Is anyone judicially reviewing this stuff?

Fairly recent peak trans. Lurking since then really.

Just wondering if anyone (organisations etc) are, or are considering bringing a judicial review on any of the recent goings on?

Could be wrong as I don't work in that area of law, but I think it would be a bad idea for the other side to know how much money we had to fund any such case.
That would be a really useful piece of info for the other side to have, as they would know how far we could take the case, what might make us back down etc. Cards close to chests is usually wise.

But as I say I might be missing the mark massively!

Not sure what the ideal solution is here either!

enriched

I couldn’t agree more about keeping cards close to chest. Seems we have to protect by ensuring giving little info away.

Bloody typical mumsnetters and their ability to bounce ideas of each other or willingness to support in anyway possible when cause of ‘good intent’, which brings all the riff raff to the site who don’t know how to play nicely.

If god forbid the self Id gets go ahead I can see women having to go underground and arrange secret coffee mornings.

James Caspian is hoping to take Bath Spa University to court for a judicial review. He is the one who wanted to carry out research into people who desisted, but the university blocked his proposal - he said because they were worried about negativity on social media. He is trying to raise funds. You can find out about it by googling James Caspian Free Speech Matters and then follow the link to round 2.

Interesting case but I don't think that would be a judicial review unless I am missing something.

Having received my shiny new copy of the equal treatment bench book yesterday, with the reminder that some trans people only want to be referred to as their new gender and so it would be inappropriate to call a TW a TW if they prefer 'woman', any actual judgment of issues such as this will be virtually incomprehensible.

Biologicalreality · 12/10/2018 20:21

I am going to write to the contacts on that bench book email, to suggest when it is updated they make it clear that judges should not compel witnesses to use pronouns that are in violation of their freedom of expression.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/10/2018 20:50

violation of their freedom of expression.

Or indeed violation of the truth...

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/10/2018 21:41

Wasn’t there a reply someone had from EHRC which might be useful? In terms of knowing which specific case to pick ? Personally I think girl guides ...

PenguindreamsofDraco · 13/10/2018 11:39

Have you got it too Biologicalreality? I was quite shocked by it actually.

Biologicalreality · 13/10/2018 13:30

Yes I read it when it came out, writing to them has been on my to do list for ages.

I thought I would bump this thread because I think its really important.

OhHolyJesus · 27/02/2019 20:38

I'm for a crowdfunder too - happy to donate after pay day x

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/02/2019 21:00

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 28/02/2019 11:25

I will also happily donate money to the cause.

This is a very important thread.

Agree the total in the fund would need to be confidential.

It sounds there might be some work going on to challenge the guidance being given to schools. I really hope so. From twitter:
"Work going on to challenge schools, LEA's and Safeguarding Boards on their toolkits for schools. Please message me for more info."

My understanding is that the Corporation of London have yet to make a decision based on their very dodgy consultation around the Hampstead Ponds. However if they do come to the "wrong" conclusion I think it might be really useful to challenge.

  1. Because the people within the Corporation who seem to be pushing the trans agenda seem, inevitably, to be really well connected across Parliament, the City etc.
  1. There are three ponds, men women and mixed, so keeping womens, womens only is not depriving anyone of anything, other than affirmation for a small minority. Plus I assume that, if it is anything like the Serpentine, changing facilities are basic/communal.
  1. The people using the ponds are pretty ordinary. Just people who like to swim outside, like people have done for centuries. To take away this pleasure for the sake of affirmation of a minority seems very mean.

I am not a lawyer, but if anyone is interested and it would be the sort of decision that could be reviewed, it might be worth tracking to ensure that a request for a review is ready to roll. I would be happy to contribute to the cost of some initial work. (Could LAWS provide some organisational framework like a bank account?)

clitherow · 28/02/2019 13:06

I absolutely would support this initiative in any way possible. I am convinced that the only way to beat this is to get organised on as many fronts as possible. This is one of the most positive things I've read in ages.
