Munroe Is at it again claiming womanhood is whatever you say it is Hmm.

The replies are all in favour of them being utterly ridiculous.

'Feminist = a person who believes in & stands up for the political, economic, and social equality of human beings.

Actually, that's the definition of a humanist, not a feminist, but I guess working for women's rights doesn't mean anything unless men get something too, right?'

That's not a definition of a 'humanist' ('Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence over acceptance of dogma or superstition') - 'egalitarian' maybe.

Defining 'feminism' without using the word 'female' or 'woman' is ridiculous.

True, it's closer to civil libertarian than humanist, but the Libertarians have really screwed that pooch and no one knows what civil libertarian means any more.

Feminism is the advancement of women's rights and standing in society.

I was looking up TehBewilderness's rules.

5th rule of misogyny: WATM! [What about the Men] Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.

That seems to fit.

I hate the whole "words change meaning over time, get over it"

"Womanhood is whatever we want to define it as but we can't define the word woman because we'd be forced to admit that without referencing biology we're only left with stereotypes"

Vegilante · 07/01/2019 01:03

Thinking about this newest attempt by a misogynist TRA to redefine woman & womanhood "out of existence", I was reminded today that back in the dark ages when I was in uni, I wrote an article for my school's alumni magazine about odd & funny things you could find in the library. One of the anecdotes concerned what I found when I looked up the word "man" & "woman" in the card catalogue (this was circa 1979-80):

The card "man" had a long list of items, starting with anthropology & art & going right through civilization, culture, engineering, humans, mankind, science & so on.

The card "woman" said only this: see also mothers, prostitutes/whores.

The editor thought I was making this up, the result of my feminist axe to grind, so he sent a photographer to shoot pics of the cards, which were exactly as I'd described. The photo of the cards was prominently featured in the story, which was written in a lighthearted way & turned out to be pretty funny. As a result, I got a lot of letters from alums (all male because the school had only recently admitted women) saying, (paraphrasing), "I never understood what you women's libbers were complaining about. But seeing those two cards, maybe you gals have a point."

This is the sort of history & "lived experience" that boobs-for-brains Munroe B can't even imagine.

There is a direct correlation between thinking women = non-men and men thinking that the word women means whatever they say it does.

Same old misogyny, but this one wears extensions and bras

Just went to place an order on Amazon and realised that the charity that I had chosen to benefit from the cashback scheme they run was UN Women. Have changed that to a local women's aid shelter now, which seems a more women-focused charity.
