A pop-up stand selling products that support UN charity " Girl Up " was taken down 20 minutes after being put there supposedly due to feminism being " too controversial ". Topshop are happy to sell t-shirts with " feminist " written on but this is too much for them?

@sarahjconnor

what did he say when you stood in front of him?

Surely feminism-lite is better than nothing?

I agree with you @chemino..

The point of the book was to be accessible to a wide range of women with differing notions about feminism. Raising consciousness starts with little steps. No-one 'owns' the term and no-one starts out by wanting to smash the patriarchy.

I note that Penguin Books has had an avalanche of offers to host the pop-up and is getting a lot of love and support on Twitter.

Frankly Topshop would have done better to have left it there. It wouldn't have changed anyone's mind, and would have made them look right on.

Yes it's feminism lite and doesn't really grasp the issues, but most people aren't even going to drill down that far. They are just going to be left with the impression that a big retail businessman doesn't give a fuck about the women who buy his clothes.

Or worse, he has a horribly cynical sexist attitude towards them, Gerald Ratner style.

It will draw attention to women, and them being shut up. Probably go no further, but it's not a negative.
