BBC uses 'cisgender' without quote or qualification

With apologies to MNHQ but I can't make my point I don't use a particular banned word.
The motion, which proposed treating all trans women the same as cisgender women, passed unanimously on Wednesday

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-45589563

This is abusive, misogynistic and a wholesale adoption of transactivist terms and language.

Cisgender is a transactivist term that traps women within assumptions that we accept the stereotypes that are inflicted on us.

The BBC is expressing the deepest sexism here. This term should be pulled out, with a promise never to use it again. And the reporter needs a good talking to.

Yes I’ve phoned them a few times and I’ve had a much faster response. And the person on the phone has always been very helpful.

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 08:37

That's so helpful gulag. Is the phone number linked?

Reallybad: you'd think an actual journalist would have asked that question. Sadly we are talking about the BBC.

Is there a women's flag?

How often is it flown?

IrmaFayLear · 21/09/2018 08:39

Having some experience of councils, I know that if a particular group has an agenda and is (or can sway) the majority, then something can be steamrollered through without question.

In Parliament every piece of legislation is scrutinised and often brought to public attention. With councils there is little interest in or publicity about what they are doing. Few people read local papers now, and policies and decisions are made by a few who put themselves up for election (by a tiny number of voters) for the many, frequently spending vast sums on ridiculous/unpopular/politicised schemes.

Complained. Takes 5 mins to go through the form, easy.

StealthPolarBear · 21/09/2018 08:42

I think they're currently using it as a dishcloth

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 08:53

Look at this BBC. Women think you use their complaints as dishcloths. Maybe we'll take our own complaint to Ofcom about the imbalance during this whole consultation period.

Needmoresleep · 21/09/2018 08:56

No! trans-flags surely. It does resemble one.

LangCleg · 21/09/2018 09:00

Complaining AGAIN.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/09/2018 09:02

I might ask why they're coercively assigning a gender to me, and out special snowflake the snowflakes Grin.

daughterofanarchy · 21/09/2018 09:08

The Liverpool council’s need to trample over women is quite depressing.

PositivelyPERF · 21/09/2018 09:12

All this bullying crap is making me so angry and resentful of men, as a group, and I used to be a woman that loved mixed sex company. I find I’m looking more and more towards women’s (actual real women) groups.

Kyanite · 21/09/2018 09:14

They refer to what the motion says and they've given a glossary of terms so people can understand the new language being spoken (I'm trying to be polite), rather than actually adopting that language them themselves.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/09/2018 09:19

That Liverpool man just looks like the classic lefty bully boy to me. Puffed up with his own supposed virtue, yet aggressively shutting down debate.
Will complain to the beeb, but they have large numbers of trans identifying staff I think ? It must colour their view. I feel sorry for any GC women working for the BBC.

MsMcWoodle · 21/09/2018 09:21

I will complain - but they still haven't answered my complaint of a couple of months ago.
I think it is time to take my licence fee off direct debit and drag out payments.
This will cost them money to pursue.
I've always been a big supporter of the BBC - thinking that not allowing advertising meant they could be impartial.
Not happy with paying them to be Pink News.

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 09:38

No kyanite - they have used the language of the transactivist in the text without qualification.

The glossary of terms is entirely transactivist but written as if they are real objective descriptive terms when they are in fact highly controversial and abusive.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/09/2018 09:43

I've complained but I used the form. Wish I had read the thread and seen that phone complaints were better. But I read the OP and the first few posts - and I saw red.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/09/2018 09:46

Have complained.

GulagMilkMonitor · 21/09/2018 09:50

What would be the women’s flag?
Can I volunteer my vagina 2 weeks post labour for the design?

deepwatersolo · 21/09/2018 09:53

The motion, which proposed treating all trans women the same as cisgender women, passed unanimously on Wednesday.

I very much doubt there were ever any rules on the book for how to treat cisgender women, so the motion is obviously somewhat nonsensical.

There is a great thread on this here:

Virtue Signalling, Misogyny, Abuse & Revenge

Liverpool City Council tonight adopted "Standing With Our Trans Community"

The motion & mayor were, I believe, unfair, abusive,in breach of Equality Act 2010 & neglectful of their proper duties. 1/15

I've sent a long email of complaint, pointing out among other things that no one is assigned a sex at birth in some random way and that's irresponsible of them to promote this faulty thinking.

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 10:04

Assigned at birth needs to be chucked in the bin. The BBC should not be adopting wholesale the language of transactivism. Imagine if the BBC required its journalists to insert (PBUH) after every mention of the prophet Muhammed. It's the same thing.
