I've been lurking for the past year, and I'm absolutely overwhelmed with what's happening re the GRC etc. And the impact it could have for us and our daughters etc. Finally peak transed this week re Karen write and sent in the pre filled consultation last night. Been speaking about it at work and peak transing others. I'm absolutely on your side,

But this past week I've read loads on it all - twitter etc. Posie is a legend, I agree. The Harrop interview was on another level, and the projection stuff. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼, I just wondered what the MN hive were saying about the accusations re racism/ islamophobia? Are these tweets photo shopped? I am a 22yo woman, fresh out of 'woke' uni - I dont want to be flames and I absolutely support your views but I have just been wondering about this discrepancy?

I've read loads of threads on FWR re PP but have never seen these comments mentioned - obviously they are often brought up by TRAs (obvs when you're losing an argument, you need to bring up irrelevant shit). Nonetheless, I can't see in an AIBU thread that these views would be tolerated, interested to hear what everyone thinks here? Are they photoshopped? I can't imagine everyone fangirling her if not?

Brilliant posts Dancelike.

JellySlice · 14/10/2018 07:47

"hive"?

Hmm
Needmoresleep · 14/10/2018 07:55

I really worry about the impact Self-ID would have on Muslim girls and their opportunities to participate in activities outside their own communities. Is this Islamophobic, or is the fact that Pips Bunce and the other ghastly crew who are called upon to provide advice to organisations such as the Girl Guides, appear to be thinking of their own interests and not give a damn about those who might be considerably less well off than them.

Since when did we stop caring about community inclusion and cohesion.

Bonions · 14/10/2018 07:58

I think we’ve forgotten how to seek consensus on particular issues because there are lots of accusations of if you align on one thing must mean you align on absolutely everything else.

I am not a Tory voter nor condone a lot of what Anna Soubry has voted for but I support her stance on Brexit and I’m not going to discount her as an ally on this because she has differing views on housing.

Serfisafleur · 14/10/2018 08:10

Any feminist can see that Bradford is a bad place for women and girls, we should be allowed to discuss this.
Oh... I forgot, silly me.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 14/10/2018 08:12

I am not at all sure of the intentions of this poster, to be honest.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 08:13

Having a fairly radical or controversial stance means attracting surprising bedfellows.

I'm sure many left wing feminists never imagined they would be aligned with far right Christian fundamentalism or find themselves nodding along with the Daily Mail.

Oscarino · 14/10/2018 08:24

I'm sure many left wing feminists never imagined they would be aligned with far right Christian fundamentalism or find themselves nodding along with the Daily Mail.

And I’m sure many TRAs are not the slightest bit concerned that their demands align precisely with the 1987 fatwa of the Ayatollah Khomeini which is fully endorsed by the current rulers of Iran.

Surprising bedfellows indeed.

gilchrist168 · 14/10/2018 08:32

I used to suffer a lot with hives when I was little.
My gran used to dab them with vinegar.

waterlego6064 · 14/10/2018 08:43

I'm sure many left wing feminists never imagined they would be aligned with far right Christian fundamentalism or find themselves nodding along with the Daily Mail.

Indeed. And this has been very uncomfortable for me personally, and has lead me to constantly question myself and my logic to make sure I haven’t misunderstood. And yet I keep coming back to the same conclusion- I cannot change my beliefs on this, and if they happen to align with the views of right-wingers, I can’t help that.

I KNOW I’m a softy lefty; I have been all my life. But I can’t just continue to ‘be nice’ on this issue because it is so important.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 08:48

Gosh gil that sounds quite... acerbic.

gilchrist168 · 14/10/2018 09:01

Thanks Dancing
A painful experience, all in.
A bit like reading some posts here at times. Smile

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 14/10/2018 09:04

Thank you waterlego. I struggle to be meaningful but not provide Twitter bait. Which makes me long-winded. So the kind words are much appreciated.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 09:13

Whether or not the OP is genuine or not it raises a good point. It would be a mistake to unconditionally sing the praises of someone who only agrees with you on one thing.

If that person also happens to be a homophobe or racist it could make one appear to be homophobic or racist too.

LangCleg · 14/10/2018 09:32

Posie entered this debate as a free speecher. As her involvement and understanding has increased, I imagine some of her views are evolving - just like the views of most of us have evolved.

I, for example, came into the debate firmly believing there would be a way to accommodate the interests of old school transsexuals into the feminist movement against self-ID and got told off by a fair few radfems. Now, I see TRA ideology is too pernicious for any compromise whatsoever.

I look at the friendship and comradeship that Posie receives from women like Anne and Julia and I do not believe for an instant this would be forthcoming if she was really lesbophobic. And I disagree with Posie's views on how on street grooming actually works but agree with her dislike of patriarchal religion. That's fine and if we ever meet, I'm sure we could have a fantastic ding dong sorting it out.

But mostly, I am grateful to Posie for her courage, indefatigability, her ability to cut through bullshit and communicate to a mass audience and her genius publicity skills. I've donated to her group and intend to do so again.

gilchrist168 · 14/10/2018 09:35

I've always found it helpful to look at the issue , and how it affects women and girls, rather than asking " whose side should I be on, left or right ?"
I'm on the side of women and girls.
I'm not one for apotheosis.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 09:36

I imagine trans people feel a similar way about Danielle Muscato - made some unfortunate and controversial Tweets and is a bit embarrassing but does some great campaign work.

Nobody is all good or all bad.

SadieLancaster · 14/10/2018 09:39

I haven’t seen any examples of racism from Posie and frankly Islam is an awful religion and I don’t see why anyone should be criticised for pointing it out.

gilchrist168 · 14/10/2018 09:39

To add for clarification, I respect Posie Parker for her deeds, and those who work with her, and I have also donated, and will continue to do so.

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2018 09:46

This.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 09:47

SadieLancaster if you say 'trans women are not women' and 'Islam is an awful religion' in the same breath people will immediately stop taking you seriously.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/10/2018 10:17

milk

Milk, we've had a flood of new posters starting "disingenuous" threads & screenshots of the replies then appearing on TRA accounts on Twitter.

This

But to answer the question directly i dont agree with everything PP says but i very much support her rights to say them and there are quite a few things she says that i do agree with soooo....

Think thats it Smile

SadieLancaster · 14/10/2018 10:20

I’m sure you’re right Dakini but the fact remains both statements are true.

QuentinWinters · 14/10/2018 10:33

Bwahahahahaha 10/10.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 11:17

Exactly Quentin, equally as vile as the Posie Tweets referenced in the OP.
