Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Reddit moved to ban criticism of the trans movement

QuietContraryMary · 19/12/2018 01:37

Context:
Reddit has had forums on anything and everything in the past including underage girls, Nazism etc. Slowly they have moved to ban paedophilia and hate speech

The bans have left the gendercritical forum as prime target to be banned , and it is listed prominently among hate sites activists want banned along with far right, Donald Trump etc.

Now several posts have been removed there for naming a Canadian transgender paedophile and his transgender associates who campaign against rape shelters, for s&m in women's marches and other behaviour informed by their visceral hatred of women. Not only that, the poster has been permanently banned from Reddit.

Such bans and removals are an essential precursor to permament banning of the whole community something which is inevitable given the woke bro community on Reddit. This follows bans on similar content on Twitter, WordPress and others as well as arrests, injunctions, human rights tribunals other acts by child abusers, trolls and other unsavoury individuals. The intention is to silence and criminalise all criticism on all content

I've been wondering when the gender critical subreddit is going to be banned. It's a prime target. Meanwhile, pedophiles and their apologists are all over that site and show up to defend and minimise every time child abuse is discussed and aren't deleted or banned. It's disgusting. Reddit is now a joke of a site

BubonicTheHedgehag · 19/12/2018 01:58

Arseholes seem to be in the ascendant, currently.

I'd say stay strong, feminist women who know the truth!

Men are not women.

Neurotrash · 19/12/2018 06:38

Reddit's very male centric.

Even the skin care addicts seem to be mostly men.

Quelle surprise.

Viva la mn!

Qcng · 19/12/2018 08:53

If the gender critical sub-Reddit gets banned, surely people could post gender critical views on other sub-Reddits? Then the posts might get more traffic anyway?

Ereshkigal · 19/12/2018 08:54

Reddit is a misogynistic cesspit. So very typical that they don't believe women have free speech.

Womantheonlykind · 19/12/2018 09:06

Reddit is MRA central, host to much revolting red pill discussion and hostile strategising.

It is remarkable that you can see a poster object to a feminist thread and look them up to see that their entire posting history is based around commenting on women's appearance etc. I reckon it is too big to censor and if not then they ought to get shot of all the offensive stuff (which would leave it empty).

Reddit has some good mainstream areas but the dark ones are grim and so prevalent they are hard to avoid. Hopefully it will always keep the same format because you can easily get the measure of someone from their posting history.

Controversy creates traffic, every click feeds the money maker. All social media wants objectionable content for this reason only.

"If the gender critical sub-Reddit gets banned, surely people could post gender critical views on other sub-Reddits? Then the posts might get more traffic anyway?"

No not really.

Basically Reddit is divided by topic, so you have a forum for computers, one for labradors, one for heroin, etc. Obviously if you post about transgender issues in the labrador forum then it will be deleted. And if you post in a general news forum then they will say it's transphobic and it won't see the light of day.

Also most of the feminism forums are moderated by people with penises, so you won't get on there either. A specific gender-critical forum is the only place to post such content.

Reddit isn't the wild West. It's more and more mainstream. It isn't "free speech" site either.
I'm not sure what it is now but it's becoming less and less relevant.
Of course the problem with free speech sites is that they take on the flavour of whoever is most distasteful and posts there. Hence Gab is Nazi, 4chan is Nazi, etc.
The dark web is all drugs, guns and bitcoin losses.
It seems as soon as a free speech environment pops up, it gets tainted, and is never seen as neutral. It may be because of who is drawn there, or it may be there are vested interests in maintaining the view that free speech is hate speech, and regulating what we say is the status quo.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 19/12/2018 09:42

What's "red pill"?

FlyingOink · 19/12/2018 09:58

CaptainKirksSpookyghost it's a reference to "The Matrix". The red pill takes you out of a dreamland and into harsh, cruel reality.
In reference to women it's basically misogyny masquerading as some big reveal.

FlyingOink · 19/12/2018 09:59

And there was a long running subreddit called the red pill, which was incel central

MagicMix · 19/12/2018 09:59

Reddit is at least 50% cesspit. It is very male-centric and male-dominated - even the subreddits that are specifically supposed to be devoted to women or feminism or even lesbians I have heard. Or perhaps especially these, as they attract misogynists for obvious reasons.

