First one is an apology from Durham SU to the HUmanist who retweeted the Spectator article (yes that one!)

Second is SNP politicians kicking back

Reminds me of our old dog who didn't like men in general. She was a rescue dog and presumably had had a bad experience in the past before coming to us. She was absolutely fine with women.

It was quite funny the number of times that some blundering bloke would approach, totally ignore my polite "please don't approach her, she'll go for you" and then jump back in horror as our girl, ahem, asserted her boundaries.

She knew what a man was all right.

LemonJello · 30/11/2018 18:21

the dog being scared of my wife is invalidating

That dog needs re-educating. What a fucking bigot.

MsBeaujangles · 30/11/2018 18:40

This is the second time this week I have heard talk of pulling apart the flimsy 'anti trans' arguments - the first was from the person who apologised having seen themselves on the C4 documentary. This seems to be a new thing.

I haven't actually witnessed any 'pulling apart' yet. I am really looking forward to hearing the new arguments - I would welcome having my views challenged.

A colleague of mine had a break through this week. She had been fully sold on the argument that to view TW as male you are denying their existence as transwomen - being male and any kind of women being mutually exclusive. She now recognises that, by the same vein, in viewing transwomen as female, you are denying the existence of females. She finally sees the conflict of interests. She is genuinely feeling very troubled by this.

Bowlofbabelfish · 30/11/2018 18:46

The fact that 'delusional' is used as an insult means it is becoming taboo to mention delusions, but it seems to be increasingly necessary to discuss them.

I’m always careful when I mention delusional thinking on a post here to point out that delusional is a medical term and has a medical meaning, because otherwise I’d probably have been banned and screenshotted all over Twitter.

But to say someone holds a delusional belief actually means something. Of course queer theory and postbloodymodernism would have us chuck every bit of concise terminology out of the window and cry that we are being mean to even suggest someone’s beliefs are delusional. That in itself is worrying - how can we discuss and research if we cannot define?

Babieseverywhere · 30/11/2018 18:54

The Reddit dog link here Off to read it myself.

AgentCooper · 30/11/2018 18:57

I think there is a shift happening - I work at a university and someone (presumably a student) has written 'female is not a feeling' inside all of the ladies toilet stalls in my building.

I was in M&S recently and there was a group of women, who I guessed were in their 40s, discussing how they were worried about self ID. I'd never actually heard it discussed IRL before like that.

RedToothBrush · 30/11/2018 19:04

A dog isn't just for Christmas. It's for transition too.

Or is the life bit redundant if the dog deadwoofs at the owner?

AnyOtherPerson · 30/11/2018 19:17

Do they seriously expect people to believe this disingenuous shite?

I genuinely wonder whether those who are projecting (clear projections here with the suggestion that it’s the GC arguments that are flimsy etc) believe their own lies. I suspect they do, thus they are probably unable to imagine the very idea that the majority do not see things they way they do.

IstanbulConstan · 30/11/2018 19:19

The dog screenshot has peaked me again.

I have it on good authority that Girl Guiding UK is absolutely inundated with complaints and has had to take on extra staff to cope with them.

Wow.

Who matters more - parents with daughters in Girl Guides or Jane Fae and Aimee Challenor?

Omfg pain.

The idiocy is excruciating.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/11/2018 20:25

"So little pro trans material"? Unless every media outlet guaranteed that trans news would be their front page story every single day I'm not sure how much more pro trans coverage it would be possible for them to put out.

I guess maybe it looks like not much coverage to a raging narcissist? In that other stories are also covered, and that's not fair.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 30/11/2018 23:19

I downloaded these two screenshots from the twitter thread that mentioned the invalidating dog that couldn't discern a transwoman's new identity.

No amount of "pro trans" will be enough, because, as I understand it, deep down changing sex is Impossible, the goal is unobtainable. Disphoria will mean there will always be something that separates trans from the sex they wish to be.

Which is why counseling is a very important thing to have, as it can help keep things in focus.

bluescreen · 01/12/2018 00:33

That bigoted dog... is it a poe? How could we possibly tell?

OldCrone · 01/12/2018 00:43

From the Mail article linked by IstanbulConstan about children buying puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones online.

Mermaids, a charity supporting transgender children, said the drugs ‘can subject a young person to distressing bodily changes that can lead to an increased risk of anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal ideas’.

That's a new line for Mermaids to take. Unless they've been misquoted, in which case it would be difficult for them to correct it without it looking as though they support children buying these drugs online.

Also a quote from the Tavistock mentioning detransition.

‘It is incredibly dangerous to buy these online,’ said the spokesperson, who pointed out that many young people later change their mind about changing sex. ‘By getting drugs off the internet, adolescents may start on a path they don’t want to tread later on.’

AgnesBadenPowell · 01/12/2018 01:17

@PeachCokeZero that's very interesting. Since the updated trans policy was posted on the website two weeks ago, there appears to be new email address and contact numbers specifically to take enquiries in this issue. I assumed they'd recruited a new team to manage this - naturally they won't tell me.

Of course, they could put that money into funding a proper review and conducting thorough research, risk and impact assessments. Maybe even ask a few parents or girls how they feel. We know 86% of girls in GG believe that no one should be discriminated against for being trans - and I think we'd all agree. But it's a bit of a reach to then say 86% of girls are fine sleeping next to or changing in front of a person with a penis.

AgnesBadenPowell · 01/12/2018 01:20

Also interesting that there's still no word on the CEO. The last one left in June. GG was recruiting externally - they even placed an ad (via their recruitment agent) in the Sunday times executive appointments website Grin

The deadline for applications was mid October. If they don't announce anything soon I'll assume they can't find anyone. Maybe I should apply?

Thingybob · 01/12/2018 01:33

That Mermaids statement has to be a misquote. I'm guessing the words 'the drugs' and 'puberty' have been mixed up.

hackmum · 01/12/2018 08:03

Just looked at the Reddit thread. Apparently they’ve deleted all the “transphobic” comments. By which I suppose they mean the ones that are based in reality or common sense.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 01/12/2018 08:38

The transphobic dog is just ... well, I don't know, I have no words.
