like the rest of us.” Grin

(I paraphrase).

OdeToDiazepam · 31/01/2019 23:00

Interesting thread, thanks for sharing!

thatdamnwoman · 31/01/2019 23:11

Oi — as a lesbian I'd love to never have to come out again, but most weeks I encounter people who assume I'm straight and I have to go through the whole tedious 'Actually, my partner is female' number yet again. It's some years since anyone actually said 'I don't care whether you're gay or straight, I just wish you gays and lesbians would stop going on about it' when I corrected their assumption that I had a husband but I suspect loads of people think it. I would love to live in a world where I don't have to make a choice between keeping quiet about who I am or having to come out yet again.

7Days · 31/01/2019 23:12

Lol at the thought of my uncle Mick taking the cattles' gender identity into account.

Some provide milk, some produce calves, some are premium meat, some are prize fathers, some go mad and break fences when they see certain - though not all - members of their species.
Poor Mick ; it's a right head scratcher these days down on the Old Farm.