The mods on gender critical have to be extremely active because porn/prostitution/pedophilia/transactivism apologists are constantly trying to derail and ruin everything. It's the only subreddit I've ever seen that is unapologetically and uncompromisingly female-centric (I hear there is also a subreddit for lesbians that does not include men, but haven't read it myself). Men are allowed to post in good faith but what-about-the-men tactics and other misogyny and dreailing are not tolerated.

If you tried to post the same content in other areas of Reddit I think it would either be deleted or any actual feminist discussion would immediately be buried by a tidal wave of misogyny. Gender Critical is a very rare oasis on that site - the radfem mods are unfortunately completely necessary for the discussion to even take place at all.

Thanks to GC I know every slimy detail about the Canadian man who I am not sure I am allowed to name on here but I think we all know - and so do thousands of other people. I know what he looks like, I know his name and his alias, I know a large number of disgusting things he has done. I think GC is a huge target for banning but the cat is well and truly out of the bag on that guy's identity. I really hope he doesn't manage to take the whole community down.

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 11:04

In all honesty the only possible place on reddit to express gender critical views, if gender critical sub reddit is deleted, would be the true crime type sub reddits. I think one is called r/unresolved mysteries. Of course you could only really discuss violence against women and have some dudes do the usual NAMALT.

It really is such a male centric website (I say this as a woman that generally gets on ok with men) it's so blatantly misogynist I avoid it. Especially when I discovered their protection of (supposedly deleted) paedophile sub reddits.

One possible way to have a gender critical discussion would be maybe if a few gc podcasts have a thread under a podcast sub reddit. It would have to be subtle otherwise probably end up brigaded (Ha still know some of the reddit lingo). Or else maybe make (again) a subtle thread or comment on stories if there's a sub reddit for your city/town?

I can't believe I need to suggest subterfuge in 2018. Feeling Nancy Wake vibes.

ChristmassyContessaConSparkles · 19/12/2018 11:08

Dana I have previously thought that the only way to hold a women-only gathering (and to ensure that it is only women with vaginas) would be to call it a 'swap-meet to chat and discuss household cleaning techniques for busy working mummies' (horrible term intentional).

I guarantee you it would be penis repellent!

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 11:17

True. You would also need to promote it as homemade non toxic cleaning products.

MagicMix · 19/12/2018 11:34

That's the genius of 'Mumsnet' as a title for a website. Couldn't have picked a better title if you wanted to keep a website female dominated.

I honestly just mentioned it recently in front of my father and he pulled a face like it was beyond contempt. Despite being married to a mum and the father of a mum. Some misogynists have realised we discuss sexual politics and feminism here, but most just hear the name and assume it's wall-to-wall chat about our babies' nap schedules.

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 11:46

In fairness I actually would have thought the same thing. When I first saw the name Mumsnet I assumed it was similar to websites like essential baby. By the time I'd seen it my boys were older and I didn't feel I needed child rearing advice or baby sleeping tips.

What caught my attention was a thread popped up when googling about the Rose McGowan drama. I checked it out and... well wow not what I expected at all. Lurked for a while then decided to throw my GC hat in the ring.

hypnotizzz · 19/12/2018 11:52

Aarrrrghh
I just made the mistake of looking at MGTOW on Reddit. It reads like a comedy sketch. Suddenly I love all the normal men in my life a little bit more.

BlooperReel · 19/12/2018 12:05

I peeped at the MGTOW section too, Jesus H Christ.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/12/2018 12:09

MGTOW is an odd mix of comically batshit and terrifying.

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 12:18

Well damn. I was on reddit for a while and never dared go there. Gin for you brave women. From just what I've seen on ther parts of reddit you're probably gonna need it.

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 12:18

*other

BlooperReel · 19/12/2018 12:23

I could read it in wide eyed horror/fascination all day, but some of the stuff on their is stomach churning, I am astounded there are so many men who truly seem to believe women are incapable of independent thought.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/12/2018 12:27

You could sum the whole movement up as "I hate women, why don't they want to suck my cock and wash my socks for me?"

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 12:31

Yeah I don't have proof but I suspect the incel movement has it's roots there.
