I've just been reading this thread and I am utterly blown away by the number of women who say they are lurking here.

It's quite, quite wonderful to read that thread and I wanted to acknowledge it and roll out the red carpet if any of you wanted to post. I know it can feel a bit intimidating, like you have to have the right vocabulary, or some huge knowledge of feminist theory, but you don't.

Your words are valuable, and your unique view is important because together we're powerful!

We're also rude, funny, and most of all DISRESPECTFUL in all the ways that matter. Don't just lurk: join in Grin you are very welcome.

I am mainly a lurker and find the many strong women's voices on this board so inspiring! I don't have that much time to contribute right now, but I am learning and thinking about so much, and trying to share it in real life where I can. There is such a sense of feminist solidarity on this board, and frankly, that's the only thing that brings me hope in relation to trans ideology; things have to turn around soon, surely!

SignMeUp · 02/10/2018 01:52

Hello wonderful women. I found this site about a year ago from a GC link, have occasionally browsed around. I've learned a lot.
I've been looking to this site more frequently lately for solid information, humor, insights, and...validation?
Today, I'm here to take my mind off SCROTUS. Yes, I'm from North America. I live in a very WOKE community so I don't have any real life sisters who get it. I love following the UK feminist news. Thanks for all your amazing activism and research. (Also not on Twitter)
Thanks for the invitation to introduce myself.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/10/2018 07:03

We're going to have to get that conservatory built on to the pub to accommodate everyone now Grin

I bloody LOVE it!

This place is kicking arse at the moment. Such energy.

@SmellyHead

So.... why don't we use art/expression to our advantage here?? I copied my post on a few FWR threads last night to see if anyone picked up on what I was getting at.

It could be any form of media and as long we are telling the story (completely fictional characters of course, or whatever) we can't be accused of transphobia. We're simply just telling a story, and getting it out into the open so those who don't understand the issues perhaps get a grasp on what is happening.

If it wasn't for MN I would not have had a clue just how much of this stuff goes on (don't use twitter either).

We find a way to tell the story (controversial as it may seem) and get it out there to a wider audience.

I hope someone can help with this.

I am a long time lurker. Gradually getting more angry at the proposed violation of women's rights. What action can I take?

arranfan · 02/10/2018 09:09

Above all, please, post here :) We need lots of voices.

At the moment, it's important to fill in the GRA consultation (lots of threads). Fair Play for Women has a guide that is linked in this thread):

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3382148-Could-someone-help-me-fill-out-the-GRA-questionnaire-please

This is an updating thread of consultations and Things to do:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3318003-Bringing-your-MUST-DO-WOMENS-RIGHTS-consultations-together-with-links-and-timelines-thread

If it's OK in RL for you, speak to people. Maybe take a look at FPFW's information pack. Possibly buy a bag or T-shirt from FPFW or Standing for Women :) Would you attend a Women's Place UK meeting - they'e very inspirational?

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/10/2018 09:30

Welcome all the lovely lurkers!

I said on the last delurking thread that it felt like the Twilight Barking in 101 Dalmations, and it really, really does!

KittyKlawsReturns · 02/10/2018 09:43

Hello lurkers, it is so lovely to hear from you all.

Antonia87 · 02/10/2018 09:55

Yes, I will do all those things! Just as soon as they have a meeting near me I will attend. Well done all you brave women. I am in awe !

SymphonyofShadows · 02/10/2018 10:03

I'm mainly a lurker but I bloody love these boards. The tide really seems to be turning these past few days, middle England seems to be wising up at last. I'm enraged about what has happened to Posie.

DeerHearts · 02/10/2018 10:09

Delurking now, my tolerance for this insanity well and truly took a nose dive at the doxxing of Posie Parker and then my own DP refusing to see how womens rights were under threat. It's time to make some noise!

