In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

I heard back from my MP (Tory) that they would try to go.

CriticalCondition · 15/10/2018 11:30

Didn't hear back from mine in response to my email over a week ago.

So I telephoned their parliamentary office this morning and spoke to a real person. I asked if my MP was in the House of Commons tomorrow and they said yes. They have dug out my email and confirmed that the meeting will be added to the diary and my MP will attend if possible.

They even followed up with another email saying my MP would be interested in my response to the GRA consultation and inviting me to share it.

It really is worth pushing, even at this late stage.

QuilliamCakespeare · 15/10/2018 11:46

My Tory MP said they would try to pop in.

Antonia87 · 15/10/2018 12:16

Just emailed my Labour MP . In a London constituency with a high proportion of South Asians. I questioned him as to whether trans rights trumped those of his constituents of whom a high number will be Muslim women. Awaiting a response though not expecting one.

I’d like to know who does find the time to drop in to the drop-in. My MP is this close to losing my vote in the next GE.

borntobequiet · 15/10/2018 13:08

I emailed Woman’s Hour because they are discussing the GRA tomorrow, and forwarded those comments to my MP with a reminder of the meeting.

adulthumanandtired · 15/10/2018 15:52

My female Labour MP has ignored my email(plus reminder) asking if she’d attend.
Is there anything I can do?

FekkoTheLawyer · 15/10/2018 16:04

Is Karen Buck ill? I emailed her last Sunday...

FlowersAndHerts · 15/10/2018 17:15

Seeing CriticalCondition's post above, I just phoned my MP at the HoC, as a follow up to the email I'd sent. Sadly, I'd only sent the email this morning, so I hope others had already emailed. I spoke to the chief of staff, who was aware of The Times article, which was great, but not at all clued up on the issue.

The Tory MP already has a full diary, but I asked that they send a representative, and pointed out that the issue was about to blow up, and he needed to be on top of it. I also pointed out about the 98% against self-ID poll in The Times, so politically it would be a good move.

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 15/10/2018 17:18

I've received a response from my MP (Conservative). No mention of tomorrow's meeting, he reiterated how transgender people face the worst discrimination in our society, and how women won't be affected at all by changes to the GRA. I'm actually really angry. This is not the first time I've written to him about it, and it's not the first time he has completely ignored the points I raised and not addressed them at all.

Charliethefeminist · 15/10/2018 17:21

My MP replied. Can't go, but has concerns they've already raised with the minister. I'm reassured.

Charliethefeminist · 15/10/2018 17:21

How big is his majority, Thursday

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 15/10/2018 17:27

Very safe seat. Labour and Lib-dem are very far behind (but I'm not certain of those individual's views on this either)

Charliethefeminist · 15/10/2018 17:29

How troublesome

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 15/10/2018 19:02

I've had reply from my MP, Labour, female, huge majority. She can't go to the meeting because of other long-standing commitments but is happy to meet me, so I'll do that as soon as possible.

qumquat · 15/10/2018 20:42

My partner got a reply from Vicky Foxcroft saying she couldn't make the meeting but inviting him to meet with her alongside other constituents who had expressed concerns. She said there had been 8 so far. Any lurking Lewisham residents please add your voices this is a definite shift!

qumquat · 15/10/2018 20:43

My MP (Con) also replied saying he understood my concerns but couldn't make the meeting. He recommended I fill in the consultation and invited me to go to see him

Charley50 · 15/10/2018 20:49

I emailed my female Labour MP (Haringey) over a week ago. Haven't had a reply.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/10/2018 20:54

Emailed mine (Con) several times now. My mother's (Lab), nothing.
My friend says her MP, Jess Phillips, cannot make it.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/10/2018 20:58

Jess has a prior meeting with.....
Amnesty Sad

NaturalBornWoman · 15/10/2018 21:38

Mine has replied. He hasn't said he'd go to the meeting but he has said he does agree with me and will work towards that outcome. I can't remember exactly what I said, but definitely no to self-ID.

PencilsInSpace · 15/10/2018 23:18

My MP says he will attend! He says he also has concerns about GRA reform and about the EA.

I'm very pleased. He's been hard to pin down and I haven't wanted to push it because he's heavily involved in the Brexit stuff and must be run off his feet right now.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/10/2018 23:26

Well done Pencils!

LatinForTelly · 15/10/2018 23:32

I heard back from my mp (tory) today. He didn't mention the meeting but said he -
and others - would be voting against changes to the gra.

Sorry I am not near my laptop so can't quote verbatim. He may have said many others, or many colleagues or something.

DontCisgenderMe · 15/10/2018 23:45

No reply from mine (Lab, marginal seat). Not holding out much hope as I already know she is pro self- ID.
