"[P]utting LGBT people’s needs at the heart of the NHS": Government spokesman

What a ridiculous comment: to put any particular group at the heart of the NHS - apart from the most sick, disabled or suffering of course - seems to go against its very ethos.

Has someone just made a payment to MM or is she always like this.

Its shocking, ive changed the details slightly...child was younger than ive stated

Needmoresleep · 03/01/2019 16:01

Yes, that was the one.

As with US content, I have no idea about the organisation is organising the seminar and what their motivation is. I think it was linked on a thread about the Mermaids people attending some US conference, with various people advocating early transtion for children. It provided a useful counterbalance. As with many things, what seems like a good idea in your teens, may well coime back and bite you. Medical transition being a particularly big thing to go on a regret later.

It is important to note that even long term transexuals who do not appear to regret their decision, often warn that it is not a decision to be taken lightly and so openly oppose self-ID.

There is so much that we simply do not know. I wish money was being put into sensible, open-minded and peer reviewavble research. Perhaps the Big Lottery Fund might find themselves with £500,000 that they could reallocate.

SarahCarer · 03/01/2019 16:13

To me it seems quite obvious that what MM has in mind is the repeated use of a soundbite "of course we will ensure that single sex spaces are protected. We are very clear on that point" There is literally no more to it than that. No substance.

Datun · 03/01/2019 16:24

No substance.

Agreed. She can't keep rapists out, ffs.

KittiesInsane · 03/01/2019 16:29

So is she now saying that school loos and changing rooms must remain single-sex? And will she be 'very clear' on this to the schools (and to GIRES, who have been telling them otherwise)?

Datun · 03/01/2019 16:38

Is she going to talk about the criteria for a GRC and what that gives you access to? And if that criteria intersects with murder and raping, what happens then?

TimeLady · 03/01/2019 16:38

I'm trying to imagine being a transman several years down the hormone route, possibly with beard, lying back on the couch awaiting the speculum. I always wear a long floaty skirt (kept specifically for the occasion) which at least gives me a modicum of dignity.

I have no experience of what's involved in a prostate exam but I can't imagine that's particularly validating either.

If a male has hormone treatment to increase breasts, will they require mammograms further down the line? Excuse my ignorance of this.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 03/01/2019 16:40

My advice to ministers is that they should be clear that there is no threat to single-sex services, they are clearly protected in law and they need to be clearer on that,” she said.

And you know (as we've repeatedly explained this to you) that's lying bollocks, Maria, we said.

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 16:49

There is no stuffing this hideous genie back in the bottle as many organisations have gone full steam ahead as if self id is already a thing.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 03/01/2019 16:56

MM still means 'protect single sex spaces' with a hidden codicil of: (but TWAW so belong in women's single sex spaces).

feministfairy · 03/01/2019 16:57

You transphobes you lot Grin This is what the NHS is for:

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-6554031/Transgender-woman-shave-twice-day-says-NHS-mucking-peoples-lives.html

And the comments are all united!!

VickyEadie · 03/01/2019 17:02

As one of the L in LGBT (blah blah) - though I no longer associate myself with any organisation or group that is so misogynistic - I'm interested to hear what specific health issues I'm meant to have that all other women don't have that mean I need to be centred in NHS provision more than het people..

theOtherPamAyres · 03/01/2019 17:04

there is no threat to single-sex services

Politicians keep mentioning SERVICES as though we are only worried about the loss of services.

They haven't been listening, or they are pretending that they don't see any other reason why women are angry. It's not just the threat to services: it's about removing the right of men to call themselves women, girls and lesbians. I don't recognise gender. It's not a thing.

When a political party starts to take reality on board, I might vote for them. In the meantime, this is not going away. On the contrary - a head of steam is building.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 03/01/2019 17:12

I see the person referred to in the Mail article is another who works in IT

ChewyLouie · 03/01/2019 17:23

Knicknack, I agree MM is using the inclusive definition of single sex. She needs to reissue her statement using biological single sex or it is meaningless.

nails2018 · 03/01/2019 18:31

Hmm, I wonder if a prelim analysis of the GRA survey has been carried out and it shows that most respondents came out against self ID?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 03/01/2019 18:47

Same as you Vicky - An L, although one who will no longer associate with named LGBT as a group as it no longer means anything that represents or includes me or homosexuality. In fact, quite the opposite.

Also dying to know why I need to be 'centred' in the nhs, and indeed why any one group's needs should ever be 'centred' in any public service.

Ereshkigal · 03/01/2019 18:53

Thank you Need and Vegilante for the Rene Jax link. Very good. More people should see it.

OldPosterNewUsername · 03/01/2019 18:59

I broke my back in 2009 and take pain medications for times a day.

A more suitable alternative would be a pain killing patch worn for a week at a time.

Unfortunately the CCG in my area won't pay the £28 a month that it costs.

My only option is to go private at an initial cost of £600 and monthly costs of £300.

To be honest I am pissed off that because I an just an everyday person, no one will fight my cause like Mermaids fight the trans cause.

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 19:24

nails I wondered the same. The timescale would fit.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 03/01/2019 20:23

I’d like to think it was about the GRA consultation but suspect the bigger influence is the criticism in the right ring media for Tories supporting self id at all and it not being a vote winner

womanformallyknownaswoman · 03/01/2019 20:31

oldposter

It really sucks you are being through such indignity, stress and what I imagine is chronic, unrelenting pain and distress- I think being angry 😡 is a normal response in your situation, especially with no vociferous support plus with Mermaids and TG agenda getting funding and attention. I don’t know what to suggest...Sad - Flowers

Needmoresleep · 03/01/2019 23:56

It has just struck me.

Lots of concern for the odd transman who has both decided to register with the GP as a male and is then incapable of picking up the phone and requesting a smear test.

No concern at all for women who, because of their cultural/religious backgrounds, or as a result of earlier trauma, decide to skip smear tests because the NHS cannot confirm that these will not be carried out by a transwoman.

Inequality?

Vegilante · 04/01/2019 06:26

Need your points nailed it.

KittiesInsane · 04/01/2019 08:00

I was wondering if they’re saying that transmen have requested a same gender nurse for the smear test and found that there are no men available.
