I lurk on these boards a lot, but don't usually contribute at all, but thought I'd share this.

Had a man come to read the meter this morning, and the conversation got onto children, and he had a rant because his 2 DD's (12) have just started at a brand newly built school & all of the toilets are gender neutral & he is very, very unhappy about this.

He was very sure to let me know that he wasn't prejudiced at all, but his twin girls refuse to use the toilets at school as they are embarrassed & instead wait until lunch time when they come home to use the loo (& because they live very close, bring some of their friends with them)

He is making an appointment with the Headmaster to let him know that he is setting up a petition with other parents, and, if necessary, will not send his daughters to school until they have their own loos.

He was also very critical of the SNP Government because, in his words, "they're so right-on, they haven't stopped to consider girls wellbeing"

So, it seems that the message is getting through

Disrespectful I do take your point, but I'm not convinced Salander is supposed to be autistic? I read her as horribly abused with PTSD and is a sociopath (or rather, antisocial personality disorder) seeking revenge, which comes out quite clearly in book 2. I really don't want to derail this thread but the title change is very thought-provoking...I can't imagine it would have sold well in any language.

Erm, yes, I well recall out gym mistress's keen supervision of our open showers.
It was very hard to opt out (I was pitifully shy). I can't imagine how that would be for a male-boded person identifying as a girl - either for them or for the other girls. People who are promoting this seem to have zero concept of what it's like being adolescent.

My DS's school has unisex toilets off main corridors, many of the boys hate them too. dS sometimes has attacks of IBS and is very self conscious about passers by or girls hearing his bodily functions!

Schools round me are mostly single sex. This has made me wonder whether they'll have boys going to the girls school soon, and vice versa.

Dreadful for the poor girl here. When councils are sued they will take seriously the duty of care to protect girls at school. I will happily help contibute to crowdfunding to persuse issues as and when the arise (and they will).

Really good to hear, a bit of light is so appreciated. Hope he gives the head teacher an effective piece of his mind. I know teenage boys who avoid the boys loos cos they're gross, let alone girls avoiding loos boys use.
