GRA discussion

OP posts:
TerfedOff · 18/10/2018 18:05

Well that was heartening. Caroline Quinn very intelligent very clear and David Davis getting to the heart of what the problems are. How could anybody disagree with that?

HandsOffMyRights · 18/10/2018 18:07

Can't seem to get today's show. Johnny Best was also on with Caroline previously - she so gets it.

So today BBC has/will run articles on the Politics Show, PM, Newsnight and Dr Nic is also on BBCSW at 6.30pm.

It's like they are ticking their quota box to say they reported all of this before the GRA deadline, but leaving it to the 11th hour.

Cowardly snakes, Beeb.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/10/2018 18:09

Nothing and then 4 items in 1 day. The Guardian did the same. I smell rats.

scepticalwoman · 18/10/2018 18:13

Yup Handsoff

As the shit hits the fan about the silencing and abusing of the democratic process they'll be saying - "but we covered it - look how many times ..." Angry

Nah. I'm sure someone here has a spreadsheet and lots of a screenshots. And a list of mealy-mothed politicians, actors (I'm looking at you, Harry Potter girl), companies, etc.

scepticalwoman · 18/10/2018 18:17

BBC 1 now

OP posts:
LizzieSiddal · 18/10/2018 18:23

Oh how did BBC1 go?

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 18:23

Just caught the end. Well that was shite wasn't it?

TorchesTorches · 18/10/2018 18:23

Just caught the end of the bbc news. At least Nic featured, though later on the reporter saying bad behaviour on both sides was highly questionable.

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 18:23

Idiot May addressing the pink awards 🙄

scepticalwoman · 18/10/2018 18:23

They showed footage of Maria M being assaulted and the Bristol? meeting being targeted (think that was the day of the masked men and dogs) - but completely failed to point out that this was women being assaulted, bullied and silenced...

OP posts:
FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 18:25

Yes - it made sound like an even-matched pinch up.

WomaninBoots · 18/10/2018 19:05

So I listened as was pleased with what DD said. Very hard to get points across in a short time frame... and he did it well... then I googled him as I was getting him mixed up with David Davis and wanted to check who he was.

Lol.

Omg. Why is it that I can agree with NOTHING else he has ever said? I hate that it's the right wing talking sense here and the left have just thrown women under the trans bus. It's really disturbing!

boatyardblues · 18/10/2018 19:07

David Davies was terrific on PM. Star

It’s really galling this is finally getting coverage with barely 24 hours of the consultation left to run. It stinks!

borntobequiet · 18/10/2018 19:13

Heard DD on another programme, can’t remember which, saying that he had been working with people from across the political spectrum (specifically left wing feminists!) and that this was an issue that cut across all political standpoints. As of course it does.

Tanith · 18/10/2018 19:23

Try from around 21:30

Destinysdaughter · 18/10/2018 19:27

Great but WHY are the BBC and the Guardian only covering this NOW?? FFS. It's too little too late. I tried to talk to my older sister about this recently and her lack of interest and scepticism about this was purely on the basis of, if this issue was as serious as you claim it is, surely it would have been reported by the BBC and The Guardian? I had no answer to that without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. So I'm pretty fucked off with these hugely influential institutions finally giving this issue the coverage that it deserved MONTHS AGO!!

But, kudos to David Davies, he's done a lot for us, more than any female politician and for that, I am grateful.

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 19:58

Quotas maybe? Arse covering for when people point out how skewed their reporting has been?

niceberg · 18/10/2018 19:58

Just listened on iPlayer. Oh my god DD was fantastic. Articulate and authoritative but with just a hint of exasperation. Very powerful.

nicenewdusters · 18/10/2018 20:07

Such a relief to hear common sense so well articulated. Disgraceful that the BBC are doing this all at the 11th hour to cover their backs.

OvaHere · 18/10/2018 20:13

That was an excellent interview by David Davies. Helped by the fact the interviewer didn't interrupt him once and let him finish what he had to say.

I have in the past and I know they appreciate it.

R0wantrees · 18/10/2018 20:47

Peter Dunne is not an unbiased legal opinion.

He provided 'evidence' at the TRans Equality Inquiry and is now listed as a member of TELI UK. He co wrote a trans-rights legal perspective with Tara Hewitt which has been widely used by TRAs to diminish women's concerns.

Like the 'legal exerts' at WEP and this week on Woman's Hour. Peter Dunne has vested interest and bias.

Sorry not able to link at the moment but an advance search should show up previous posts.

nauticant · 18/10/2018 20:57

Great but WHY are the BBC and the Guardian only covering this NOW?? FFS.

Have a look at this:

The BBC's five public purposes are set out by the Royal Charter and Agreement, the constitutional basis for the BBC as presented to Parliament.

These purposes outline the values the BBC holds when striving to achieve its mission to inform, educate and entertain.
To provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them.

I no longer support the BBC in its current form. This is a huge change for me after being very much on their side for most of my life.

TwistedStitch · 19/10/2018 00:27

Interesting tweet from Jonathan Best. The law expert at the start of the segment was to correct Ruth Hunt's previous false assertion that TWAW in law.
