Exited prostituted women

I have decided to join Mumsnet - though I have no children. I am exited prostituted woman, who did indoors and now I am Abolitionist.
I am interested in the long-term future, over 2/3 years, in setting a meeting or conference which will foreground the multiple voices of exited women. It would lovely to set up a team of women who are interested in this.
I have been fighting for abolition, and for greater understanding of the impact of trauma on the prostituted, for almost 15 years through my blog and giving talks. I also have many international contacts with Abolitionist groups and other exited women.

Thanks for your interest.
I have been interested in organising a conference or several meeting with exited prostituted women and other Abolitionists. I am in very early planning stages.
My main interest is discussing how to build long-term exiting programmes for the prostituted. In discussing the impact of trauma on exited prostituted women. In organising meet-ups for exited women. In exchanging emails or others ways to contact each other for information and support. This is just the tip of an iceberg.
Please if you ideas or need support, contact me on pm.

If you're organizing a conference, I think PTSD needs a lot of focus. So high in women in sex work. And treatable.

Hey Rebecca, we've met Smile - Witchy (in another life) here. You know I'll support you - I always have.

LassWiADelicateAir · 24/11/2018 09:43

Oh honestly I'm not being rude, I was joking. I just couldn't resist

Rachel The obsession about all things trans and the need to shoe horn trans into everything hit a new low if you "couldn't resist" making a pathetic, unfunny joke about a woman who has exited prostitution.

Do you struggle with social situations in RL, Rachel ?

Good luck, Rebecca

Rachelover40 · 24/11/2018 11:11

Not at all. Obviously my attempt at humour sank like a lead balloon!
Oh well, I'm suitably chastened but please can we move on.

AnyFucker · 24/11/2018 11:13

I find it quite tricky to marry up "humour" with rape, ptsd and the wholesale abuse of women.

Ah well, we have all dropped a bollock at some time or other I suppose.

Gildashairflick · 24/11/2018 11:16

@rebeccamott could you pm me please? I don't know how to do it on my phone. I'd like to open a dialogue with you as I work with current and ex prostitutes/sexually exploited people regularly.

rebeccamott · 24/11/2018 13:04

Rachel, please do not worry about it. I was fine with your joke, tbh when you have been prostituted a common reaction is for others to make jokes. It takes loads more than that to offend I understand how awkward it can be.

Bumping

FermatsTheorem · 25/11/2018 09:38

Just bumping this to raise a question about the economics of prostitution and the "it's a job just like any other" myth. The Sunday Times has a number of articles on prostitution today including this one
www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/elana-needs-30-men-a-month-to-pay-the-rent-her-mother-thinks-shes-a-cleaner-ntft2p20r
(sorry, still haven't worked out how to do share tokens).

But the paragraph I want to discuss is this one:
"Elana charges her clients £150 an hour but keeps only £100 because the websites take a cut and send someone round to collect a third of her cash."

So basically, translating that into everyday language, the websites aren't acting as websites, they are in fact pimps, and they send round their enforcers - heavies - to extort a third of a woman's earnings (presumably under threat of violence).

Does this look like, say, a plumber taking out an ad in their local yellow pages or Thompson directory? Do those outlets charge fees amounting to 1/3 of the plumber's earnings? Do they send the heavies round to collect?

I think the economics and the underlying violence of the industry, even the supposedly nice "high end escort working out of a luxury flat and advertising online" end of the industry, needs much more exposure.
