Extracts:

‘candidates shortlisted alongside Sophie Cook withdrew their candidacy following questions over a former company of hers going bust – effectively halting the process.

Later that month, Labour’s HQ said it intended to re-run the selection, with Ms Cook automatically being shortlisted without being interviewed by a local panel in the normal way.

A party source said: “Sophie still had union and Momentum backing despite everything. None of the activists wanted her so she drew her support mainly from the non activists.

“She wouldn’t step down even though the tide had turned against her.

“When she was eliminated from the contest in third place she stormed out without waiting to congratulate the winner.”

Tragic.

UnderHerEye · 25/09/2018 12:55

Well this behaviour further highlights that this person was a narcissist arsehole not fit to be involved in politics.

hasopinionswilltravel · 25/09/2018 12:58

Diddums.

FloralBunting · 25/09/2018 12:59

Can you clicky link, I can't c&p.

hasopinionswilltravel · 25/09/2018 13:00

Well, there's one thing you can say about the kind of transwomen who are drawn to politics. They really do embody a sense of fair play and mutual respect, don't they?

Said no one, ever.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 13:01

So reading that article Cook could not satisfactorily answer questions pertaining to bankruptcy and money owed so the whole process was overturned so they could apply for selection without having to be asked any difficult questions. Presumably because difficult financial questions are transphobic.

Who the fuck else would be pandered to like this? I'm glad Cook lost and I hope it's a reality check for everyone involved.

SPOFS · 25/09/2018 13:01

Classy lassie Hmm

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 25/09/2018 13:02

Thank fuck democracy still has some functioning cogs.

Popchyk · 25/09/2018 13:02

Not surprising.

I imagine that the CLP weren't best pleased at Momentum reinstating Cook as a candidate, after the CLP had ruled Cook out in May.

Good on them for standing up to Momentum.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/09/2018 13:03

Well THAT was a waste of a place on the Jo Cox leadership programme.

LemonJello · 25/09/2018 13:05

I’m sure Sarah Brown will lend a shoulder to cry on.

hasopinionswilltravel · 25/09/2018 13:07

Can anyone point me to any UK prominent trans activist who campaigns on anything other than trans issues?

If Sophie gave a crap about Labour, he'd support the winning candidate.

BettyDuMonde · 25/09/2018 13:07

I wonder how fierce the competition is amongst those hoping to be first?

Although IF it true and TWAW they are a bit late for that.

100 years late.

TimeForDebate · 25/09/2018 13:09

Thank you for the clicky link! Not my strong point...

Riiight. So this character has some very serious questions to answer about 'borrowing' a large amount of money to 'supplement' their income, which they had no realistic way of paying back?

You know what, Cook? You sound a bit like a crook, and all the brave and stunning in the world isn't going to distract from that. I don't like male bodied individuals taking places meant for women, that's one thing. I don't like people who have significant question marks over their financial behaviour either.

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 13:16

This reminds me a little of how Aimee Challenor abruptly left The Green Party...

Popchyk · 25/09/2018 13:17

The financial shadiness as a man thing seems to be a theme in the late transitioner trying to get into politics circle.

Sue Pascoe also ran up hundreds of thousands of pounds as a man, just before identifying as woman. Pascoe hopes to become an MP for the Tories, but the most cursory of background checks will bring that to a halt.

But thank goodness the cushy media jobs just take what you say about yourself at face value, eh?

Popchyk · 25/09/2018 13:19

Sorry, should say above "hundreds of thousands of pounds of debts".

LangCleg · 25/09/2018 13:20

Perhaps Sophie could now join the Greens or the LibDems?

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 13:23

Sue Pascoe also ran up hundreds of thousands of pounds as a man, just before identifying as woman. Pascoe hopes to become an MP for the Tories, but the most cursory of background checks will bring that to a halt.

Sue Pascoe's story in her own words on the LGBT+ Conservative site:
(extract)
"My career went from strength to strength. I became partner of a very well respected accounting firm. We had a lot of money and a beautiful home. However, when my wife became pregnant with our first son, her feelings towards my identity as Sue changed. She felt that to be good parents, there wasn’t space for Sue in our lives. I needed to be seen to be male and only male.

For more than 20 years, I did my best. But in my 50s, once my children had grown up, I felt I had to explore my feminine side again. I finally told my wife I needed to seek professional help without guilt, and I needed to be honest with our children. She felt our relationship couldn’t continue and filed for divorce. Unfortunately it was very acrimonious, and included bitter disputes and the freezing of assets.

At my lowest point I was homeless, penniless, without my family and living with health problems and gender identity issues. I had lost everything. It was only then that I started living as Sue full time.

Eventually I spoke to my doctor and saved up for surgery. I went to India for my gender surgeries. The NHS could not support me without many years of waiting." (continues)

LangCleg

Do you think Sophie and Aimee are heading for the LibDems now?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 25/09/2018 13:26

While the dodgy money thing does suggest it's possible that Cook is an unprincipled chancer, that's clearly totally unrelated to the means by which they have pursued their political ambitions

thiskitten · 25/09/2018 13:26

Reminds me of my toddler who doesn't want to play anymore if he loses a game.
Oh and yup, great use of a place on the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme.
