A question from David TC Davis on the silencing of women on GRA consultation and a question on NDAs about being used by the rich and powerful to protect them from accusations of sexual harassment.

Will try and post Hansard up, when it pops up.

My daughter is not a man dressing up as a man she is a trans woman. She poses no threat to women as she is a woman and the vast majority of women - excluding those on this board - have no problem with that.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/10/2018 16:40

I guess what interests me is whether May knew that specific question from that person was coming, or whether it's just so obvious that questions will now be asked that prepping is the smart thing to do if you're PM.

I guess what interests me is whether May knew that specific question from that person was coming, or whether it's just so obvious that questions will now be asked that prepping is the smart thing to do if you're PM.

After the first engagements question has been asked, any other MPs who have tabled the same question are simply called to ask an untabled, supplementary question.

This means, in theory, that the Prime Minister will not know what questions will be asked of them. However, the Prime Minister will be extensively briefed by government departments in anticipation of likely subjects they could be asked about.

www.parliament.uk/about/how/business/questions/

But y'know. She saw David Davies was asking a question. So she knew what it was likely to be about.

RedToothBrush · 24/10/2018 16:46

I am damn sure my sibling isn't a threat to anyone too. But its not about that. Its about people who are in an emotionally distressed state and can not rationalise and don't need the extra stress and anxiety that it might produce. Its about the fuckers - who might well not be trans at all - who seek to exploit the system.

Rights are about balancing needs. Its about understanding and acknowledging the problems people have, not denying them or saying they are not valid.

You can not impose your beliefs on other people. It does not work. Trans women are women is an article of faith. Whether you want to admit it or not. Thats what it is.

Oh, copied the wrong paragraphs!

Never mind. PM knows who's going to be asking most of the questions so has a reasonable idea what they might be about.

OlennasWimple · 24/10/2018 16:47

Feminist4 - I'm sorry to tell you that this simply isn't true, and you aren't doing your child any favours by pretending that it is

FermatsTheorem · 24/10/2018 16:48

Having written briefings for PMWs in my time, I can absolutely confirm that. Part of the "art" is anticipating where the MP is going to go next with their supplementary question.

FermatsTheorem · 24/10/2018 16:48

PMQs dammit. I hate this phone.

LangCleg · 24/10/2018 16:49

Feminist4 - it's not about what you believe. It's not about what I believe. It's not about what the majority or minority of women believe. Or men. Or feminists. Or transactivists. Or politicians.

It's about what the service users need.

End fucking of.

If new services are needed so that your child can use them if required - start setting them up.

Feminist4 · 24/10/2018 16:50

OlennasWimple Please could you tell me which part of what I’ve written isn’t true?

LangCleg · 24/10/2018 16:50

Anyway. Back on topic because PMQs aren't about anybody's daughter.

How do we think May responded to the intimidation and preventing women from free assembly part of Davies's question? She elided that bit rather, didn't she?

AngryAttackKittens · 24/10/2018 16:54

She wriggled out of that bit like the politician that she is. The sense I got was "we're pushing it through anyway, but will pretend to listen because if we don't we'll look like arseholes".

FermatsTheorem · 24/10/2018 16:55

May elides all topics together in an effort to be all things to all people (Brexit anyone? Her flip flopping has at least united the country on one thing - remainers and leavers both think she's screwing up), so it's hardly surprising she should duck the difficult questions here.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/10/2018 16:56

Having said that, even a pretense of listening is better than what was happening even a month ago.

RedToothBrush · 24/10/2018 17:06

May didn't overtly condemn action to silence women. If anything she side stepped it as if women have been allowed to speak freely and without having to make a fuss about being left out of the original report.

OP posts:
LangCleg · 24/10/2018 17:10

I agree. She had her pre-prepared bits about having consulted women's groups and avoided the main thrust of the question.

I would like to eavesdrop on Davies's meeting with Equalities!

PineappleSunrise · 24/10/2018 17:38

I suspect she was just relieved not be be asked about the flotilla.

ShotsFired · 24/10/2018 19:37

I would have liked to see Corbyn's face when this was asked and again during TM's answer.