Hope it's okay to share my thread here on how to fill out the GRA Questionnaire.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 02/10/2018 10:11

oh sorry, already shared above.

arranfan · 02/10/2018 10:16

It's helpful to have links repeated, CaptainKirkssparetupee as they're not always easy to spot.

whenallissaidanddone · 02/10/2018 10:25

hello.

i am a lurker and i have learnt loads. now an enraged and informed lurker. de lurking to say i have done the consultation, written to my mp (much good it'll do, living as i do in the wokest part of the country outside london) and the secretary of state.

all power to you. to us.
x

silentcrow · 02/10/2018 10:38

I did a rough head count. More than 200 lurkers have come out on this thread alone. If every one of you fill in the consultation that's a massive help even if you never decide to post again! But please do Smile because together we are amazing, and together we can bring even more along.

StrangersWhenWeMeet · 02/10/2018 11:36

Name changed to delurk and say hello - and thanks to all the women of FWR!

I’ve been here for more than a decade under various names but never posted in FWR before, although it’s where I spend by far the majority of my time on MN.

Thanks to FWR I am an ‘out’ GC voice on facebook; (also tentatively at work although like many others here concerned for what it means for my career). I attended the ‘we need to talk’ meeting in York (the one where Linda Bellos asserted her right to self defence 👍🏻), and I’m a proud wearer of my FPFW tee. Currently trying to decide where best to deploy my FPFW leaflets and postcards for best effect in the limited time left before the consultation closes. I have turned one Fb friend into an openly GC voice, who is now sharing FPFW posts herself, and had many more speak to me irl to say they agree...

It’s been a long while since I have pinned my colours to any mast, but this is my line in the sand. For my daughter, and women everywhere, I am finding my voice. And it’s all thanks to this board. Flowers

GooseDownCreek · 02/10/2018 13:37

Captain Thanks for the link on filling out the GRA consultation. I downloaded it but gave up as I didn't feel I could answer most of it.
I'm going to read a lot more of the links and threads on here. I used to dismiss and hide them as oh no not another trans thread but now I m beginning to get it.
My aim is to be able to explain it to my adult sons who have grown up learning to be inclusive of all and on the one occasion I tried to discuss this I didn't do very well and they now just think I'm bigoted.

Antonia87 · 02/10/2018 13:40

Consultation done! I'm afraid I just copied and pasted a lot of the responses from the women's place website due to time constraints!

ParisProperty · 02/10/2018 17:53

The consultation is deliberately difficult and bamboozling, but you don't have to answer all of it. I copied and pasted a lot of the answers from the FPFW website, but it doesn't matter. The important thing is to do as much as you can and send it.

My DH doesn't get any of this and it infuriates me. He will if somebody else tells him or if he hears it on the news or reads it in the newspaper. Unfortunately he watches the BBC and reads the guardian and the Telegraph ("for balance" - I know) and none of this is reported in those places.

Where has the thread about the sports consultation gone?

arranfan · 02/10/2018 17:57

Where has the thread about the sports consultation gone?

Is this the one you mean, ParisProperty ?

ParisProperty · 02/10/2018 17:59

Yes, thank you arranfan.
Will have a look at that one now.

Nightowlagain · 02/10/2018 18:07

I am a devoted lurker, I have been here reading these threads for about 18 months I think. I have suffragette colours on my Twitter and have been sticking leaflets in toilets for the last few weeks. I don’t say much because there are many very eloquent women here saying it better than me, but I want to say thank you to them and let them know that there are people listening and taking action even if we don’t always comment on the threads.

furrymuff · 02/10/2018 18:56

I read every day but think I have only posted twice, both on the threads about the BACPs Diversity guidelines (I am a counsellor). I love this board and am fully peak transed! My Twitter feed is almost entirely GC as well, with Trump stuff in between! I want to become more active, but still have an element of fear - being self-employed it would only take one person accusing me of conversion therapy to the BACP and my business would be stuffed Sad so I need to carefully consider ways in which I can contribute.
