Please speak English

Dear Feminists

Having attended the cancelled "meeting" in Leeds and read through various feminists threads, I think the time has come to say, please would you speak in English (or even broken English and one distinguished musician once sang about).

Do you not realise yet that the vast majority of the "average" person on the street has no clue what the hell you go one about? If however you were to say "do you think it is a good idea to sterilise young people?" you might actually get a response.

Here are my "labels": Woman; Conservative: Catholic; Biologist.

Oh shit I see in the aisles.

Do you not yet realise that the whole issues of transsexualism with regard to children and young people crosses political and ideological boundaries?

Do you not think that the average family is disgusted and appalled?

Just stop with the "linguistic register" and talk to people on a human level - you might be surprised how many "allies" you have.

Just for the record - Tish does not speak for me as a parent, I was offended that she could even go there, I do not know you and you cannot speak for me. Karen - all I learned from you is how many ways to kill another person - what that has to do with changes in legislation is beyond me.

Get off your ideological high horses and communicate on a human level, using accessible language that people actually understand.

Thank you

Not a bloody word. Am I meant to know who Tish and Karen are?

7Days · 07/10/2018 00:03

So... As far as I can make out.... feminists are WRONG for agreeing with you?

Or is this another, just ask nicely ladies, I'm sure those nice gentlemen will grant you your wishes, within reason of course.

I loved the WPUK meeting I went to! Despite difficulties (cancelled venue at short notice, and logistics of moving us all to another venue ) it all went beautifully well. In fact, it provided the perfect talking point for all of us being ferried, to talk with each other!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/10/2018 00:06

Who's Tish?

Who's Karen?

Are you on glue?

Pywife2 · 07/10/2018 00:09

Well this is interesting (if incomprehensible). I suspect OP will wake up with a headache in the morning.

terryleather · 07/10/2018 00:09

*Who's Tish?

Who's Karen?

Are you on glue?*

Don't care just as long as they're not wearing nappies...

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2018 00:09

Well, I was hoping this is was our typical male TRA, but this is lost on me. Have I missed something?

I'm guessing it's one of those anti Liberal types. Hates Middle class people and clever people. Likes Nigel. Likes Trump.

If they aren't, fuck knows.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/10/2018 00:13

So OP went to a meeting (Women's Place maybe) and was ignored by a couple of feminists. OP has now come on here to tell us off for that? Maybe?

conservative14 · 07/10/2018 00:16

haha

ImNotonLinkedInNo · 07/10/2018 00:16

who is the 'we' in the OP's post? Men? Non feminists? Trans?

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2018 00:20

It might be far right recruitment or trying to get someone to pipe up to agree. So that then MN can be smeared on that on twitter.

ShcfG · 07/10/2018 00:22

Fuck knows.

That's anti-feminists, they never make any sense.

hipsterfun · 07/10/2018 01:03

Have a paracetamol and a pint of water, OP.

You’ll feel better in the morning.

Barracker · 07/10/2018 01:29

Helena, is that you?

OhOk · 07/10/2018 07:21

I

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 07:25

Someone got very upset at the London meeting. I really felt for her but it seemed to be some personal issue with one of the contributers. So maybe something like that

AngryAttackKittens · 07/10/2018 07:27

I think I know which Karen she means but no clue who Tish is. This seems like something that really ought to have been an email, or a PM.

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 07:59

R u ok hun?

SausageOnAFork · 07/10/2018 08:03

As I understand it the op went to the WP meeting but found the speakers spoke in jargon rather than saying ‘women don’t have penises’. Then they didn’t speak to the op.
The op believes that the WP speakers are making it too difficult for the average woman to understand.
However, OP, the kind of person who will go to a WP meeting has already joined the trans debate or they wouldn’t be there. A certain amount of back ground knowledge of the topic is assumed.
The average person in the street doesn’t know that the trans debate even exhists so you can tell them about it using simple language.

BlardyBlar · 07/10/2018 08:14

Tish and Karen are both on Twitter.

I agree plain English Is important, but there are many women speaking out in different ways. Space for all women’s voices.

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 08:14

Sausage - that's what I take from OP, also. In addition, OP votes Tory and doesn't feel WP is particularly welcoming to Tories?

SophoclesTheFox · 07/10/2018 08:16

That translation helps a lot, thank you sausage.

I agree that the language doesn't need to be academic. To be honest, I think it's the type of person who wants to redefine the word "woman" to be a shifting constellation of docile, fragile sexuality, or have seventy five genders to choose from or whatever who is complicating the debate.

Most women find it easy to boil it down to "women don't have penises" and have done.

When I've been out leafletting, I ask people if I can talk to them about a government consultation, or if they are aware that women's rights are in danger.

One woman I leafletted with just bounced up to people and said "hey, do you know what a woman is?". She got the best reactions Grin

Anyway, OP you seem to have taken this all very personally, not sure why.

Politelygiveszerofucks · 07/10/2018 08:17

My label is Catholic. But actually when it comes to fighting the GRA the Catholic Church hasn’t bothered and feminists are the last women standing.

AngryAttackKittens · 07/10/2018 08:21

On the issue of Tory women, I agree that most current opposition groups lean left and can see how that might be alienating for right wing women. The solution to that is for Tory women to create an organized group/multiple groups to oppose the changes that we're all concerned about. Penny Mordaunt, for example, seems like she would very much benefit from hearing from some women who support her party but think what she's supporting in regards to gender identity is completely barmy.

MaybeDoctor · 07/10/2018 08:31

There is a grain of truth in the OP:

Transing
Woke
TRA
GRA
Unicorns
Mermaids
WEP
Bro
LM
POMO
Peak

...are all terms that are used fairly freely within these threads and are rather impenetrable unless you puzzle them out via context.

It took me several months from first clicking on one of these threads to understand what the real issues were. I initially thought ‘transwoman’ was a woman in the process of changing to be a man and couldn’t really see what the fuss was about! 😂
