First one is an apology from Durham SU to the HUmanist who retweeted the Spectator article (yes that one!)

Second is SNP politicians kicking back

That Mermaids statement has to be a misquote. I'm guessing the words 'the drugs' and 'puberty' have been mixed up.

I thought the same, unless they've decided on a radical change of direction...

I'm not buying that second twitter dog story. The implausibility of the set up (doctrinaire "Action on Trans Health" level of TRA nuttiness happens to be hanging out at dig obedience training at a field somewhere in the country) plus the level of gratuitous but convenient detail (I've trained K9 dogs in the past) just screams troll at me (though I agree with a PP that we're looking at a classic example of Poe's Law here).

Seconded

That dog story is remarkably similar to the 1982 film White Dog :

The film depicts the struggle of a dog trainer named Keys (Paul Winfield), who is black, trying to retrain a stray dog found by a young actress (Kristy McNichol), that is a "white dog"—a dog trained to make vicious attacks upon, and to kill, any black person. Fuller uses the film as a platform to deliver an anti-racist message as it examines the question of whether racism is a treatable problem or an incurable condition.

I've had a look at that Reddit thread. I am gently bemused by what seems to be the emerging TRA consensus, which is that the dog is NOT reacting to the wife's natal sex, but to the "fact" that she is must just be a terrible dog handler with awful training techniques. (Based on no info other than the dog's reaction, of course.)

I probably shouldn't be surprised, but isn't it interesting that it's more acceptable to be told that you've screwed up (ie how you trained/handled the dog), rather than that the dog doesn't recognise your non-physical identity.

I wonder if they’d consider sending the dog to a gulag for better re-training

I also doubt the veracity of the second dog story. Too good to be true.

It reminded me of White Dog too - I actually saw that film when it came out!

Yeah, the second dog story pinged false to me, too.
