Exited prostituted women

rebeccamott · 22/11/2018 16:47

I have decided to join Mumsnet - though I have no children. I am exited prostituted woman, who did indoors and now I am Abolitionist.
I am interested in the long-term future, over 2/3 years, in setting a meeting or conference which will foreground the multiple voices of exited women. It would lovely to set up a team of women who are interested in this.
I have been fighting for abolition, and for greater understanding of the impact of trauma on the prostituted, for almost 15 years through my blog and giving talks. I also have many international contacts with Abolitionist groups and other exited women.

Welcome Smile

NoseringGirl · 22/11/2018 16:56

Welcome to MN. Sounds like you're channeling your own traumatic experiences into something productive to help other women. Wishing you all the best with your work!

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 22/11/2018 16:57

Rachelover40, how rude are you?

BigotedWoman · 22/11/2018 16:57

Rachel I think it's exited as in she has exited prostitution.

Welcome OP.

AdorableMisfit · 22/11/2018 16:58

Rachel - I think it's exited as in exit, i.e. someone who's left prostitution?

FermatsTheorem · 22/11/2018 16:59

rebecca good to "meet" you, and I shall be following this thread with interest, as I know there are a lot of posters on MN FWR who have a lot of experience both of having exited prostitution and related areas themselves, or of working with and providing support for marginalised women including women in prostitution.

rebeccamott · 22/11/2018 17:01

I am exited from the sex trade, I did indoors prostitution including girlfriend experience, escorting, working in clubs etc. I am now exposing the conditions in order to get full human rights for the prostituted.

LavenderBush · 22/11/2018 17:08

God, Rachel, even I could work that one out.

Welcome to Mumsnet, rebeccamott.

Rachelover40 · 22/11/2018 17:13

Oh honestly I'm not being rude, I was joking. I just couldn't resist. Please take no notice Rebecca, no offence meant.

Rebecca I've read your blog. Quite interesting. I know a bit about prostitution but wasn't aware a prostitute did not have full human rights if they work independently.

hdh747 · 22/11/2018 17:21

Good to meet you Rebecca.

rebeccamott · 22/11/2018 17:50

Even if a woman works independently, she will have her human broken as a common event. For no man who makes the choice to consume the prostituted have an interest in her safety or whether she can give full consent to whatever he demands. That is why we should focus on the punters and their entitlement, not the individual prostituted person.

Absolutely. That's why I found the "Invisible Men Project" so powerful. So often pro-prostitution types cast everything in terms of the vanishingly rare "Belle du Jour" type and pretend they're all about defending women's rights to make free choices. They never look at the economic background to those "choices", or at the behaviour and choices of the pimps and punters.

FermatsTheorem · 22/11/2018 17:59

BTW, for anyone who's not familiar with it, here is a New Stateman article on the Invisible Men Project, with a link to the actual project itself:

Thirded. Welcome to FWR, rebeccamott - and I wish you the best with this endeavour.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 22/11/2018 18:50

Welcome rebeccamott what a really important project

DidoAndHerLament · 22/11/2018 19:00

Hi Rebecca, pleased you're here - I read your blog and think your writing is really powerful. I agree with you re the importance of understanding trauma and post traumatic stress when working with & supporting prostituted women.

Opheliah · 22/11/2018 20:15

Hello

Ex prostitute here. I have read your work on NordicModelNow and you write very evocatively.

I am a regular on mumsnet under many various names. Have been active on rad-fem issues under various names for many years now. It's always great to come across fellow exited prostitutes who are pro NM.

PM me I would like to support your project x.

MrsTerryPratcett · 22/11/2018 21:31

Sounds like a great project. I've worked with a lot of women working on the street and I've never met that worker who we are told about all the time - happy, empowered, no abuse, no addiction, no pimp, lots of other options.

The men I heard about though? The behaviour? Just horrifying.

traceyracer · 22/11/2018 21:46

I'm also an ex prostitute. I'm undecided what I think the law should be

rebeccamott · 23/11/2018 02:44

I will write again tomorrow, not while my insomnia. If anyone wants me to pm them , please ask, and then I will give my personal details.

Thank you for your work, Rebecca.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/11/2018 23:51

Welcome and just bumping the thread. It is essential that the voices of women like you are heard.
