Long time lurker, first time poster. This link was shared on one of my networks today and it’s very useful - unpicking various claims by trans activists including that half of trans children attempt suicide or that sex attacks by ‘never happen’.

I’d love to see this expanded to cover some more of the common batshit TRA claims, such as ‘intersex is as common as being ginger’.

Ginger people seem pretty common if you live in the UK, Ireland, the US and Australia, so this claim makes intersex conditions seem common too - after all, the numbers ARE similar, and we all know several ginger people, right?

However, when you look at the global population and see how few ginger people there are in African and Asian countries, you realise that even if intersex people and ginger people do occur at the same rate, both are statistically unusual worldwide.

Ginger people do not prove that ‘sex is a spectrum’.

Also, if you wanted to, you could actively breed more ginger people, increasing the population numbers ‘- you can’t do this with disorders of sexual development, especially as lots of the conditions under the ‘intersex’ header cause infertility.

(I say this as a ginger person who married a ginger person and had a ginger baby. My non-ginger baby (different father) has autism spectrum disorder, so I am also well aware that having a medically diagnosed developmental ‘disorder’ does not make you a lesser human being, just a variation.
Equally, having gender dysphoria doesn’t make you a lesser human being, nor does it make you a special exemption from sex based classifications)

Anyone else got a favourite batshit claim they’d like to see debunked?

That because some women have hysterectomies and are still women, so transwomen who also don't have wombs are similarly women.

Its incredibly offensive to women.
Particularly painful for those for whom this surgery was a medical neccessity at a young age and so may also be connected with infertility.
Its also really bad logic.

This was asserted by TRAs Rebecca Root on Victoria Derbyshire & Munroe Bergdorf on Channel 4's Gender Quake Debate. Neither host, Victoria Derbyshire or Cathie Newman challenged it

See also the claims on social media, including this board by males who appropriate these uniquely female experiences without respect, empathy or care.

Betty

Anyone else got a favourite batshit claim they’d like to see debunked?

Sadly all the "usual suspects" I play my daily "TRA Twitter Bingo" with have been debunked - however I honestly hadn't heard about the intersex/ginger people claim before. I mean really?!?

I also love your turn of phrase insofar as " you could actively breed more ginger people..." my painkiller-addled brain suddenly made a connection with Conservation/Breeding programs and it made me giggle somewhat. Blush

  • that the trans community is the most 'marginalised'

'Marginalised' is a word that gets bandied about and accepted, but does anyone know what it means and what the trans community mean by the term?

And is it true?

Many people see the campaign for transgender 'acceptance' as being identical to the campaigns around acceptance of same sex orientation. But are they the same things?

I'm reminded of something said by Dawn Butler MP in a speech, about a new "section 28" *

Butler said:

*When I hear talk about re-introducing another form of section 28 for the trans community, I think – you’ve got to be kidding,”

“All of that pain that a whole community went through, you want to put another community through that pain? Why the hell would you do that? It’s outrageous.

“So we have to stand up and fight against that, and campaign against that and make sure it never happens*

  • Section 28 (for our younger MNetters) was a piece of legislation introduced by the Thatcher, Conservative government in the 1980s. It made it illegal for local authorities to intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality". It stayed on the statute books until 2003^

For a minority or oppressed group they are literally the loudest, most paid attention to and accommodated group ever...

Gets tiring hearing that they are marginalised... they have the world bending backwards imo

Safeguarding comes second
Science comes second
Equality comes second
Education comes second

Ginger people and intersex people have never had the world bow down in this way to them, or ever asked...

R0wantrees · 13/12/2018 16:39

*When I hear talk about re-introducing another form of section 28 for the trans community, I think – you’ve got to be kidding,”

I think this 'talk' came from the blog that Emma Healey did about Mumsnet members being 'transphobic'
It included a post by someone who was advocating for trans-rights and said sarcastically, 'you could call for a new section 28' taken out of context

The idea and claim has been shared, re-tweeted and absorbed by many people, including those with political influence.
(the libdem LGBT+ twitter account pushed this a lot, especially after EH withdrew her blog piece)

Safeguarding comes second
Science comes second
Equality comes second
Education comes second

I would amend that to:

Safeguarding comes second.
Science comes third.
Equality comes fourth.
Education comes fifth.
Women come last.

^^ agreed!

They literally don't care at all whether or not any of these claims are true so long as they are picked up. Fake news is news.
