Maybe, just maybe Twitter are catching on. It would seem a series of my tweets were reported and were found not to be in violation of their rules:

Hello,

We have received a complaint regarding your account, for the following content.

Tweet ID: 1064942244640247809
Tweet Text: @BBCNews Yet it can afford to fund this: [url]

Tweet ID: 1064954044538658817
Tweet Text: @BBCWomansHour @Bex_Stinson @helenlewis Perhaps because regrets do happen and this factor is potentially damaging to the ideology? [url]

Tweet ID: 1064175345509810176
Tweet Text: 17 autistic children in one school indoctrinated into believing they are the opposite sex #eugenics Whistleblower teacher makes shocking claim that 'most are autistic' [url] via @MailOnline

Tweet ID: 1064674263922368512
Tweet Text: The full transcript of the debacle of a conversation on @BBCWomansHour between @Docstockk , @sally_hines and @janegarvey1 can be accessed here, read it and weep at the insanity of the "gender professor": [url]

Tweet ID: 1064674811778162688
Tweet Text: What is even more sickening is that students pay up to £9k per annum to be taught by this charlatan

Tweet ID: 1064856541642350592
Tweet Text: @BBCWomansHour @Bex_Stinson @helenlewis It is a very real concern that parents for example would not want their children in the same intimate spaces as a "transperson" who has not had surgical interventions as to all intent and purposes they are members of the opposite sex.

We have investigated the reported content and could not identify any violations of the Twitter Rules (support.twitter.com/articles/18311) or applicable law. Accordingly, we have not taken any action at this time.

Sincerely,

Twitter

Same here I just got the same kind of email with a load of my tweets that have been reported and none of which have been found to be offensive so that's interesting

Melamin · 21/11/2018 15:27

Fair play had one this week too, didn't they?

Budgieinaberet · 21/11/2018 15:28

That's great news

AspieAndProud · 21/11/2018 15:32

They don’t need to close you down permanently to silence you though. If they keep reporting you a string of temporary bans pending investigation will do the job. Twitter is broken.

arranfan · 21/11/2018 15:36

OP, it's possible to work out who you are on Twitter with the information you've posted - is that OK because you're confident about your anonymity there?

And, I'm pleased to see that Twitter responded in this way. I also wonder how long they can afford to deal with such a volume of spurious complaints or if they assume that the GC posters will eventually be intimidated out of using their platform because of all this interference.

Fizzingwithdisbelief · 21/11/2018 15:47

I do not have a problem with being identified on Twitter, having already been subjected to trolling and online abuse as thankfully I have the ability to laugh in the face of idiocy and blessed with resilience.

Coyoacan · 21/11/2018 16:04

I think it depends on how significant an enemy the TRAs think you are.

traceyracer · 21/11/2018 16:24

but even if your Tweets aren't against Twitter rules, have you considered that some of your content may be offensive to others if you are being reported for it?

AutumnCrow · 21/11/2018 16:27

Offensive to whom? Twitter is a bearpit.

FermatsTheorem · 21/11/2018 16:28

But we're bound to offend people simply by having different views. I'm sure my pro choice views on abortion for instance offend many people (potentially over a billion at a guess). Doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to air those views or must be forced not to air them in social media. People don't have a blanket right not to be offended.

Fizzingwithdisbelief · 21/11/2018 16:42

but even if your Tweets aren't against Twitter rules, have you considered that some of your content may be offensive to others if you are being reported for it?

Do I also in your narrow world view also have the right to be offended by the anti-science and in many instances downright insults thrown in my direction for merely stating biological facts?

OP posts:
Serfisafleur · 21/11/2018 17:57

Weaponising offense in order to close down free speech in a political context is as equally harmful as deliberately abusing someone else.

PositivelyPERF · 21/11/2018 18:00

but even if your Tweets aren't against Twitter rules, have you considered that some of your content may be offensive to others if you are being reported for it?

What exactly is offensive about the OP’s Twitter posts? Certain manipulative believers of false science post threats of violence and abuse. Are you as concerned about their posts?

