www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/oct/08/women-men-curfew-danger-fear

An article about the relative vulnerability of women out in the world and the lack of understanding men have.

Leading with a quote from DANIELLE FUCKING MUSCATO about that female experience.

Danielle - bearded, taking a place in a women's refuge,"Suck my dick" - Muscato.

We are being trolled and mocked on a daily basis.

I've found that the kind of male humans who I'm comfortable being in enclosed spaces with generally don't tell women they're angry with to suck their cocks.

Oh. Haven't you heard the penises of transwomen are an entirely different kind of cock? Does that count for nothing!?!?!? Bigot!

DakiniTawa · 09/10/2018 15:15

I doubt Danielle is treated like a man when walking down the street, I expect she is treated like a trans women.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 09/10/2018 15:17

So, Muscato asks the ladies, what we would do, if men had a 9 hour curfew.

The obvious answer: nothing. Cause the men, in all their bearded glory, will declare themselves women and that‘s that.

Yep. Nothing to see here; move along.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/10/2018 15:17

Ah yes, delicate and hesitant cocks, like fluttering butterflies that can potentially get you pregnant.

deepwatersolo · 09/10/2018 15:20

I doubt Danielle is treated like a man when walking down the street, I expect she is treated like a trans women.

I doubt that makes much of a difference. Blokes will just pass by without any cat calling and get on with their business. Women will cross the street, just in case they get an offer to suck dick either way. Either way.

deepwatersolo · 09/10/2018 15:22

Ah yes, delicate and hesitant cocks, like fluttering butterflies that can potentially get you pregnant.

Exactly. Finally Roz Kaveney got you to understaaaand.

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 09/10/2018 16:33

@MNHQ. I would also like to understand why my post of 07.07 was deleted. I think I had quoted from the original Twitter thread and described how meeting DM after 9pm (in accordance with their hypothetical curfew) would make me feel.

If I am not told which particular part of the impossible to navigate 'guidelines', I have breached, how do I make sure not to do it again? Confused

HomeStar · 09/10/2018 16:34

I doubt Danielle is treated like a man when walking down the street, I expect she is treated like a trans women.

I think you may not know who Danielle is. Just do an image search. No one would treat Danielle as anything other than a larger than average beardy white man, unless they were explicitly informed of Danielle's identity.

UpstartCrow · 09/10/2018 16:45

Has anyone in the comments posted NAMALT, called Muscato bitter, or quoted stats for male on male violence?

I would not be at all surprised if DM was on the receiving end of genuinely transphobic abuse and harassment when DM goes out and about. However, I very much doubt that anyone has ever harassed DM because of misogynistic motives.

Incidentally, a bit of biographical detail may be in order. DM's parents had to evict DM, who then moved into a women's homeless shelter, presumably taking a place from a woman who desperately needed it. Forgive me if I feel exactly zero sisterly solidarity towards DM.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/10/2018 17:40

How unpleasant a person do you have to be for your own parents to evict you?

BiologyMatters · 09/10/2018 17:49

I get that muscato isn't feminine and doesn't pass, and that generally muscato is not liked here for potentially good reason. (although I don't believe they make any effort to pass). But why all the personal comments about their appearance? Can't we rise above that?

FermatsTheorem · 09/10/2018 18:01

Biology, I think it's because for a long time DM took great pride in wearing a full beard and dressing in a very conservative dark suit and tie, and saying "this is what a transwoman looks like." This did rather tend to make DM's appearance central to the question of what exactly it was DM was up to (and make it central through DM's own choices surrounding their appearance), and also raised the question in many people's minds as to whether DM was in fact blatantly trolling everyone around them. DM later changed the record slightly to say that in fact DM presented the way they did because gender reassignment surgery was expensive...

I am not sure I believe anything much DM says, to be honest. If DM told me the sky was blue, I'd look outside to check.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 10/10/2018 07:50

because for a long time DM took great pride in wearing a full beard and dressing in a very conservative dark suit and tie, and saying "this is what a transwoman looks like."

And because Moscato makes a mockery of what it means to be female.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 10/10/2018 07:54

Plus, Moscato takes the piss. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, the gloves are off.

FermatsTheorem · 10/10/2018 08:21

Also because of the "suck my lady-dick" tweet Muscato chose to issue on international women's day - it will be a cold day in hell before I believe any statement Muscato makes about male on female sexual violence seriously after that tweet.
