Question Time panel BBC (13/09) Prisons Minister and Julia HB

Today, the Speaker refused to allow time for Parliament to discuss the policy that allowed a serial rapist to be placed in a woman's prison, with tragic and preventable consequences.

Tonight, on Question Time, the Prison Minister, Rory Stewart, (MP Con Penrith & the Border) faces the nation instead.

Also on the panel, the Talk Radio host Julia Hartley Brewer, Chris Leslie (MP Labour Nottingham East) Theo Paphitis (Dragons Den) and Faiza Shaheen (prospective parliamentary candidate for key marginal Chingford and director of Centre for Labour and Social Studies, Class)

Might be interesting......

Thanks OtherPam. As you say, should be interesting.

Cwenthryth · 12/09/2018 19:35

JHB and the prisons minister. That’s some cracking booking there!

NameChangedAgain18 · 12/09/2018 19:40

I think it’s on tomorrow, no? But is the BBC really going to allow questions on this topic?

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 19:44

Ooh that's a line up!

TheCumbrian · 12/09/2018 19:51

I suspect Rory Stewart is not going to come across well. He looks very anxious and wibbly even at friendly community events.

Very intelligent and experienced bloke (ex army?) but vocally gives Jacob RM a run for his money In terms of 'posh accents'.

Sat in a very safe seat so not had to do huge amount to win voters over so far...

Cwenthryth · 12/09/2018 20:18

Yeah tomorrow night Namechange

SPOFS · 12/09/2018 20:19

I think the audience's reaction will be very interesting. I can't see many supporting this.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 12/09/2018 20:21

But do we know that there is going to be a question??

2rebecca · 12/09/2018 22:47

It's tomorrow night not tonight

StormyDaniels · 12/09/2018 22:50

Yes Rory Stewart is in the Nick Clegg camp of looking like he either just has or is about to cry. (NB not a criticism, men should definitely cry more! It's very cathartic. Just an observation.)

NameChangedAgain18 · 12/09/2018 23:28

I've just remembered this is going to be taking place in my local town. It's not exactly a hotbed of radical feminism (or of transactivism for that matter). I can imagine what the questions will be about - Brexit, the proposed closure of the local hospital, a bit of immigrant-bashing . . . I'll be quite surprised if there is a question on the prisons issue.

theOtherPamAyres · 13/09/2018 03:09

Apologies for the wrong day. It's on tonight, Thursday, 13th and probably on the BBC I-player after that.

Perhaps you could ask MNHQ to amend the date in the title? I think this is essential viewing, thanks for alerting us to it.

Cwenthryth · 13/09/2018 07:22

Is it broadcast live?

arranfan · 13/09/2018 15:52

So many issues that should be raised.

Karen White.

The TES article about sexual violence in schools.

I won't hold my breath but I'd be utterly delighted to be very wrong.

speakingwoman · 13/09/2018 17:44

I reported the thread and asked for the title to be amended.

DawnMumsnet · 13/09/2018 17:56

@speakingwoman

I reported the thread and asked for the title to be amended.

Hi, we've edited the title now, as requested.

At least JHB won't just trot out a party line and will give her own opinions on stuff. I like her on talk radio although I often disagree with her. Less impressed with the Talk Radio Blokes.
I do seem to have moved generally to the right since the GRA stuff kicked off earlier this year, maybe because people on the right seemed to be the only ones prepared to think about the issue and not just quote mantras and award points to who had the biggest sob story and was threatening to jump off the bridge first.
Really dislike John McDonnell and Owen Jones and the Momentum woke blokes too.

placemats · 13/09/2018 19:11

I'm just hoping I can keep awake.

I like Julia.

I'm a socialist at heart and feel I've now been cast adrift.

I really should change my name to mid north Atlantic.

groundcontroltomontydon · 13/09/2018 19:48

I'd like someone to ask how the government's complicity in denying biological women the language we need to identify and challenge the discrimination we suffer because of our biology is compatible with its obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which defines discrimination against women as 'any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field'. Just saying like.

stillathing · 13/09/2018 19:50

Yes to ground's question. It is perfect.

RedToothBrush · 13/09/2018 20:02

Oh this does look interesting. Hope it lives up to expectation.

scottishbride · 13/09/2018 21:10

Just set the sky box to record!

DJLippy · 13/09/2018 22:27

They won't ask a question. It's the BBS people. If they do I'll eat my keyboard.

Cwenthryth · 13/09/2018 22:48

Sadly think you’re right DJ.

Right here we go. Rory Stewart does look nervous.
