Is there a way to find out which schools Mermaids do 'training' at?

Really want to make sure my children's school isn't one of them.

Great question, it will help to identify the areas most saturated.

TeatimeCloud · 23/12/2018 20:46

I don’t know. Maybe ask the school if they are considering it.

WrathofRancidKlopp · 23/12/2018 20:47

We need to be careful not to out ourselves by announcing local schools.

OnAScaleOf1to10ItsA7 · 23/12/2018 20:50

Oh no, don't get specific about localities. I just wondered if they put it up on their own website or something.

I'll just ask my kids' school when it opens again.

Just stumbled on this thread- what is 'mermaids?' I'm assuming you don't mean actual fish ones...

WrathofRancidKlopp · 23/12/2018 21:02

Try this

Some schools are specifically referring to sex.

Fab, thanks.

All parents should ask in school.
If the school has Mermaids coming in then Janice Turner's Times article is a great one to give to the Head. And very regrettably (because some of their homophobic bullying materials are great) if Stonewall are involved then parents need to be checking that the school is following safeguarding procedures. Sadly Stonewall now openly employ someone on their trans advisory group who is being investigated for employing a pedophile. Therefore schools need to ensure due diligence and check that anyone from that organisation advising their school has a DBS check.

I don't think they've come down to my neck of the woods yet (Kent). But DS is due to have a "Diversity Day" at the end of this academic year - and I will be very interested at who is delivering the training. If it's going to be "boys can have periods too" anti-scientific nonsense - well, let's just say he will have a minor stomach upset that day, and I will raising concerns with the school management. I'm not having him brainwashed by this crap. He is aware of, and laughs, at 'furries', so I think I'm doing ok so far Wink

You should be made aware of any external trainers visiting the school, so just keep an eye on it.

Iused2BanOptimist · 23/12/2018 21:13

Anyone got GC teens? They could be excellent spies, record training on their phones and throw in a few tricky questions.
The opportunity to tie the presenter in knots is surely a gift. Grin

ToeToToe · 23/12/2018 21:20

Yes, my teens are gender critical. I must admit, I thought of getting DS14 to attend said diversity day, and recording it somehow. I want to know what they're being told - because if it's anything like the Mermaids training session, then we need to know.

Yeahnahyeah · 23/12/2018 21:20

We will eventually find out which schools, when the stats on trans identifying kids are collated and show skewing at those schools. Then later, maybe the stats of suicide ideation, attempts, with these kids will in reality nudge closer to the bullshit being so recklessly and falsely thrown around now, as said kids awake from the cult that is TRA. Sad

WomanLifeIsGoodish · 23/12/2018 21:31

I emailed my DSs school last Thursday to ask exactly that. No reply as yet but it was near the end of term. That Times article was fortuitous in timing - I’ll send in a link to that too ready for the Well Being lead to read on her return!

If they are using Mermaids resources, I will be raising awareness within the parent community. The demographic round here would not react well to the reinforcement of sexist stereotypes.

Iused2BanOptimist · 23/12/2018 21:46

ToetoToe Your son must go. And ask lots of questions. You can prepare him with a list. Just constantly asking what cis means for a start. (McKinnon tweeted a very cross tweet about Jane Garvey doing this, one of the reasons TM bottled going on woman's hour).
If he's got a like minded friend or two they can have fun. Wink

Macareaux · 23/12/2018 22:59

Mermaids aren't the only organisation doing this. There are TIE and Educate and Celebrate and more. It's endemic.

And there is GIRES which produces this gem of a resource for young people: cdn0.genderedintelligence.co.uk/2012/11/17/17-14-04-GI-sexual-health-booklet.pdf

WrathofRancidKlopp · 23/12/2018 23:07

Maca
Oh that's grim

RedToothBrush · 24/12/2018 10:40

Surely you could FOI your local authority asking which schools have mermaids trained at and which have sessions they intend to train at in the next three months?

Neurotrash · 24/12/2018 11:43

I'd contact the LEA directly.

For example, No Outsiders is an EA programme that's been written by a teacher.

The content is all delivered through stories. The stories specifically chosen for trans things (including one for ks1) aren't great though the rest is. My local lea have been trained by him and there was training for teachers, then the program was rolled out as part of a city wide diversity project.

So it's worth exploring higher up as it might be coming from levels higher than the school.

starcrossedseahorse · 24/12/2018 12:19

OMG that Gires book. WTAF?

starcrossedseahorse · 24/12/2018 12:21

The pics...

sackrifice · 24/12/2018 12:46

Wut?

What is that a hand or a penis?

sackrifice · 24/12/2018 12:46

Sponsored by the National Lottery...of course.

sackrifice · 24/12/2018 12:47

If I had kids I'd be home schooling, this is outrageous.

TinyTimAndBob · 24/12/2018 12:55

Grooming a sex obsession in children. There are other interests in life, this is very basic behaviour.

ToeToToe · 24/12/2018 17:17

That is not a hand.
