Excuse me - I honestly only stepped out for a moment. OK, admittedly, I have been sort of distracted for the last decade - y'know - children- take up a lot of time... no room of my own etc.... But ffs - when I left it was all going very nicely. If used to be that if you wanted to be a little bit radical, you hinted that female sportspersons should be paid like men.... and although there was obviously unequal pay, sexual harassment and you were subjugated by your reproductive role, no one - and I mean no one - was confused about what a woman was.

So literally I just looked away for a few seconds, and wtaf.

There just isn't enough gin in my day, and whilst I'm definitely too old, and too weak to start arguing with everyone again, I find there is just no alternative.

More to my horror, I've woken up to discover that TRAs have taken all the cool jargon. Being "woke" sounds so sorted... and "TW are women" is definitely more catchy -if slightly preposterous. As redress, I decided to reclaim "woke". I'm awake and cross and almost menopausal.

Think like a lot of women I'm just miserably unsure about what to do about it, other than feeling cross.... though I find that is always a useful first step. Thought I would come over and join MN, as I heard you were a bunch of evil harpies, intent on dreadful things Confused [skeptical] Please excuse me whilst I get used to the archaic emoji system - looking forward to chatting.

Welcome. How many sites have rational discussions, and their own emoticons for Dragon and Gin? (And Cake, Brew but try to avoid the Biscuit)

SeaWitchly · 13/01/2019 22:09

Welcome Woke

Does anyone know if there are any GC groups in Australia? I follow A Woman's Place and FPFW but obviously live a little far away to attend their meet-ups...

I am also a pre-menopausal woman in her mid-40s and love the thought of our collective name being 'Furies'!!!

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2019 22:09

What's the dragon looking thing mean?

Weezol · 13/01/2019 22:12

I'm not even close to menopausal and I'm happy to part of a snake knitting monstrous regiment with battalion HQ being the second building on the left after you've gone through the radicalisation portal. Hot and cold running water and colour television standard in all rooms, hotbeds available at a small additional fee. (please ask when booking to get the most competitive tariffs).

SpareRibFem · 13/01/2019 22:14

Just a warning wokenotbloke there isn't freedom of speech here eaither. There's all sorts of rules about what you can and can't say about trans. There's a sticky worth reading but even following those rules you can come a cropper on the 'not in the spirit' rule [humm]
Rules aren't applied consistently, trans have some terms they aren't supposed to use as the seriously piss women off but even if you report the tra posts that clearly break the rules they are rarely deleted...

OlennasWimple · 13/01/2019 22:16

Welcome Woke

I'm definitely ready for full-blown fury membership - bloody perimenopause

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/01/2019 22:18

Can I just say that I have never knitted a snake in my life and I refuse to apologise for this

Womaninnit · 13/01/2019 22:21

I think the word may be ‘coven’. I think it needs to be reclaimed

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2019 22:22

I already have one group that I'm involved in that we jokingly call a coven, so why not one more? Covens are highly underrated imo.

WokeNotBloke · 13/01/2019 22:22

Thanks SpareRib I read the blurb. I will try to be careful.

I feel this place needs more gin, and some cushions to mumble into. Shall scatter some around for you all (Sharing is caring etc etc) ;-)

What's the dragon looking thing mean?

Er, 'dragon'. I think it came into existence one St David's day, but stayed due to demand from the many and various dragons on MN. As someone said 'here be dragons' upthread it seemed relevant.Grin

ChesterGreySideboard · 13/01/2019 22:32

Hi, Woke.
I know what you mean, I bent down to tie my shoes laces and when I stood up there was a lady cock in my face.

Iused2BanOptimist · 13/01/2019 22:32

Speaking of fury, today I had to google was a furry was. I was quite surprised.
Yes I misread fury as furry and thought that was not the group for me!
You certainly learn a lot here that you often wish you had stayed ignorant of. When the women on FWR talk about babies and nappies they are often having a very different conversation to the ones on other boards at Mumsnet. ConfusedGrin
Welcome.

LangCleg · 13/01/2019 22:33

Welcome to the radicalisation portal, Woke!

SpareRibFem · 13/01/2019 22:57

Since peaktransing properly about a year ago I've learnt about kinks and seen sights I'd have much preferred to remain ignorant about. Sad

When I started trying to get to grips with what was going on I'd click on twitter profiles if someone had tweeted something about the topic I didn't understand to try and learn more and a couple of times unwittingly found myself face to face with trans porn Shock I felt like I wanted to wash my brain in bleach 🤢 I quickly learnt to be much more careful about what profiles I clicked on Blush

Welcome woke I think the same thing happened to a lot of us to be honest. Please sign the petition linked above if you can we are desperately trying to get the last couple of hundred signatures together so it can be reviewed by the government

blockedbywho · 13/01/2019 23:09

Welcome, Woke, I've just followed you on Twitter Smile Many, many people to follow, twitter and MN are where I get most of the latest on this giant WTF.

AmoraObscura · 13/01/2019 23:11

Not nearly enough women actually mind

GrinitchSpinach · 13/01/2019 23:22

Is there a name for a flock/gaggle/meeting/critical mass of nearly menopausal women?

I feel this is the right place to quote Absolutely Fabulous: "No, still very much menstrual, thank you, sweetie!"

Still happy to counted as part of the fury, though. Grin

Yeahnahyeah · 13/01/2019 23:26

I know what you mean, I bent down to tie my shoes laces and when I stood up there was a lady cock in my face
Oh Chestergray, I needed a belly laugh.

Yeahnahyeah · 13/01/2019 23:27

Also I don't understand Biscuit ?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2019 23:34

The Biscuit derives from a webchat in which Gordon Brown wouldn't say what his favourite biscuit was. This caused much derision and was perhaps one of the first 'Mumsnet stories' to make it into the wider media. The biscuit is deployed as a 'poor effort' signifier (but occasionally just as a biscuit).

Yeahnahyeah · 13/01/2019 23:41

Thank you Errol.