Needmoresleep · 21/11/2018 18:02

but even if your Tweets aren't against Twitter rules, have you considered that some of your content may be offensive to others if you are being reported for it?

If yuo dont llike what someone is saying, and what they are saying is not illegal, you:

  • either don't read/follow them
  • point out why you disagree with arguments, and ideally wit.

And in case it needs saying, "Transwomen are women" and "#nodebate" are not arguments.

RetiredNotExpired · 21/11/2018 18:39

I had some tweets reported last week - no action taken.

but even if your Tweets aren't against Twitter rules, have you considered that some of your content may be offensive to others if you are being reported for it?

There's a good response to that (from, I think, Stephen Fry)

“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

Twitter naughty-step more like.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 22/11/2018 12:35

samsamsamsamsamsam That's because you upset @trustednerd - he claims to have a contact in the complaints department.

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/11/2018 12:59

tracey

Do you feel any speech which may be offensive to anyone should be censored?

For clarity, I mean within the laws governing incitement to hatred etc within the UK.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 22/11/2018 13:59

Ohhhh... that makes such sense @saskiarembrantwasframed he has managed to get a lot of people blocked.

Seems unfair. I'm going to appeal anyway.

I think we all need to appeal where we see fit, i know my appeal wont work, but the OP in this thread has a genuine case.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 22/11/2018 14:00

tracey I find TWAW is offensive, but I would never report it as I know it is someone else's opinion and isn't directly harming me.

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/11/2018 14:16

‘Offence’ is such a nebulous thing that you can’t ever ban it. Someone could be offended by almost anything. It’s meaningless

What we ban is harmful speech. That which incites actual harm.

Thus:

  1. ‘people wearing blue t shirts look stupid’ = may be offensive to people in blue t shirts but it’s an opinion.
  1. ‘Kill all blue t shirt wearers’ = potentially harmful. Inciting others to harm people. Not ok.

Funnily enough, it’s all arse about tit on Twitter. Peoples opinions (and factual speech) are being banned and actual threats are allowed.

Which is very odd, really. You can bang on about wanting to rape someone for their opinions but you can’t quote a biology textbook. I don’t think that’s very healthy.

What do you class as offensive, tracey?

applestrudels · 22/11/2018 14:33

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum, I've come here because I've recently peak-transed and discovered I am a 'terf' and I heard that there is good terf chat here. I have also had a Twitter ban! I am so bloody angry it's unreal.

First I received a 12 hour ban for several tweets mentioning a certain perverted Canadian cross-dresser who is suing beauticians who refused to touch his ballsack. I thought it was unfair, but in a couple of the tweets I did use words such as "sick weirdo", so I thought, fair enough, perhaps that could be considered personal abuse. But when I came back from my ban I tweeted this:

"12 hours in Twitter Prison for stating that an intact biological male (JY) who coerces women into waxing his balls and fantasises about teaching 10 year olds how to use a tampon is NOT a woman. #MenAreNotWomen"

And now I'm on a 7-day ban for "hateful conduct on the basis of .... gender identity". Now try as I might I cannot see what is hateful about that comment. A couple of years ago that statement would have been a straightforward matter of unarguable scientific fact, and now it is considered "hateful" and we're not even allowed to say it?? What the hell is going on?

The person in question uses a man's name in his Twitter handle, and doesn't even bother to even try and look like a woman. The suggestion that he has someone on the inside at Twitter just makes me more angry.

Does anyone have any tips on appealing/complaining to Twitter? Or on how to state that the emperor is not wearing any clothes without breaching Twitter's rules?

samsamsamsamsamsam · 22/11/2018 14:41

I have just had a weird situation where I woke up and had a short ban, then Ive just checked the status and the clock has jumped up and I now have a longer ban? Maybe its related to posting on here?

I am going to appeal. They wont cow me into being quiet.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 22/11/2018 14:43

Hi appelstrudels, I don't have any advice for you, but I would agree that it is infuriating that the waxing wanker has someone on the 'inside'
