Attack on Fair Play for Women in the Indie

I'm non-binary and I was approached by an anti-trans campaigner on the street. This is what I learnt.

There are too many highlights (sarcasm) to mention. Lies too. The comment section is a bit of a treasure trove too.

The Independent was the only national not to apologize for wrongly claiming last November that FPFW lied about the number of transwomen in prison for sex offences.

Any chance the Independent is trying for another bite at the cherry? Surely not.

Thanks R0wan. I might contact the NUJ in that case. It's not honestly conveyed, accurate or fair.

In fact it's deliberately obtuse.

Nic Williams got them to print a disclaimer on that stupid Owl piece that Owl's claims were under legal dispute.

I actually wrote to the independent 2 weeks ago about the fact that they did not update their article which claimed FPFW were lying and which was later proven to be true by an FOI and was widely reported in other media. This is what they got back to me with

Its been months since the FOI was released, its pretty poor journalism to not even add a postscript to the article or print a retraction in that amount of time.

Also re IPSO judgement (complaint not upheld) which was about the Times article quoting FP4W statistics:

Andrew Gilligan comment, Zoe O'Connell (LibDem councillor) also made "equally stupid" IPSO complaint against him (reference also to the dismissed complaint made by O'Connell about David Davies hosting the 'We Need to Talk' Westminster meeting)

What strikes me about this piece is that the author values the importance of a 'safe trans space' to discuss matters important to them.

This is all WPUK and FairPlay for women want to discuss and protect for women.

I was just reading an article by Jane Fae written at the time of Tara Hudson's imprisonment and was struck by a similar sense of irony.

"But the guidelines go on: where there is no GRC, there are many factors to take into account. Identity. Steps taken. Risk to the prisoner. To other prisoners. All of which are meant to be addressed before the guilty party arrives at prison.

speaking of Tara, "In the general [male] prison population she is at immediate risk of assault, of rape"

So if we consider the four women who have been assaulted by a male, placed in female estate. Someone who has a 20 year offending history of violent sexual assaults against women and children. This could be re-written to centre them, the vulnerable female prisoners.

Except those speaking up for women in female estate are smeared by TELI and have little access to the media in comparison with Jane Fae.

Oh I miss Sue Townsend.

Years back I wrote to the editor of The Independent telling him that an article of apparent truth written by one of his journalists was an urban myth. I wrote that if this kind of stuff was going to appear and go uncorrected that I wouldn't read the paper. His reply was that he didn't much care.

I couldn’t help it. I commented a few times. Especially with one person who was incredulous that someone would trust the bbc (who fact checked the FPFW study) over Yaz who apparently has a hotline to the MOJ.
