Period poverty / 'bleeders'

"
❤️Jane Austen was a Super Plus fan, Lizzie preferred a Mooncup + Emma didn't leave Hartfield without her Thinx. But some bleeders in the UK can't afford sanitary products, imagine the scandal at the ball!💃🏽 Donate to @bloodygood__ this Festive Period & help someone's #flowhoho❣️"

Very disappointing. I can't believe we are back in the Middle Ages so comprehensively.
And no, using 'bleeder' is not "more inclusive" because it includes trans men. It is massively, massively reducing women to a (distasteful and historically considered 'impure') bodily function.

Can I start referring to men as "standuppissers"?

Wow... the founder of the charity in question has retweeted MBergdof in which she(MB) has a go at “terfs”.

Women who use "inclusive" language side with misogynists. What a shocker!

EeebyMum · 12/12/2018 09:20

She’s actually endorsing the use of terf and calling others .
‘fucking bullies’. God she is the worst this woman.

GodThisIsShit · 12/12/2018 09:33

Her twitter responses are not what I’d expect from someone running a charity. She literally tells people to F off.

Yes it's an interesting PR strategy. I can only assume nobody is advising them on this or that they've hired Millwall FC who have just told them to go with the "Nobody Likes Us We Don't Care" approach.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/12/2018 09:34

She's blocked me.

stillathing · 12/12/2018 09:40

Yes. I started out thinking it was a more benign "must include transmen and non binaries" type thing. Fine as an aim although very much out of step with the refugees they collect for who would be able to tell you that the concept of identifying your way out of female oppression whilst in a camp is even more laughable than it is here.

But it appears this charity is founded by actively misogynist. I'm sorry but now I do have to question their overall aim. Are they using the refugees as a shield from behind which to further this anti science ideology whereby a group of humans (of any gender) who are linked by having the same female anatomy must not be allowed to be named or described as a group? Only by separate functions or bodily parts -bleeders, cervix havers, etc - because that serves to confuse and exclude some females whilst never upsetting the menz.

stillathing · 12/12/2018 09:45

I'm sorry it's the other end of the same continuum as the Oxfam aid scandal for me. Very sad to see a female behind this and extra extra sad to see the involvement of the lovely (seriously check out the Griefcast podcast) Cariad Lloyd.

ArcheryAnnie · 12/12/2018 09:54

Just caught up on this. Fucking hell, the vibrator comment - it's the old "feminists are only feminists because they are ugly and frigid and need a good lay" trope, isn't it?

Notevenmyrealname · 12/12/2018 10:07

As a relatively new person to all this transgender stuff, I didn’t know who Munroe Bergdorf was so have just spent ten mins on Google, and now I’m confused by the tweet criticising women who conform to gender stereotypes while being an actual walking gender stereotype.

DrudgeJedd · 12/12/2018 10:13

stillathing I don't think that BGP has decided on this position as an matter of ideology. It looks to me like the immature reflex of people who believe themselves to be good because they are doing a good thing therefore any criticism is a bad thing from bad people. They've reacted in a similar way every time this subject comes up. There's a lot of this lazy "I identify as one of the good guys" thinking about now, left leaning politics is rife with it. It's self-centred, devisive and lacks introspection; just what the charitable sector needs more of eh?Hmm

VickyEadie · 12/12/2018 10:20

I’m confused by the tweet criticising women who conform to gender stereotypes while being an actual walking gender stereotype.

Ah, welcome to the land of 'I can't believe that people actually say that shite/but that's entirely oxymoronic/say what now?'

The looking-glass land in which the trans ideologues exist involves the co-existing positions (Schroedinger's trans ideology, if you will) that gender stereotypes are bad and gender stereotypes trump biological sex.

adultFemaleElf · 12/12/2018 10:31

What DrudgeJedd just said.

People are not one dimensional and doing good things (as the founder clearly does) does not or should not absolve you from all criticism of anything else you may do or say.

