Gender conversion therapy

Am seeing a lot of posts surrounding Mermaids and the national lottery funding.

I cannot believe that mums would be so hostile to an organisation that helps children.

I wish in my day Mermaids existed as they could have helped me from the conversion therapy I endured

If they advocate medicalisation then it should be via the medical establishment. Not via do gooders (again Kids Company were full of good intentions) or self-appointees with potential dubious agendas.

QUOTE: Is it as simple as the fact that girls see the male dominated society we are in and feel that they need to be male to get ahead ?

Perhaps, but that was true 5 years ago and there was not the same number of girls identifying as boys. It has always been around a quarter of trans cases. Not three quarters. That is a big shift in a short time. We should be asking why.

Something else may well be pushing the numbers up and up and more specially with girls than boys.

The factors you suggest are probably important. But the bigger question is whether the visibility of trans children on social media is creating a ripple effect that is almost becoming a social contagion. Because that should not mean treating all these cases as 'real'.

Before we start assuming these are just more of the same being brought into the open by more discussion of trans matters I think we need a proper independent study into what is really happening.

The worst thing we can do is assume there is nothing else occurring and wrongly treat the new cases as the same as the ones before.

Shifts in data call for a broader assessment but some trans activists seem to think evaluation into causes is automatically some kind of intrusion.

When we are dealing with children I would call it essential.

Historically in my view there have always been more girls branded "tomboys" than boys who have been labelled in the same way. In childhood my view is that girls tend to be more gender non conforming that boys.

Recent years I believe are seeing a push for "tomboys" to be labelled as transgender and rather than have the young person raise issue themselves with gender identity we are actively going out looking and introducing the idea to girls.
