Sorry if there is already a thread about this twitter hashtag which seems to have developed in response to the billboard.

There’s someone arguing the definition includes those who were ‘wrongly’ assigned male at birth using the Wikipedia definition of woman as supporting evidence.

Loads of posts saying I was born male but grew to be a woman. I am an #adulthumanfemale

(There’s one great post from a trans man who says accepting their brith sex was key to accepting themselves as trans.)

It’s just baffling. Open and brazen re-writing of language to mean something else.it doesn’t make any sense. X means this (oh and also this, even though it doesn’t fit at all with that first bit of the definition.)

I feel really riled up. I don’t fit their definition of woman. If people born male at birth can also be a woman then women don’t exist. Erasure. Trans women are trans women. I support their right to be and exist and be treated fairly. Women are women.

I am a woman. I have a vagina, I menstruated, I writhed in physical and emotional agony when I miscarried my second baby, I carried two children and bore them, my breasts made milk to feed them, I get treated differently to men because of my physical sex. Not all women experience those things but those things can only be experienced by a woman. They are key to my experience of being a woman.

Can't we just drop the 'identify as' and call it what it is 'pretend to be'?

That’s exactly it, isn’t it?! I don’t identify as a woman because I just am one.

I think Fionne comes across as very nice and funny. I hope he's real!

Same here. Do you think Fionne might not b real? Like pretending to be trans?

He's certainly been accused of that, from what I can see - people incredulous he doesn't call himself a woman and accusing him of, effectively, letting the side down. They were really incapable of detaching gendered clothing from physical sex.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 12:47

Doesn't really matter now words mean nothing. If boys and men can be both women and female then you and I can be transwomen. It's just a question of what you identify as.

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 13:05

Fionne is definitely real!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 13:14

I'm just suspicious of anyone on twitter. He could be a big hairy Russian or a bot for all I know. I don't think Dr Baby is real either.

pancaketosser · 25/09/2018 13:14

Even if Fionne isn't 'real trans', then how do the TRAs square that? Whatever they want to say Fionne is if not trans, it will come under the Stonewall trans brolly, because Fionne is gender non-conforming (ignoring the elephant in the room that most of the population are Stonwall trans) and the whole point of the brolly is to include everyone.

Therefore, TRAs accusing Fionne of being fake-trans are being transphobic and gatekeeping, by their own definitions, which as we all know is a very bad thing.

SunsetBeetch · 25/09/2018 13:20

Our Fionne is definitely real!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 13:25

I'm glad. His posts are nice - so is maninpink (he's getting a hard time just now though)

LangCleg · 25/09/2018 13:27

Fionne is real, very nice, does not use women's spaces, and, unlike every transactivist on the planet, is prepared to put the needs of women above his own wants where it is appropriate. The solidarity Fionne receives from women because of this drives the extremists mad.

SunsetBeetch · 25/09/2018 16:57

Fionne is also extremely funny.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:32

I'm glad he is genuine. He comes across as quite sweet but smart, and nobody's fool.

TerfedOff · 26/09/2018 09:21

Fionne is lovely and definitely real.

He was at the Woman's Place meeting in Todmorden in a fabulous dress looking all aethereal and just like he does on Twitter.

I think this is stupid as hell, you say if people born male can be classified as women then women dont exist, then what about people born female that are classified as men, does that mean men don't exist. I think heteronormative adults are just getting butt hurt because this wasn't a part of their lives growing up. I've grown up with a close friend born female who is going through the transitions to becoming medically recognised as male. My mother once also lodged a person born male who's transitioned into female when they were kicked out of their house for being trans. These people wish they could experience childbirth, the pain of a heavy period, the flow of life from breast feeding a child, some women born female don't even wish to experience any of these things. How is it your right to dictate how you believe trans people should be viewed by society when you have no experience with these feelings or no perspective as to how it might feel to be trans. There is tons of medical research out there about trans being a real medical condition. If people would stop, immerse themselves in the culture, put themselves into people's shoes and educate themselves on what trans really means for these people, this world would be a lot more of a loving and accepting place. Anyone who says anything like "this is done for attention" must really have a sad pathetic outlook on human beings as a whole. Get educated before making dumb egotistical assumptions. This world is for everyone not just for you and your white hetero asses.

UpstartCrow · 03/10/2018 11:02

Thats an ironic post. You assume everyone here is white or heterosexual, based on your own prejudice.
Its ridiculous to pretend that biological sex doesn't exist, and abusive to use it to tell women to just be nice and move over.

No one thinks gender dysphoria doesn't exist; what we do think is that womens rights shouldn't be eradicated because of it. Most women here support the third space option.

LemonJello · 03/10/2018 11:07

There is tons of medical research out there about trans being a real medical condition.

No one here is arguing that gender dysphoria isn’t a real medical condition Confused

What we are stating very clearly, is that the definition of ‘woman’ does not include ‘man with a medical condition’.

HTH

Not white or hetero! What do I win?

RedDogsBeg · 03/10/2018 11:17

These people wish they could experience childbirth, the pain of a heavy period, the flow of life from breast feeding a child, some women born female don't even wish to experience any of these things.

Anyone who says or even thinks the above has absolutely no clue about what being a woman is or entails, this statement alone proves that they are NOT women and their 'feelings' that they are are totally false.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/10/2018 11:20

I think this is stupid as hell, you say if people born male can be classified as women then women dont exist, then what about people born female that are classified as men, does that mean men don't exist. If I unpacked that correctly - nobody here is claiming that transmen and women do not exist. Some of the posters here ARE transmen and women

I think heteronormative adults are just getting butt hurt because this wasn't a part of their lives growing up. I love that phrase, so sexually, homophobically aggressive!

I've grown up with a close friend born female who is going through the transitions to becoming medically recognised as male. My mother once also lodged a person born male who's transitioned into female when they were kicked out of their house for being trans. See previous comments about some of the posters here. And do you really think nobody here has trans friends, colleagues, family members?

These people wish they could experience childbirth, the pain of a heavy period, the flow of life from breast feeding a child, some women born female don't even wish to experience any of these things. Oh we know only too well what some of those people will do to make their own 'period'!

How is it your right to dictate how you believe trans people should be viewed by society when you have no experience with these feelings or no perspective as to how it might feel to be trans. And you see no merit in women saying the same thing? Why must we be forced to change how we are viewed, how we are referred to, etc?

There is tons of medical research out there about trans being a real medical condition. Again, nobody has said otherwise! Lots of links on many threads! Lots of trans posters!

If people would stop, immerse themselves in the culture, put themselves into people's shoes and educate themselves on what trans really means for these people, this world would be a lot more of a loving and accepting place. Again, can you not see that women are asking the same question... well, maybe without the immersive culture bit, as that is part f the problem!

Anyone who says anything like "this is done for attention" must really have a sad pathetic outlook on human beings as a whole. Or has been the victim of a public shaming or accidentally calling a bloke with a beard and skirt 'sir'

Get educated before making dumb egotistical assumptions. This world is for everyone not just for you and your white hetero asses. Mmm! Does that mean it IS only for the BME gender queer?

FloralBunting · 03/10/2018 11:20

I'm not hetero, but I took this selfie this morning, so it's true, I am a white ass Grin