She has expressed misogynistic views against women that don’t agree with her and that cannot be excused because at the same time she runs a charity that does good work for other women.
These tweets will come back to haunt her when/if her profile grows.

By the way she was confeatured with MB in an article in a few newspapers about 6 women that are doing stuff.

adultFemaleElf · 12/12/2018 10:32

co-featured not confeatured

stillathing · 12/12/2018 10:40

Hope you are right drudg

It pisses me off because as the right kind of feminist (ie not a feminist) she will get the funding and get to represent women and worryingly refugee women. And I'm sorry but colluding with this "female reproductive system is transphobic" stuff is a world away from wishing to make sure your literature includes transmen etc.

GreenHats · 12/12/2018 10:56

I'd love to see the accounts for this charity. They seem to be making a lot of noise for not a great deal in terms of contributions and similar charities all seem to be contributing to the same goal and funnel I get through the same route. I wonder how many women they've actually helped and whether each of these links along the way are claiming the same people helped?

GreenHats · 12/12/2018 10:57

'Funnel through' no idea why autocorrect put in 'I get'

Popchyk · 12/12/2018 11:21

I don't think it is a charity as such. On the website, it states "Bloody Good Period is currently a project of Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action (CIVA). Centre For Innovation In Voluntary Action Registered charity number 1122095".

CIVA gave BGP £6K last year. It mentions in their annual report last year that the founder of BGP wants to become a paid director of BGP.

I think that there are a lot of such projects and social enterprises that seem to be exempt from standard accounting procedures.

Gendered Intelligence is not a charity, for example. It is a Community Interest Company which involves much less financial reporting than for charities.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/12/2018 11:30

They set their stall out pretty clearly. So much talk about erasure of trans/NB folk, yet they don't seem to realise that what they are actually doing is erasing women.

Popchyk · 12/12/2018 11:51

I'm not sure that they realise that having started out centering both men who identify as women (a lot of whom seem to be seeking out involvement in campaigns for periods) and women who identify as men then they are then stuck with it forevermore.

Every campaign, every word, every action will be scrutinised to ensure that men get their rightful place in the campaign (which is on boards, directorships, media appearances, awards).

The actual work on the ground will still have to be done by old-fashioned women who will find their route to recognition and sparkle much more arduous.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/12/2018 11:58

I really like Cariad Lloyd, but this is horribly misjudged.
Trying to support and girls while being misogynistic ? I think crap like this “bleeders” is what is driving a whole chunk of this generation of girls into believing they should be boys. Our society hates women.
Is this person who has blocked woman a woman ?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/12/2018 11:59

Men don’t come first. They don’t need to mark their territory in event bloody thing on the planet.

And as I’ve always said - if men had periods there would be a ‘cure’ for pmt, really heavy blood flow and bloating.

Pretending to have a period isn’t the same (you still know) - like when you are desperate for a positive pregnancy test and try to convince yourself that you feel pregnant, but deep down you know it’s not true (or a large fart like Queen Mary).

And if you feelz that you are a man and have a period then... drum roll... Mother Nature is giving you a hint.

EeebyMum · 12/12/2018 13:53

Gabby Edlin has deleted her retweet/comment of Monroes tweet, not that that’s the most toxic thing she tweeted in the last 24 hrs.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/12/2018 14:25

🙄🙄🙄

Period poverty / 'bleeders'
PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 12/12/2018 14:43

As if anyone with the level of self-absorption and privilege required to be non-binary would be experiencing period poverty.

“Identifying” as something other than female isn’t something that women and girls who actually experience period poverty have the luxury of indulging. They’re too worried about their asylum application, moving to universal credit, accessing an education or finding basic health care information in a language other than English.

I’m done with all of this now- next time I need to replace my mooncup I’m buying one of those generic menstrual cups from EBay rather than supporting this shit.

adultFemaleElf · 12/12/2018 14:54

Inclusive of men.

They need to finish their sentences.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/12/2018 15:31

Agree Penny.
