DH showed his true colours today

We were at the shopping centre and we walked past a group of early teen boys who had spotted a girl that they took a fancy to. One of the boys made some motion to his friends to signify that he was getting a hard on. Of course, I was disgusted and told DH that if DS did anything like that, I’d be really upset. He just laughed and said ‘boys will be boys’
I said that is not an excuse for anything, we’ll just carry on letting men assault women because hey, boys will be boys 🙄
Then, he had the fucking audacity to ask me if I was due my period. A few harsh words were said and once we were home, he asked if I was still huffing with him. I said no, but I do think we need to talk about it later once DS is in bed and he says ‘really? You’ve been in poor form all day and I don’t know why’
WHAT?
We had a really nice day! Wtf? I asked how, and he couldn’t say, just I’ve been moody. What a ridiculous diversion tactic.
Does anyone know of any good articles in which I can show my DH which could potentially explain this better than I can? TIA

I’m sorry - completely feel your pain

IStandWithPosie · 12/10/2018 18:35

Oh an no @ on here. It's not the done thing.

It absolutely is because that’s what the function was created for.

Makethisquick · 12/10/2018 18:37

@ are the done thing. I like an @. If you don't, just disable the function surely?

CriticalCondition · 12/10/2018 18:38

I've also come to the conclusion that sharing our personal experience and the drip, drip, drip approach is more effective. If I rant, and it's hard not to because I feel like ranting most of the time, it's counter-productive. DH closes off and gets defensive - not me, not all men, blah blah.

But the time I just casually mentioned groping/flashing incidents which had happened to me on public transport decades ago really brought him up short. Even though it was a long time ago, it was suddenly real to him. I could see it dawning on him.

fuzzywuzzy · 12/10/2018 18:42

Ask I’m if he’s feeling ok as he’s been an arsehole all day and you have no idea why. Tell him he’s ruined the day by his rude thoughtless misogynistic behaviour ask if him if he’s maybe got a hormonal imbalance as this happens a lot and maybe he should see someone about it.

It fucks me right off when men tell women to ‘calm down’ or if they’re ‘in your period’ no I have a right to be affronted by your toxic behaviour.

Butterymuffin · 12/10/2018 18:47

Saying 'You were a sexist dick head and it really pissed me off' ought to cover it.

placemats · 12/10/2018 19:24

Most here have disabled it. I have.

IStandWithPosie · 12/10/2018 19:29

Most here have disabled it. I have.

Then it won’t affect you.

WokerThanWoke · 12/10/2018 19:36

How do you disable it placemats?

sawdustformypony · 12/10/2018 21:22

No, but they're making divorce much easier

Good news then. From your reports, I wouldn't put any bets on your marriage lasting far into the future. Sooner rather than later eh? - gives you each a better chance of meeting someone new.

This reminded me of a recent Trevor Noah clip. They showed Republic women speaking about Kavanaugh and one said something like "show me the boy who never did that at school, never touched a girl" and Trevor was slowly raising his hand, me...?

Many women have commented on mn how they have consistently directed their son's attention to misogyny just by pointing out examples (on the news, other people on the street, etc so that your son doesn't feel directly attacked, singled out and get defensive. Persistently mentioning the topic over time really does help their boys become better, is what they've said. I've been super impressed with the women who make this effort! Flowers

ohello · 13/10/2018 05:19

Too many women assume they have zero influence over their son, and that is simply not true, it's merely a justification for them to not make the effort.
